br-m<17lifers:mikuplushfarm.ovh> why do people use 8.8.8.8 dns
-
br-m<17lifers:mikuplushfarm.ovh> use 1.1.1.1 its the fastest ever
-
br-m<17lifers:mikuplushfarm.ovh> ._.
-
DataHoarderuntil it breaks :D
-
DataHoarder> fastest
-
DataHoarder8.8.8.8 answer latency 0.8ms
-
DataHoarder1.1.1.1 answer latency 2ms
-
DataHoarderI used to have 0.5ms latency to 8.8.8.8 (and other google services)
-
connorbey13local recursive resolver for the win. I am using knot resolver which is the same one Cloudflare is using for 1.1.1.1
-
DataHoarderyeah, recursive resolver wins ofc
-
DataHoarderit's a bit slow but still 0.21 ms here :)
-
connorbey13That'll do :D
-
bazI'm going to hang out over in this corner, with a tad bit higher latency, for the peace of mind that my queries aren't at risk of posining and snooping by Cloudflare or Google.
-
connorbey13That's how I feel. Shouldn't the cached results from a local resolver be faster than any DNS provider? It's just the first root lookup that'll take longer.
-
bazI'm over here on Qubes, so I guess are tinfoilhats dont size up
-
DataHoarderbaz: local resolver doesn't get the snooping, but hit origin DNS servers :D
-
connorbey13I'm into privacy but feel at a bit of loss with CPU blobs and possible backdoors in the Linux kernel. I do what I can.
-
DataHoarderwhich might still be CF or google servers, sure
-
connorbey13Right
-
bazDataHoarder: yeah, local unbound dnscrypt etc
-
DataHoarderxmrpool.eu asked for a silly blocks.p2pool.observer/block/da8761…b38f00e148da2179f2f8286dd86cf110b60
-
DataHoarderthey provided ways to verify the coinbase outputs, but asked to not disclose view keys (sure can generate InProof) but also not the public address (this is needed to verify the proof) :D
-
DataHoarderasked them to clarify but best I can do is show "hey I verified it but ... I can't give the proof"
-
DataHoardergood on them though
-
DataHoarderAlso found monero-project/research-lab #130 > I'm not fully mapping this out as this is a quirk and a rabbit hole, but there's no known real-world use.
-
DataHoarderThe only real-world use I see is mining rental scams remaking one of these proofs to a random address, to appear it's theirs
