m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> It has been downloading the node to my computer half a day yesterday and during a night I left computer online to continue the download. Unfortunately in the morning as it is hard to wake up a computer screen back to live for some reason I pressed the on/off button of my computer for too long and I switch it off accidentally . So I do not know if the node has been downloaded or n<clipped message>
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> ot . Anyway it is not connecting to node .I have this in a log :
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> [3/5/25 7:31 AM] 2025-03-05 06:31:05.565 I Monero 'Fluorine Fermi' (v0.18.3.4-unknown)
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Error: Couldn't connect to daemon: 127.0.0.1:18081
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> What should I do now ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> How large is the file?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> It is empty . I do not have a glue what have happened.
-
moneromooo
Sticky situation...
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> Bazinga
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> No other choice .I am going to start back again from the scratch with some modifications on my disc location.
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> To be albe to download the nod back again do I need to reset first ? :
-
moneromooo
I think you should do this first:
-
moneromooo
If using monero-wallet-gui, find where you can add monerod options, it's in there somewhere, maybe options ?
-
moneromooo
Then add: --log-level 1
-
moneromooo
If using monero-wallet-cli, you're using monerod manually, so add --log-level 1 to the monerod command line.
-
moneromooo
Then you should see more interesting stuff at the end of the log file.
-
moneromooo
If it says something like "corrupted", you'd have to delete the chain and let it get it again.
-
moneromooo
But it might say something else.

m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I have Monero Gui Wallet . I can see the logs and when I change to log 1 nothing is changing . The log actually starts at 07:30 when I accidently restart computer. I think all is lost .I need to start from the scrach.
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> How to do that ? How to delete the chain you talk about ?

<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> How can I switch a wallet created in simple mode to advance mode?
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Ok I found it
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> I was thinking about integrating two different wallet modes
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Do not present any simple mode or advance mode at creation
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> But instead put mining/siging stuff into a folder called advance
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> And allow user to switch between remote node or a local full node at the bottom left corner
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> And create something like tips to encourage users to try (solo) mining and run their own full local node
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Because currently switching between simple mode and advance mode is quite complex, you have to log out again and switch and login in.
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> If newbie use simple mode first it is very unlikely he will use advance functions later
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> I was thinking about unifying two different wallet modes
-
moneromooo
Assuming UNIX like, the chain defaults to $HOME/.bitmonero
-
moneromooo
The log will be in this directory too (bitmonero.log).
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Theres a setting to switch mode
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Yeah I know you can switch, what I mean is that switching function is way too hidden to be found. It is supposed to be a easy to find button you can see in the main menu.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Youre not really supposed to switch between advanced and simple mode. You can easily use a remote node ysinf advanced mode
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Ok that makes sense, but at least there should be some design on the UI to encourage user to try advance mode after they used simple mode
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Like a guide wizard to get a local full node + p2p mining running
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Should just remove simple mode imho.
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> So probably remove simple mode, and add like a explanation to each function in the main menu?
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> God please

m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I have done reset of the download block chain and I can see system starts download a new block chain back again.
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> My question is what is a default location for the file ? How to find it when the name of the location s not shown ? :
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> What is written in bottom left corner of gui
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You're on linux?
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Where the block sync status get displayed
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> the default location for monerod is `~/.bitmonero`. I think GUI is the same
-
m-relay
<not_a_money_printer:matrix.org> Ideally have a menu there to allow choosing between remote node or a local node
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Are you ninoni ?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Yes I am on Linux. Let me try to find location you mention.
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Yes I have found it . bitmonero/Imdb which has 67GB right now .
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Do you know if I have interrupted the block chain download and start back again it will over write the existing files ?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Do you know if Gui does a check before it start to download block chain if there is enough space in the default location ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It should continue where it left off. Bottom left of gui should show progress
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Youre about 25gb from completion
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I dont know if gui checks firsy
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I hope it is able to continue where it left off. Probably so as the location folder is getting more GB .It is 75GB now.The problem is I have on this partition of the disc 45GB more left.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 20 more gb to go
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> image.png
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I hope so ... but I do not know because the beginning of orange line it was 67GB and now is 77GB and you can see how much more is there to go . For now looks like it is 1/5 of download done . For now it looks like about 40GB more to download .
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 1/5th of remaining
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Also, when you first started the sync.. there was a checkbox for pruning. It was checked by default
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Did you uncheck it?
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I do not remember that already .Can I check it somewhere ?
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> In info I can see this information only :
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The easiest way to make sure... settings>node>"Daemon startup flags">input `--prune-blockchain`
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Then stop the daemon and start it again
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> The box is empty :
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> You mean it is not a pruned version and I should start it back again ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> No
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I mean, fill in the box as above, then press the button to stop daemon, then press button to start daemon
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If its already pruned, nothing will change. If its not already pruned, it will prune it from now on
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> This is the command I should use right ? : >input --prune-blockchain
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I think something is maybe not correct : the line here covers 15GB of download . On the beggining of this line it was 67GB and now it 82GB and this not yet 1/4 of the remaining download. If so it is about 45GB more to download.
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> Now it is downloaded 20GB and it is 1/4 of the remaining download. In this case when finished it will be 80GB + 67GB =147GB. So I do not have a choice . I think the best it is to stop. Delete all and start back again from the beginning .
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> To not make any harm to the destination folder what I supposed to delete ? Is it enough to delete Imdb folder which is the one collecting data ? :
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> No
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> `--prune-blockchain` is what you put in the box
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I try that .
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ^
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> What did you put in the box 🙃
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I have place all of this : --prune-blockchain is what you put in the box and then later I deleted what should not be there. I think I am tired already of all of this download. It is another second day and I can not complete this task.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> deleted what??
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 1. Input `--prune-blockchain` into the `daemon startup flags` box
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 2. Press the button that says `Stop daemon`
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 3. Press the button that says `Start daemon`
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> place whole line there the command + this "is what you put in the box" without looking . And later I deleted the "is "what you put in the box" - Sorry I am tired of that I think .
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Type it manually
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> --prune-blockchain
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<ninoni:matrix.org> I have done it . I have seen : it is connecting to network and then disconected :
