Mochi101: Would you say it's still safe to use?
-
Mochi101
Steven_M, yes
-
Mochi101
Personally I won't use something like that, but you must have your reasons.
-
Steven_M
Mochi101: It's just temporary until I get the problems with my own node sorted.
-
Steven_M
Mochi101: Cool, just to confirm, the URL is
mymonero.com, right?
-
endogenic
ask me
-
endogenic
i built it
-
endogenic
i cant maintain it anymore
-
endogenic
no access
-
Steven_M
endogenic: I've never seen you in here before.
-
endogenic
not sure what to tell ya
-
Steven_M
Can anyone vouch for endogenic?
-
endogenic
no need
-
endogenic
my code is public even if it was washed over
-
endogenic
as are my talks and irc records
-
endogenic
only question is how do you know i'm not actually chatgpt ?
-
endogenic
has anyone actually seen endogenic alive in the last X years?
-
Steven_M
endogenic: no offense, I've just never seen your nick.
-
endogenic
i may have seen yours once or twice
-
endogenic
you must have been here early
-
endogenic
not many people remember mymonero
-
endogenic
so, opposite of offense taken
-
endogenic
:)
-
Steven_M
:)
-
Mochi101
Steven_M, yes
-
Steven_M
Mochi101: Yes to the URL question, or yes to vouching for endogenic?
-
Mochi101
both
-
Steven_M
Mochi101: Okay, thank you :-)

» Steven_M has to go now, I'll be back later.

xmrack[m]
Does anyone have a link to the "private" block explorer project
-
xmrfn[m]
Quite a few.
-
xmrfn[m]
First. Impressive as hell. They claim to be able to factor integers in O(m/log m) physical qubits.
-
xmrfn[m]
From a cursory read, looks plausible. Naively for RSA2048 that would be ~617 qbits. The paper claims (and I believe them) it will take only 372.
-
Mochi101
modern day snake oil
-
Mochi101
having your cake and eating it too
-
xmrfn[m]
Best today are just shy of 100. It gets exponentially harder to manage as the number of bits goes up. But that's plausible in the 10-20 year future.
-
Mochi101
the cat is alive and dead
-
xmrfn[m]
They also claim breaking RSA2048 will take a depth (number of sequental gates/"run length" of quantum program) of "thousands". I'm not sure what the state of the art is for depth, or how quickly it's likely to improve.
-
xmrfn[m]
So yes, this is impressive, unexpected, possibly YUGE, and means RSA2048 probably has a shelf life of a few decades.
-
xmrfn[m]
But **no impact to Monero**, AFAICT
-
xmrfn[m]
This paper is all about factoring large numbers.
-
xmrfn[m]
Ed25519 is based on elliptic curves over finite fields, rather than the factorization of large numbers.
-
xmrfn[m]
Edit: After reading [Scott Aaronson’s post](
scottaaronson.blog/?p=6957) I see this almost certainly **isn't** a big deal -- likely won't scale to larger numbers

Hi All :-)
-
Steven_M
Is it normal for the same https website to be verified by different CA's in different browsers?
-
Steven_M
getmonero.org is resolving to www.getmonero.org instead of its usual web.getmonero.org, should I be worried?
-
binaryFate
.
-
fluffypony
Steven_M: yes it's still operational; mymonero.com -> scroll to the bottom and you'll see that we still operate the web wallet although we strongly discourage its use
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
Maybe curl or dig the website address to verify chain

* Hello guys,
-
user23434[m]
New monero user here. I was wondering what pc (pre-built as unfortunately I can't make one myself) should I buy to mine monero. My electricity price is about 0.22usd/kWh. Budget should ideally be less than $2000 but is flexible. Main concern is profitability.
-
user23434[m]
Thank you in advance for your help.
-
plowsof11
-
plowsof11
i don't know much about mining but i think what you've just said is missing the entire point of 'RandomX' / 1cpu1vote
-
merope
plowsof11: That graph is kinda pointless, this one is better:
moneroj.net/efficiency
-
merope
Unfortunately, at 0.22 $/kWh you're gonna lose money
-
merope
(unless the Monero price goes up significantly
-
merope
In this context, profitability = (your mining efficiency / breakeven efficiency) - 1
-
merope
so a profitability of 0 means that all your mining income is spent on paying for the electricity you used
-
Jack[m]
any good reads on why I should host my own node?
-
plowsof11
-
Jack[m]
ahh, I started watching that series
-
Jack[m]
got too boring by part 3
-
Jack[m]
I'll check this out though, thanks
-
merope
tldr: better privacy, and much smaller chance of malicious stuff happening (like the node telling your wallet that you should pay 1 xmr/byte in tx fees

16:35:20 <FuFo> Hi there, forgot my token number to see my history...
xmrvsbeast.com/cgi-bin/p2pool_bonus_history.cgi any hope to generate it again? sorry guys...
-
ofrnxmr[m]
endor00: plowsof @plowsof:matrix.org: found this one the other day
poolbay.io/crypto/23/monero
-
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also shows pool hashrates etc like minerpoolstats, though its missing a couple pools
-
FuFo
nice pools...but I still trying to access to my own history after I forgot my token
xmrvsbeast.com/cgi-bin/p2pool_bonus_submit.cgi ...How can I get the Token number again?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
#p2pool-mini:libera.chat and ping xmrvsbeast
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Or #xmrmine:matrix.org
-
ofrnxmr[m]
After those two, you will have collected all of the infinity stones and reposted the same message. Best time just add a header IMPATIENT

ofrnxmr nicer-looking plot than bitinfocharts, but revenue per kH/s means fuckall on its own
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yeah, just below is a calculator too :P
-
merope
it's all about efficiency, which in turn tells you exactly how many $/kWh you can earn by mining
-
merope
yeah, I mean the plot
-
merope
because you can't really learn anything useful from it alone
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Overall I like that the site seems to merge a few different sites feature into one (minerpoolstars, bitinfochsrts )
-
merope
<merope> "That graph is kinda pointless..." <- That's why I told Morpheus to add this ^ to his site
-
xfedex[m]
-
xfedex[m]
You should use a computer you already own to mine it
-
xfedex[m]
i recommend p2pool-mini as a mining pool, and xmrig as a mining software
-
RavFX[m]
Mine with everything you already own, it's what I do too.
-

What happens if I first synced with prune-blockchain=1, and then remove this parameter and start monerod?
-
sech1
blockchain will remain pruned
-
sech1
and new blocks too
-
llacqie[m]
And where does he keep the information that the blockchain is pruned? In lmdb file?
