tulips[m]
i want to install telegram and use an android emulator instead of my phone to make the account

fmda1[m]: theres no install for linux

normie63[m]
why do you guys think .gov allows monero to continue and not make it go the way of tornado cash? what is so robust about monero?
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> utility & throughput
-
normie63[m]
cant they just round up the devs if they want?
-
exist[m]
many are anonymous
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Free software
-
ofrnxmr[m]
N a lot, maybe most are far from anonymous
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Did you think they'd make a cbdc by themself? They need us, for now
-
ofrnxmr[m]
And comparing to tornadocash is apples to horses
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Tornado cash is a money laundering service, monero is money
-
normie63[m]
interesting, i agree and I think that explains BTC development.
-
normie63[m]
Ive long since thought BTC blockchain is the beta test for cbdc
-
normie63[m]
its an open ledger for Fs sake
-
normie63[m]
agreed, seems to me that if/when monero hits mainstream adoption, it will be considered counterfit and/or tax avoidance to scare users away and penalize.
-
normie63[m]
not fud, just my obeservation as an advocate
-
normie63[m]
They do indeed need you for now. What happens when they no longer need you? classic case of entrapment perhaps
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
ones a service and one is cash
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also, they will attack when there are biggwr fish to fry
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Why attack a coin worth 0.5% of USA military budget
-
normie63[m]
perhaps because the encryption is persumably unbreakable, untraceable.
-
normie63[m]
they dont like encryption as we've seen
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Nothing to do with encryption
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
also found out on monerotalk that tornadocash is a client of coinbase
-
ofrnxmr[m]
They could ddos development with a few bots
-
ofrnxmr[m]
You dont show your hand early, you crush them when they think they've won
-
normie63[m]
you mean bug the code?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Why go on a war against crypto when they can just come for the survivors after the war?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
No, I mean a 700b yearly military budget means less than 1% of it can hire 100x our developer codebase and buy all of the monero on every exchange
-
normie63[m]
yeah perhaps they can utilize such a privacy coin for laundering to ukraine etc
-
ofrnxmr[m]
If the government release a cdbc tomorrow, and it was an exact copy of monero, difference being that it it not mined / it is centralized.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Do you think regular people would use monero?
-
cockliuser[m]
Use the reply function not the thread one 😅
-
normie63[m]
> <@ofrnxmr:monero.social> If the government release a cdbc tomorrow, and it was an exact copy of monero, difference being that it it not mined / it is centralized.
-
normie63[m]
>
-
normie63[m]
> Do you think regular people would use monero?
-
normie63[m]
yes, normies would use whatever theyre told to use
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Theyd use whatever they get from their employer and can spend at the store.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Why attack monero, when we can wrote all of govs code for them, then just fade into obscurity ?
-
normie63[m]
monero wont be used as cbdc , its not programmable
-
cockliuser[m]
> <@ofrnxmr:monero.social> Theyd use whatever they get from their employer and can spend at the store.
-
cockliuser[m]
>
-
cockliuser[m]
> Why attack monero, when we can wrote all of govs code for them, then just fade into obscurity ?
-
cockliuser[m]
Why would the government make a private CBDC though? Kind of destroys the whole point of making a CBDC
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Because fiat is private?
-
cockliuser[m]
Cash is still traceable, and it's hard to move large amounts around
-
ofrnxmr[m]
People use Bitcoin so much they forgot that traditional finance is private
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Centralized, but private
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Government Monero, of course banks and government would hold full copy of your keys
-
ofrnxmr[m]
But people transitions from visa to government monero, dont see any drawbacks
-
cockliuser[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: But why Monero then, why not something like Nano
-
ofrnxmr[m]
We here in this room made a choice
-
ofrnxmr[m]
The government doesnt need shitcoins
-
ofrnxmr[m]
They need a replacement for traditional finance
-
normie63[m]
i read someplace that gov may use XRP/Ripple
-
normie63[m]
for cbdc
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Our goal is the same as theirs, only ours is already distributed
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Aka governments like USA would never adopt monero if the supply wasnt already owned by them
-
ofrnxmr[m]
normie63[m]: Dont male me laugh
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Thats just fud to get dummies to focus on shitcoins
-
cockliuser[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: Yeah but the main point of Monero is privacy and it wouldn't make sense for the government to use a private currency while keeping custody of keys instead of just opting for a public ledger
-
normie63[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: seriously, XRP is being held up in SEC to keep the plebs from buying in
-
ofrnxmr[m]
How do you figure?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Public ledgers arent money
-
ofrnxmr[m]
A public ledger cbdc isnt money either
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Its a damn joke
-
ofrnxmr[m]
The cdbc WILL be private
-
ofrnxmr[m]
At least, private between parties
-
cockliuser[m]
A public ledger in custody of the government would be private
-
normie63[m]
fedcoin design docs are out there, should give some indication of intention
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Monero gets banned because it is a real competitor to their future reserve
-
ofrnxmr[m]
normie63[m]: Yea
-
ofrnxmr[m]
They quote Monero devs lol
-
cockliuser[m]
Arguably, Banks are public ledgers though and they're private between parties
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Imagine using Bitcoin mainnet with your bank
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yeah right
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
put cbdc nft in the block
-
normie63[m]
the nft will be your digital id
-
normie63[m]
value will be based on your social credit score
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Mine is 0
-
normie63[m]
sounds plausible
-
normie63[m]
no?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Social credit score, that is. Theyll need to figure out what to do with me
-
normie63[m]
off to the gulags
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Probably make me their leader, if they know whats good for them 👑

WinterStar
I have a multipart question concerning Monero:
-
WinterStar
For a currency to be useful, it needs not only to be generally accepted as a currency, but also obtainable (e.g. by normies)
-
WinterStar
I presume we probably all agree that the proper method of obtaining and maintaining a privacy centric cryptocurrency is through mining, not purchase from a third party
-
WinterStar
However, will the mining difficulty in and of itself not stand in the way of broad availability of in this case Monero, and therefore ultimately also its acceptance?
-
sech1
Difficulty is self-balancing. If it gets too hard to mine, some miners will stop and difficulty will reduce.
-
sech1
So as long as you have an efficient hardware (Ryzen 3000/5000/7000) and low or no electricity costs, you're fine.
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> i don't think most people agree with this. not everyone can earn their entire living through mining because that would mine the currency would have to be inflationary.
-
bridgerton[m]
the primary means of obtaining is through labor. the same way most people earn money today. people need to seek jobs and/or businesses that provide XMR
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> "proper method of obtaining and maintaining a privacy centric cryptocurrency"
-
bridgerton[m]
the primary goal is to become the primary currency. there's no need to buy with fiat at that point.
-
monerobull[m]
if anyone has the balls to use morphswap and has a bunch of btc lying around, i dare you to arb it
-
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> the question said nothing about "currently". it asked for the proper way.
-
cockliuser[m]
Buying Monero through a peer is akin to using a currency exchange, I'd argue it is proper
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> that method depends on fiat remaining the more commonly used currency. that goal is to destroy fiat.
-
bridgerton[m]
s/that/the/
-
cockliuser[m]
Correct me if I'm wrong, by buying Monero, you're creating selling pressure for fiat, essentially contributing to the destruction of fiat
-
cockliuser[m]
* I'm wrong, but by buying
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> not wrong, but it's not sustainable if fiat dies, which is the entire point.
-
bridgerton[m]
by not using fiat at all, it also dies. and it's sustainable.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
<cockliuser[m]> "Correct me if I'm wrong, by..." <- Wrong
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Fiat is printed to soften thecsellinf pressure
-
cockliuser[m]
But printing fiat decreases its value though, so I don't see how selling pressure would be softened
-
nioc
thecsellinf
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Softened, not eliminated
-
bridgerton[m]
<᷾s> But in softening that selling pressure they're also causing fiat to lose value by increasing its supply
-
bridgerton[m]
<kemosabe> it can't be
-
cockliuser[m]
Ahahaha discord replies don't show up in Matrix either
-
cockliuser[m]
Tit for tat
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
Why use it. Privacy nightmare
-
bridgerton[m]
<᷾s> Some people do, and if you're using the web client it's not that different from a matrix room since all messages are public anyway
-
apotheon
DanIsnotthemanBr: Do you mean Discord?
-
MaddieKalan
Can I delete the last 10 blocks of my monerod or something and make it redownload those? Aparently every peer has been banned and I'm 1 block ahead??
-
ofrnxmr[m]
pop_blocks 10
-
ofrnxmr[m]
--add-priority-node=node.supportxmr.com:18080 --add-priority-node=nodes.hashvault.pro:18080 --enable-dns-blocklist

is supportxmr online?
-
selsta
MaddieKalan: could be a corrupted blockchain
-
selsta
where do you store the blockchain? which OS are you using?
-
MaddieKalan
HDD (I want to get a big SSD in the future) and artix linux
-
ofrnxmr[m]
<plowsof11> "is supportxmr online?" <- Stolen from p2pool setup guide 👀
-
MaddieKalan
Transaction spends at least one output which is too young
-
selsta
does it properly sync up again afert pop_blocks ?
-
selsta
and are you using an external hdd?
-
MaddieKalan
I ran pop_blocks again and I get a lot of those too young messages, yes the hdd is external.
-
selsta
did you unplug it during sync / use?
-
selsta
your node starting to ban all peers sounds like corrupted blockchain
-
Rucknium[m]
Or old software version
-
MaddieKalan
Ohhh, not that kinda of extrernal hdd, its internal, sorry im dumb and tiered, i should go to sleep
