<Moss> We're providing multiple stratum servers (the servers you're actually mining to) all over the world to minimize your latency, isolate and load balance share verification which is the most important performance factor. Each of the presence location (United States, Europe, Russia and Southeast Asia) has a couple of dedicated hosts to guarantee availability in case of hardware/software or even whole datacenter outage. And the GEO DNS
-
hv-bridge
endpoint is what makes this transparent for you. Take a look at illustrative example:
check-host.net/check-dns?host=pool.hashvault.pro. Wherever you actually are in the world pool.hashvault.pro will resolve to the closest to you stratum server, and it will be resolved with a couple of ip address so your miner would automatically switch to another server if one of them will go offline.

Does anybody know what --tos-flag is in monerod?
-
rbrunner
After checking in the code I don't understand. Seems to be something pretty lowlevel. "tos" seems to stand for "Type of Service (ToS) for the IP header"
-
linux_dream
hi people. I know I will sound like an old dude asking the question for the N time again.... but... why don't monero switches to PoS ? Or... is there any Monero fork that does?
-
ceetee[m]
PoW is permission less, you don't need anyone to sell you their shares to participate, unlike PoS. This also makes it more robust against a takeover, even if you'd seize 51% of the mining hardware, others can simply ramp up their share. This is especially true for Moneros RandomX, that runs on commercial CPUs. And even IF somebody would seize hardware to attack, they would need to pay for electricity and maintance, unlike PoS, where you have
-
ceetee[m]
to do nothing to hold your position (besides running a node, maybe).
-
ceetee[m]
So overall RandomX is a much more robust system than any PoS could ever be.
-
linux_dream
thanks a lot ceetee[m], I am going to try to understand fully what you wrote
-
ceetee[m]
feel free to ask if you need more details
-
ceetee[m]
* more details or have specific questions
-
linux_dream
I am aware that a mining pool had over 50% hashrate a few months ago, but awareness on reddit made it possible to overcome the problem. i didn';t know about "randomX", now I start to understand why it was possible to overcome the problem
-
rbrunner
"is there any Monero fork that does" Zano is CryptoNote, like Monero, and half PoS / half PoW, and Oxen, a Monero fork, is PoS. And now shoot me down for shilling :)
-
linux_dream
I don't know how ethereum deals with the PoS problem, but I guess they figured out a solution that works well
-
rbrunner
Looks to me their "solution" is mostly "be big" ... you can't make that 51% PoS breakdown problem go away for good, IMHO.
-
sech1
a mining pool DIDN'T have over 50% hashrate a few months ago
-
ceetee[m]
Well, PoS "works" well enough to protect against small malicious actors, but if a country or several were committed to take it down it would be a lot easier
-
DanIsnotthemanBr

linux_dream read that thread. They looked % on some page that didn't count all pools. It never went above 45% at
miningpoolstats.stream/monero
-
selsta
they probably looked at the % out of all pools listed on that site instead of global hashrate
-
linux_dream
they looked on that website:
i.redd.it/s6hc3bijte391.jpg
-
linux_dream
I dont know which one it is, but it's written in terms of total hash rate
-
linux_dream
it's a dead website now, but yeah, it was total hash rate
-
selsta
the screenshot you shared misses the unknown hashrate
-
selsta
it's the percentage out of known pools and not global hashrate
-
linux_dream
Ok

Hi! Can sub-addresses be reused? I made a special subaddress to put on my website but I'm not entirely sure if it can be used multiple times or not. I'm using Feather Wallet, if that matters.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yes they can 👍
-
tmtt
Cool, thanks :)
-
xfedex[m]
<linux_dream> "they looked on that website..." <- p2pool should have a negative percent
-
xfedex[m]
since you don't have payout tx fees :-)
-
RavFX[m]
<xfedex[m]> "since you don't have payout tx..." <- On the opposite,
-
RavFX[m]
the tx fee are bigger (don't forget you want to spend the mined coin eventually, that bezillion output needed to create one monero)
-
RavFX[m]
Each output you add in a TX, increase the TX fee ;)
-
xfedex[m]
Oh right
-
xfedex[m]
Forgot about that :/
-
xfedex[m]
anyway moneroocean doesn't have 0% fee, i once mined on it and profit was slightly lower than what mining calculators said
-
xfedex[m]
plus moneroocean takes a fixed 0.0004 fee when withdrawing, which is more than a real tx fee
-
Bill48105
monerobull[m]1 ofrnxmr[m] it's my bot. it was invited to be in #monero long time ago to replace tippero that was no longer funtioning
-
Bill48105
it's responding to bridged users from matrix side but most matrix users are "guests" here without being logged in on irc so most of the bot commands don't work until the user logs in here
-
Bill48105
that's on how matrix does bridging just like the [m] part of the nicks
-
Bill48105
the bot supports matrix directly then uses the matrix authentication for bot access
