<hardenedsteel:monero.social> shall we remove monero-ecosystem?
monero-project/monero-site #2415
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Not yet
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> or not at all
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> should migrate the whole org to librejo
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Theres a lot of stuff there
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> we will only remove the github organization page, but relevant repos will stay
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> As much as i dont like the premise of centralizing community projects there, even monero-outreach docs are archived there
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> We should migrate the monwro-ecosystem git to librejo.monerodevs.org (soon librejo.getmonero.org?)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Its in "archived" mode because erc owns it
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Not for any other reason
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> monero-python repo isn't maintained over 2 years, does it still work? if not are there fork? because i couldn't find
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> >Community of Monero developers. Contains libraries and resources and guides of some Monero Workgroups, like the Localization Workgroup and the Outreach Workgroup.
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> all of these are dead
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> vthor doesnt have a high opinion on monero-python i think.
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> imo its a glorified wrapper for monero-wallet-rpc calls
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> plowsof is biased, he doesnt want ppl to know that he contributed to it /s
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> it does roll some of its own crypto though. three is python code to scan for outputs belonging an address/view key, which has been useful for some projects
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> btw, how about creating a new monero-translation room when we find a solution?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Why would you need a new room
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> there is a translation room
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> on what HS
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> And the solution is likely new website + weblate
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Monero.social and matrix.org
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> need to demote Erc?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> cant demote him
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> or there are no risks
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> ik
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> He killed the homeserver
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> immortalised
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Hes also admin in research lab
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> And haveno-dev has no admin at all. Broken forever
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> replace it?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> it is still risky, right?
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<bb3883:matrix.org> is Lauren London pretty ?
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> its time for XMPP
-
m-relay
<bb3883:matrix.org> second that
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> >Generally, for protocols like Matrix, XMPP or email that depend on DNS to work, if a malicious actor can control the target's DNS records, it's game over. They can take full control of the domain and, from there, can easily impersonate their target on any of the above protocols.
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> literally entire internet is like that
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yes, and is why i said that we should only have admins on monero.social
-
m-relay
<hardenedsteel:monero.social> also you can setup onion and i2p
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> And why we should 100% stop allowing admins on custom homeservers
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> hence why I suggested creating a new room where rules are strict and managable
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> translation room is already a ghost town
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> so nuke it and create a new one with a better logo
-
vthor
"vthor doesnt have a high opinion on monero-python i think." <- depends for what... Will read ater logs and the rest of the conversation
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Nuking monero.social rooms is liable to break the whole homeserver
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The server state keeps windows restoring to historical states
-
plowsof
monero community is currently on matrix dot org. moving that to monero social has been mentioned, but i wouldnt know what is involved
-
vthor
Well, yes monero-python is a) still working, b) mostly a (inclomplete wrapper around wallet-rpc) c) has some own crypto and appears to fine for use for offline stuff, only to figure out later it is only on the surface. It is archived. Source it self is great and I was about to extend some functionality, but then stopped because it's like pulling on a rope through the hole, you can't see the other side, and when I hit the need of hash_slow, I stoppen and
-
vthor
modified wallet-rpc instead. So, would not say low opinion, but also the use case for it IMO is restricted and not easily visible on starting using it. (I had after a short test the impression it could handle a lot more for offline wallets). And there is a weird issue with two seed(s) to same private key
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Monero community is on monero.social
-
vthor
And just my 5 piconeros, I think development resouces should have a central place, how the topic of monero is already a heavy weight and complex. And monero-python, would not throw away, but who will maintain it and document it...?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> how?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ^
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Monero-community literally reinstated old admins of deleted accounts
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Thats why sgp's magicgrants account is an admin (after he demoted himself and deleted the account and server)
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> no ofrn, no one will listen to your conspiracy theories in the hope of fixing once and for all monero.social instance. Please keep your reasonable take and mindful suggestions out of our channels
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> we should trial with Monero Markets
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Since that room is totally broken af
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> yes
