there's nothing architecture-dependent in the code
-
hyc
you should be able to build it with no trouble on M1

Aut0Exec
hi guys
-
Aut0Exec
I a bit late to the party but I was interested in mining monero... any tips
-
Aut0Exec
my goal is to get rich from this
-
sech1
Get rich? You'll make more money collecting bottles than mining Monero :D
-
Aut0Exec
but what about when the coin value starts to soar?
-
Aut0Exec
right now its pennies but... in 10 years
-
sech1
Then just buy $100 worth of XMR and you'll save yourself a year of mining
-
sech1
Or if you really want to mine XMR the most efficient way, use MoneroOcean pool
-
Aut0Exec
k
-
sech1
you'll mine most profitable coins and pool will auto-convert to XMR for you
-
Aut0Exec
just by using that pool?
-
sech1
yes, they pay out in XMR
-
Aut0Exec
oh nice
-
Aut0Exec
most people here just buy or mine?
-
Aut0Exec
its like 258 usd now
-
Aut0Exec
$234
-
Aut0Exec
sorry
-
Aut0Exec
lol $236.93
-
Aut0Exec
need more coffeee
-
sech1
I mine, mostly to heat up my apartment right now :D
-
Aut0Exec
hehe
-
Aut0Exec
that is.... killing 2 birds with one coin
-
Aut0Exec
:)
-
Aut0Exec
makes sense
-
Aut0Exec
what are the overall predictions in terms of coin value in 10 years?
-
Aut0Exec
only reason I want to mine is because I cant buy with a credit card by the way
-
Aut0Exec
I'm not in the great US of A
-
Aut0Exec
:)
-
sech1
If I knew how to predict 10 years into the future I'd be rich already :P
-
Aut0Exec
lol
-
Aut0Exec
perhaps you should be investing in time travel then my friend :)

Aut0Exec: My impression is that Monero is not the most profitable cryptocurrency to mine, but mining it is good for the Monero network, so go ahead and mine it if you like. Some people set up a mining rig with a good CPU for Monero to contribute to the network, and with a good GPU in the same machine for something else (e.g. Ethereum or Ergo) to get profits.

Aut0Exec: If you can get cryptocurrencies other than Monero, you can convert them into Monero by finding someone willing to trade for them.
-
apotheon
Aut0Exec: It may be harder with some currencies than others, of course. I haven't looked into it, but I guess a worst-case scenario might be that you'd have to find an exchange somewhere that will let you convert from whatever you've mined into a stablecoin, then from that to either Monero or something you'd like to trade for Monero.
-

Aut0Exec: Be aware of whether you're exposing your identity somewhere and creating taxable events in your jurisdiction when trading between cryptocurrencies, though.
-
Aut0Exec
apotheon: yeah to be honest... I'm turned off entirely by exchanges now
-
Aut0Exec
thanks for that info though
-
Aut0Exec
Not sure what I will do but I am looking to invest
-
Aut0Exec
not just Monero but a portfolio of sorts
-
apotheon
There may be some "defi" options for trading that I don't know. I haven't really looked into the defi options for currency exchange.
-

Aut0Exec: I'd recommend you think of Monero as more of a cash substitute rather than some kind of NYSE stock substitute, though.
-
apotheon
Maybe Monero would make for good savings and checking account material, while something more "mainstream" among cryptocurrencies might be the investment material, which you can "cash out" as Monero if you want to realize your gains.
-
apotheon
. . . unless you just intend to cash out as a fiat currency, in which case Monero's just likely to annoy the tax collector.
-
apotheon
Governments, in general, probably won't appreciate you using Monero very much. I appreciate people annoying tax collectors, though.
