PapuaHardyNet
hello!
-
PapuaHardyNet
this may be a dumb question, but the seed is actually the private key, just obfuscated, correct?
-
hyc
the seed is both priv&pub key
-
PapuaHardyNet
I see, I see. So I just need my seed and I can "recover" my wallet
-
sech1
private spend key is derived from the seed, everything else is derived from the private spend key (in the official wallet)
-
PapuaHardyNet
hello sech1. I am unable to get monero-gui to work on alpine linux, which is why I was asking whether I could just use the seed and put it into, say, monero-cli
-
sech1
yes
-
PapuaHardyNet
awesome, I'll do that then.
-
PapuaHardyNet
sech1: cmake doesn't check beforehand for the existence of libexecinfo
-
PapuaHardyNet
(here I'm talking about compiling monero gui from source)
-
PapuaHardyNet
you are the only dev I recognize by username so I decided to ping you - forgive me, I'm new here

Maybe we should be playing breakout instead of pong.

Sorry and thanks apotheon, I write a bunch of things in IRC that never get transmitted due to various technology problems across devices. I'll repeat what I did this morning (sent to the bitbucket) now...
-
apotheon
Sorry? No problems.
-
apotheon
Don't take anything I said as a complaint.
-
msvb-lab
My ping and your helpful pong relates to my troubles using IRC (which is much better than any other non open RTC platform.)
-
msvb-lab
Reminder that tomorrow Saturday 3 July we have our thirteenth village staff meeting on #monero-events, to plan our Defcon 29 (4-8 August 2021 in Las Vegas) appearance. It's a public meeting that anyone can attend, see the agenda
monero-project/meta #586
-
apotheon
sorry to hear about IRC troubles
-
msvb-lab
A ton of things, like Freenode collapse, mobile phone keyboard, instable web proxy, bridge hell.
-
msvb-lab
And that is all for the RTC that works better than the others (Facebook/Reddit/Whatsapp...)
-
apotheon
gotcha
-
apotheon
I'd be more interested in Matrix if the clients suited me better.
-
Epsilon
What don't you like with the Matrix clients?
-
apotheon
I want a TUI client with good vi-like keybindings.
-
apotheon
(and no, weechat doesn't live up to that)
-
Epsilon
darn I was about to suggest that
-
apotheon
two big reasons
-
apotheon
1. The Matrix plugin is semi-broken; it produces dependency hell issues in some environments.
-
apotheon
2. The vi keybindings plugin is very awkward.
-
msvb-lab
Epsilon: My Matrix problem is not in a client, but I need to change the IRC bridge for #monero-hardware from Freenode to Libera. Without finding access information first. Or remembering how to configure bridges.

For mining, what do you take? Just the best computer component around I guess
-
Toadisattva
for best results use the best cpu you can find, but what's nice is you can pretty much any cpu made in the last decade to mine
-
Toadisattva
most older stuff won't be profitable on electricity use though
-
Toadisattva
you can use gpu's too but xmr is more efficient with cpu mining
-
thomasb06
Toadisattva cheers. For the moment, I'm a student but as soon as I have a salary, I'll make a PC with the best cpu around
