m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> It shows and I am log in . I just do not know why do not ask where on which disc to download the node ?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I have a partition of the disc to designeted for that which I have been preapering long time to make a space .
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> However after I have chosen advance and restore wallet and I am log in I do not have a glue what the app is doing now. It does not ask me where to download the 250GB node ?
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> Settings -> Node -> Blockchain location
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Thank you . Yes it is possible to change location over there .Unfortunately I have some problem with access to the partition of the disc. It will take me a while to find out why I can not access it . I think it is encrypted .
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> So what the app is doing now and how much space I need for it ? :
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> It appears to be synchronizing to the location you selected
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Yes but I do not think it is a location I want because I got this massage :
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> how much space does the blockchain location actually have available? `df -h /path/to/ldmb/folder`
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Thank you for asking : you know I have prepared 500GB partition for that but maybe it is encrypted by my friend who help me with computer installations . I say that because of this massage above and also when I have chosen the disc I have seen a lock on the disc :
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> How much space it needs for the advance mode ? It says above in this warning it requires 55GB for a block chain .Is it right ?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Actually I have been thinking I need 250GB for a node so now I am confused what actually now I am downloading ?
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> the warning hasn't been updated in a while
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> and if the application do synchronizing then I guess there is enough space in the destination location on my computer , right ?
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> i'm not sure if GUI prunes the blockchain by default, but either way it's higher than 55G
-
m-relay
<tobtoht:monero.social> if it's progressing then everything should be in order. if in doubt, try restarting the GUI and check if starts where it left off.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It does
-
moneromooo
I think the pruned one is something like 90 GB.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Around 95gb
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> It must be right then that it is about 90GB as I think someone here or I red somewhere mentioned 80GB.
-
moneromooo
Ah, inflation...
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> So after the advance mode is chosen it will download a prune version ? I have been thinking to download the full version as it is suggested here :
getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/pruning.html
-
moneromooo
To get a pruned version for sure, you can stop monerod (stopping the GUI ought to either stop it or ask you about it), then run monerod once with --prune-blockchain (IIRC), then exit monerod. Then you can run the GUI again, your chain will be pruned and stay that way.
-
moneromooo
If you put your chain in the non standard place, you will have to use --data-dir with monerod to match, of course.
-
moneromooo
It is much better to prune from the get go rather than once the chain is fullu downloaded, because I never optimized the "prune a fully up to date chain" case.
-
moneromooo
(it does work, it is just very slow)
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Is it not better to have full version 250GB of block chain downloaded instead of pruned one ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Depends on your use case
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Its not necessary for day-to-day users. You still provide 1/8th of the blockchain to peers, so its not centralizing like btc prunes.(more like a torrent)
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> For now I will be an occasional user . This is my step by step approach to know more about Monero and how to use it and slowly to purchase hopefully as much as I can with it and replace any electronic visa card transactions .
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> So according to what you say in my case it is enough to have prune version . I see. I will go for it then .
-
ofrnxmr
yes, a pruned node is good🙏
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Thank you for confirmation .
