selsta: hey man long time no talk. Is there any big update planned for the monero GUI
-
selsta
hi, we will add macOS ARM binaries with the next release
-
selsta
otherwise no
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: Nice, so the GUI will now be natively working on M1 without needing to do anything ?
-
selsta
yep
-
not_thankful_for
That's amazing
-
selsta
i had to add a workaround so that daemon performance won't be as good as it could be
-
not_thankful_for
Is there massive improvements in speed? im currently using the intel version on macos
-
not_thankful_for
s/macos/m1/
-
selsta
i didn't do any benchmarks
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: alright. Btw wanted to ask you this for a while. So say I received 10 xmr from Exchange A, send those 10 xmr to another account on the GUI, and send it back to Exchange A under the new account. Is that enough to prevent the EAE attack?
-
not_thankful_for
Or do I need to send it to myself many more times?
-
selsta
I'm not the best to ask these specific questions
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: but in your opinion what do you think?
-
selsta
as far as i know sending to yourself once is not enough in this specific scenario
-
selsta
but you should ask someone who is more familiar with the attack
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: would sending it to myself 5 times be enough ? (across different accounts) in your opinion
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: i know, but i trust your judgment as well :P
-
selsta
and there is no binary enough / not enough, it's all about probabilities and who you are trying to protect yourself from
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: protect myself from chain analysis
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: can you instead give me how many times i should send it to myself to "reasonably" protect myself from chain analysis ? i trust your judgment
-
selsta
if you send to yourself 5 different times and wait a random amount of time in between each time sending (don't send yourself 5 times in 2 hour, wait for example 12h to one day between each) then yes you should be protected against this attack based on this comment

selsta: thanks 💯 !!!

not_thankful_for
Does it matter if I send it to different accounts, or can I keep sending it to the same account ? selsta
-
selsta
it depends, do you send your whole balance?
-
selsta
churning each output separately is the most private way but the GUI currently doesn't support this
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: Yes, or just the amount that I want to mix
-
not_thankful_for
Well im using the GUI, so usually i'll just send a bit of the amount I want to mix or the whole balance
-
selsta
I would send it to a different account the first time and then you can just churn inside that other account
-
selsta
but keep in mind i might be giving you bad advice lol
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: ok, so Account 1 (that received from exchange) sends funds to account 2, 3, 4, 5, and then back to account 2 (taking 12 hours to do so), and then i should be good?

selsta
once you have it from account #1 in account #2 you can just send it to yourself in account #2 without needing 3, 4, 5
-
not_thankful_for
selsta: Oh really
-
not_thankful_for
so i could just keep sending it to account #2 over and over again ?
-
not_thankful_for
Thats a lot easier
-
not_thankful_for
* it to myself on account #2
