do you guys think zcash will hardfork the massive transactions out of the chain or is that not possible bcs shielded?
-
CidadoisAncap[m]
Do you guys think monero is vulnerable to the same attack?
-
monerobull[m]
not anywhere near to this extent
-
monerobull[m]
there was a flood last yera
-
monerobull[m]
-
monerobull[m]
which lead to the recent fee changes

monerobull: Probably not, but one of their wallet's new antispam features now doesn't scan shielded tx with more than 20 outputs:

Monero was potentially subject to a Big Bang attack 4 years ago. It was fixed:

monerobull[m]
300 GB a day could have killed the chain, holy moly
-
ajs_[m]
monerobull: not sure how they could possibly fork now since the attack has been going on since June
-
monerobull[m]
well, if the shielding werent a problem, cant they pull an ETH and kick the bad transactions out while keeping the regular ones?
-
monerobull[m]
tbh i havent really looked into how exactly The DAO was reversed
-
hyc
rewind their chain all the way back to June?
-
monerobull[m]
how far did ETH rewind?
-
hyc
was only a couple days before they decided, iirc
-
monerobull[m]
hm ok, i always assumed they kinda took the blockchain, cut out the whole dao thing and kept it going lmao
-
hyc
undoing 5 months worth of transactions .... if the chain had any users, they'd be screaming bloody murder
-
hyc
at any rate, zcash is basically irrelevant. nobody on darkweb uses it, and they're the people who care the most, have the most to lose
-
hyc
if you can't prove your usecase there, you have none.
-
monerobull[m]
blocks would have to be re-mined to keep existing normal transactions, right
-
hyc
yes
-
hyc
tho they could rewind *and* switch to PoS, then they don't need the miners to cooperate
-
monerobull[m]
i just hope their little internal struggle doesnt lead to unnecessary bloat on monero from people who have no idea whats going on
-
hyc
bloat on monero? how?
-
monerobull[m]
hyc: yeah, thought this too. they could be already running a private beacon chain that ignores the bloat transactions
-
monerobull[m]
hyc: burning money on spam transactions? i know it cant get nearly as bad as with them but we can still gain a couple mb that wouldnt be there otherwise
-
hyc
and that's why the base fee was raised 5x in the last upgrade
-
monerobull[m]
i know
-
monerobull[m]
<Rucknium[m]> "monerobull: Probably not, but..." <- what would this even do, just make it faster for light-wallet users?
-
hyc
dunno who's behind the zec attack, but IMO govts aren't going to attack monero. they see its usefulness as a tool, they'll support it just like they support tor.
-
monerobull[m]
the chain is still massive
-
monerobull[m]
its very likely some disgruntled ZEC dev or investor
-
hyc
yeah, probably
-
monerobull[m]
i remember when they first started spamming transactions, they went to vanity-burn-wallets calling zooko a fraudster, asking for specific devs to be paid more, etc
-
monerobull[m]
looks like they have refined their methods and now bloat more effectively
-
hyc
all well-deserved criticisms I'm sure
-
hyc
but also futile - why would they have ever expected such a shadily launched project to be better than that?
-
monerobull[m]
idk, brainwashed? why would anyone want to get into zec
