Maybe try to import your mnemonic into Electrum or Sparrow Wallet? Trocador.app can help with Monero -> Bitcoin (choose Payment mode to pay invoices).
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
LocalMonero.co is fine. It also has escrow and reviews. Telegram room:

There a site that aggregated places that accepts xmr.

gingeropolous

gingeropolous

-
gingeropolous

-
gingeropolous

-
gingeropolous
gah, i wanna try easy / bootstrap but i don't wanna connect to a random node. :( i guess advanced it is
-
gingeropolous
hrm. too many negative words in the seed. i wonder if I hit back to menu if i can create another
-
gingeropolous
wait. Bootstrap node, and then a button to connect to a remote node?
-
gingeropolous
ooooh, clicking that button was not what i wanted
-
gingeropolous
methinks there needs to be a visual separation of that menu hiearchy

Register desktop* entry, or whatever
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Ive never used simple or bootstrap mode
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also, I have no idea the difference between the appimage and the gui binary
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Maybe youre supposed to use the appimage
-
gingeropolous
i ended up using the appimage
-
gingeropolous
but there's no desktop icon
-
gingeropolous
but there's a monero icon in the ubuntu equivalent of the home menu when i hit the windows key
-
gingeropolous
ima create an account
-
selsta
bootstrap node allows you to connect to a remote node while your local daemon is syncing
-
selsta
a remote node is simply a remote node, no local daemon involved
-
ofrnxmr[m]
<gingeropolous> "i ended up using the appimage" <- Hm. I must have used the binary then. My Ubuntu 22.04 doesnt add an icon to the menu
-
gingeropolous
yeah, i understand bootstrap node. the visual layout of the menu threw me. i will take a screenshot and add notes and post to the github
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Not sure if it makes a difference or what else could be up
-
gingeropolous
and the icon in the ubuntu menu is just default gearbox
-
selsta
are you talking about this issue?

-
nioc
hrm. too many negative words in the seed <<>> <3
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yeah
-
ofrnxmr[m]
selsta: a) I think on Ubuntu the icon needs to be place in $HOME/.local/share/icons
-
ofrnxmr[m]
B) $HOME/.icons (from the archwiki) works too, but that folder doesnt exist on Ubuntu by default. Maybe gui needs to check for and create the folder?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Edit a) I think that is the default location for user app icons* on ubuntu
-
selsta
plowsof11 looked into it so ^^
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yeah, I spoke with him about a and b
-
ofrnxmr[m]
(How I discovered a)
-
ofrnxmr[m]
plowsof had the script that created the folder as in b, but I was confused as I dont have this folder on any of my Ubuntu installs.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
So I went looking for where userspace apps store their icons on ubuntu, and it appears to be A.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Both a and b work though - adding the icon to either of those folders

Austrian econ thinkers can't complain about the government and banks anymore since we have Monero. Kills two birds with one stone.
-
Torr
fr33_yourself[m]: "monetarist" eh. A new word for today.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
Yes, monetarists believe that fractional reserve banking aids in economic progression and that the central bank should control the money supply. Their origin lies in the Great Depression where they argue the Fed should've intervened and inflated earlier to prevent the Depression from getting as bad as it indeed got.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
The Austrian view of the Great Depression is that the credit expansion prior to the depression enabled the contraction to be so severe as captial goods had been overinvested in due to cheap credit.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
The Austrian's also believe that by operating in a Full Reserve Monetary system you prevent bank runs and large deflationary crunches like during the Depression where the broad monery supply contracted 33%
-
fr33_yourself[m]
It's impossible for a cryptocurrencies that has a proof of work model like Bitcoin or Monero to experience credit contraction as there is no credit or debt permitted on chain. Simply the coin itself, like physical gold.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
People can lose their keys but that is different than a credit contraction
-
Rucknium[m]
If the accusations against Binance et al. are true, Bitcoin and Monero are already fractionally reserved. Blockchains do not prevent people giving up custody of their coins. It's called "free banking". I think _The Bitcoin Standard_ discusses this.
-
Rucknium[m]
Hal Finney talked about it: "Different banks can have different policies, some more aggressive, some more conservative. Some would be fractional reserve while others may be 100% Bitcoin backed. Interest rates may vary."
bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2500.msg34211#msg34211
-
Rucknium[m]
That's unregulated money for you :P
-
fr33_yourself[m]
<Rucknium[m]> "If the accusations against..." <- This is false. Bitcoin and Monero are not fractionally reserved. People are too stupid to hold their own coins and are content to accept counterfeits on crypto-banks balance sheets.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
<Rucknium[m]> "Hal Finney talked about it: "..." <- Yes, Centralized Exchanges are crypto-banks. The way I see things going though is that they disappear entirely eventually.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
Right now peole are stupid enough to trust an exchange to hold an internet money that they could personally hold in their own control by simply downloading an app on their phone and withdrawing to the specified public key.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
It's literally that simple
-
fr33_yourself[m]
People are stupid now, and trust third parties when they don't need to. Let some time elapse for these entities to mis-use and abuse customer trust and then get caught doing it in more aggrecious manners and eventually people will figure out it's worth the effort to hold their own coins privately and secure themselves against fraud.
-
louipc
they been doing it forever. the fraud will never cease and neither will the ability of plebs to blindly trust thieves. don't forget the stock exchange fraud of 1814 and countless other incidents
-
fr33_yourself[m]
Actually allow me to refine my view, it's possible that even in an enlightened future state crypto-banks exist for the purpose of lending out people's crypto for a profit then distributing some % of the profits back to the individual lender. They would exist for the sole purpose of facilitating lending to either consumers or producers. However people will eventually learn to be risk averse to trusting third parties to "hold" their
-
fr33_yourself[m]
money.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
I think eventually people will smarten up.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
I bet the upcoming wealthy class will be libertarian cypherpunks that are privacy oriented to avoid expropriation on the market side, and entities that are the first to receive new bank credit and government spending on the other side (cronies and insiders).

fr33_yourself[m]: Interesting take.

Reminds me of old Ford's view on bankers: "You will note that the financiers proposed to cure by lending money and not by bettering methods. They did not suggest putting in an engineer; they wanted to put in a treasurer. And that is the danger of having bankers in business. They think solely in terms of money."

Torr

Hi guys. I'm happy to report that basically, after two months of activity, when trading with Trocador you have a 0,05% to 0,15% chance of having your transaction flagged by exchanges. But even when flagged, we can intervene to help you deal with the exchange so your transaction is either completed or you are refunded without KYC. We currently have no reported case of a custumer having to go through KYC process.
