I'm not sure about the magnitude of the overall efficiency of the energy conversion from the chemical fuel to usable electricity, but given the rising costs of fuel lately I'd be inclined to say it would not be profitable at all...

So unless you have an electric/hybrid car that you can recharge at a lower $/kWh rate than you would pay at home, you would be literally burning money to do it

right, the CPU itself won't account for more than a couple watts. the stereo amp at 50-100W per channel will eat more

(Not to mention the decrease in responsiveness when using other features of those devices)

I suspect the difference will be unmeasurable

it's an 8-core chip, prob not enough cache for more than 1 or 2 threads. responsive ness with the other 6 cores will be fine

Well, on WAN, multicast is really a fig leaf for duplicate it all, isn't it ?

for a submarine that doesn't want to give away its existence, yeah, it'd be a straight broadcast

otherwise, clients explicitly join multicast groups, which means they tell their routers what they're interested in, and propagation is selective

of course none of this is useful if you can't ask for transmissions that you missed while offline

I suppose there could be transmitters that specialize on AM broadcasting for the last 6 months worth of blocks in a loop...

So if you're deep for < 6 months, you can always sync back. Though tbh, a boomer doesn't care :) Low enough bandwidth with the trailing cable.
