Hello! For some reason, I am unable to click Payment Proof in Monero GUI when using a Ledger Nano X
-
RonaldR34g4m
oh well, maybe you should use bitcoin instead
-
RonaldR34g4m
you can get the same privacy if you use lightning network or liquid etc
-
RonaldR34g4m
supported by Blockstream Jade
-
RonaldR34g4m
which is a much better and safer option than a dodgy ledger product
-
RonaldR34g4m
for cold storage...
-
RonaldR34g4m
run. your own node with blockstream products, get yourself their antenna and transact over satellite comms
-
RonaldR34g4m
use layer 2, layer 3
-
RonaldR34g4m
but dont get lost in the monero bullshit
-
RonaldR34g4m
oh I just noticed this is monero s channel
-
RonaldR34g4m
uhhh.. I'll just leave for now
-
RonaldR34g4m
lol
-
plowsof11
notices #monero:libera.chat is a monero channel and offers tips and tricks for using bitcoin securely

reads like an anti-bitcoin shill
-
Achifaifa[m]
Can't even tell if it's satire or not at this point
-
RavFX[m]
What I did see layer 3 I did guess it was satire
-
RavFX[m]
Or do that are actually layer 3 stuff on bitcorn now?
-
bioset[m]
Id regard custodial lightning wallet as L3 interface
-
maxenttech[m]
Any Python web developers around? I'm hiring a back-end or full-stack developer for a project involving Monero.
-
riceandbeans
Python for Monero? Gross.
-
maxenttech[m]
Python is for the web app.

comradeblin[m]
Feel free to message me
-
comradeblin[m]
<riceandbeans> "Python for Monero? Gross." <- Your problem being? Python is an awesome language, it is not the fastest, thats all.
-
comradeblin[m]
<imprevisto[m]> "python not dead" <- His problem is that it is slow i think, but #MoneroSubscriptionsWallet is in python too. No problem with slowness
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
yeah was gonna say the sub wallet is python
-
comradeblin[m]
Also, we are looking for suggestions for both the sub and the business wallet with luke
-
comradeblin[m]
IVPN or Mullvad?
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
i use iVPN and no account info neede

comradeblin[m]
The main dev of the sub wallet
-
comradeblin[m]
<DanrdarkIsnotthe> "i use iVPN and no account..." <- I am thinking on that. Also I realized that Viktor Vecses is hungarian from the Monerokon IVPN.
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
yeah
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
he floats on matrix too
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
and also they seem to get audit quiet a lot. no logging audit, infrastructure audit

DanrdarkIsnotthe: why have you pasted the Sub link?

RymdLord[m]: the devices does not store the monero, the seed does
-
comradeblin[m]
your seed is your wallet
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
your just restore the same wallet
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
s/restore/restoring/
-
comradeblin[m]
wdym? you just open the same wallet on an other computer
-
comradeblin[m]
It has the money
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
127.0.0.1 transaction
-
comradeblin[m]
Wallet 1 (10$) - pc1 you open pc2 and enter the seed of the wallet 1 from pc1, you will have the same 10$
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
easier to find out what your trying to do
-
comradeblin[m]
DanrdarkIsnotthe: Thats why to use your own node :)
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
i mean why is rym asking the question
-
comradeblin[m]
ahhaaa
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
but yeah run your own node!
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
makes plowsof happy
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
my next monerotalk episodei have to listen too is about monero sub wallet
-
comradeblin[m]
:D
-
comradeblin[m]
I am just selecting the parts for my home server rn, will run p2pool instance, xmrnode, and a lot else
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
s/episodei/episode/
-
comradeblin[m]
RymdLord[m]: OHHH, you need to scan the transaction ids then
-
merope
RymdLord[m]: You probably forgot to set the restore height to something before your first transaction, so the wallet did not scan the chain
-
merope
There's a rescan function that will rescan the entire chain from 0
-
merope
And then you should see all your transaction history again (assuming you got the seed right)
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
yeah restore height or wrong seed phrase
-
comradeblin[m]
merope: wait a minute? how do I do that in Monero GUI, cuz I used my ledger, and it is bugged, 1 restore height, but didnt restore the txs, I had to scan the ids one by one lmao
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
wont see the $$
-
merope
RymdLord[m]: If you get the restore height wrong, nothing bad happens - your wallet just won't see your past transactions, so you won't see any Monero that you might own until you rescan
-
comradeblin[m]
"Rescan Wallet Balance" didnt work xd
-
merope
But all your coins are forever on the chain, so they can't be lost
-
merope
As long as you have the correct seed, you can always recover your coins (write it down on a piece of paper and store it safely!)
-
comradeblin[m]
merope: unless u forget ur seed 💀
-
merope
comradeblin[m]: That only rescans the known txes to check for spent outputs, I think. There should be a separate function to actually do a full rescan, but it might be available only in advanced mode?
-
comradeblin[m]
RymdLord[m]: You did everything correctly, you just didnt set the recover height
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
sounds like restore height then
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
i think there using monerujo
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
--restore-height <arg> Only scan for transactions later than specific blockchain height. The default is 0. Raising the value makes wallet restoration radically faster. The optimal value should match the day you originally created the wallet (but cannot be later). The mapping between the block height and date/time is available on block explorers like
xmrchain.net. For instance, if you created the wallet in 2019+ use 1730000.
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
thats for cli
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
yeah
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
but your using ujo?
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
s/ujo/monerujo/
-
merope
RymdLord[m]: No, seed offset is a different thing entirely. Leave empty if you did not use it when you generated the wallet
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
you can re create the wallet again. nothing gets lost
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe

How to change Wallet restore height / Wrong or zero balance after synchronizing... (full message at <
libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/do…3eb9d9aee3d5f58e6864691a0ba7198aa6a>)
-
merope
A full rescan should take way longer than that
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
yeah
-
merope
Yes
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
you using ledger?
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
😕
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
doesn't matter what device it is as long as you have the seed phrase
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
thats diff
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
was it ledger?
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
ledger is separate device
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
-
merope
I'm not sure why are you sending so many links to things unrelated to the issue at hand (restoring a wallet on Monerujo)
-
merope
Oh, ok, I guess I got confused with all the other messages
-
merope
Anyway, just try to redo the restore procedure from seed. Make sure you set restore height 0, no seed offset, and let it do its thing (it should scan the whole chain)
-
merope
It's just the password to decrypt your wallet files
-
comradeblin[m]
you cannot have "inbuilt ledgers"
-
merope
Seed offset is a completely different thing, it actually changes your seed into a different seed, so it's like you're restoring a completely different wallet
-
merope
RymdLord[m]: I know, it's a little confusing
-
merope
Correct, and none of those thing are a seed offset
-
gingeropolous
lulz. xmr-pr bot called my a nub. touche bot

They only take lightning but whatever, one can always swap
-
k4r4b3y[m]
<louissignet[m]> "They only take lightning but..." <- Do they run their own LN node?
-
-
louissignet[m]
Perhaps, there’s a raspberry pi next to the Bitcoin books
-
k4r4b3y[m]
<louissignet[m]> "Perhaps, there’s a raspberry..." <- Ask them if they are using custodial LN or not
-
k4r4b3y[m]
Rpi is a special fetish of the core cucks
-
louissignet[m]
QR was from a custodial ln service, so no.
-
-
louissignet[m]
Maxis favorite qualified custodian literally lost the keys to their wallet.
-
louissignet[m]
How much BTC was effectively burned?
-
louissignet[m]
This is why we need Tail Emission ( or Demurrage ) if you want a long-term stable monetary supply.
-
ctrose010[m]
Thank you for helping me understand this! I was unsure why there is no hard cap on Monero for a supply.
-
louissignet[m]
The problem must people concentrate is on miners security budget ( having enough incentive for miners to keep mining )
-
louissignet[m]
But I care about the long term supply problem. Price discovery needs a healthy liquid supply
-
ctrose010[m]
Yeah, these are all issues with BTC. Soon, so many will be lost, and the network will have a majority control. I support Monero!
-
louissignet[m]
Btc is not proof of work but yeah supply is an issue for a variety of reasons.
-
louissignet[m]
Sorry
-
louissignet[m]
Proof of stake*
-
louissignet[m]
Btc is not proof-of-stake*
-
ctrose010[m]
Well, to me, if a company contributes to a majority of the processing power, can't they make changes to the chain?
-
ctrose010[m]
That is, if the number of miners lowers greatly due to no incentives.
-
dudeitwasntme2
Is there any way for my app to received notifications when there is a transaction on a particular wallet address, like there is in Electrum (Bitcoin)?
-
louissignet[m]
Yea that would be a problem. Miners need incentives
-
louissignet[m]
dudeitwasntme2: Only if you surrender your view keys to a third party or you run a wallet 24/7 on background mode on android
-
merope
<dudeitwasntme2> "Is there any way for my app to..." <- Yes. You could use monero_wallet_rpc for example. There should be a function called "tx_notify", or something like that. There are other methods as well, depending on your setup
-
merope
louissignet[m]: Nope
-
plowsof11
lol
-
leoDMsopen[m]
what's the best hardware wallet for monero
-
plowsof11
ah ok, i see where louis is coming from. but yep --tx-notify Command %s (where command could be "python3 somescript.py" and the first argument would be the txid (at 0 confs, then again at 1st conf)
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
Monero cli integration to signal???
-
louissignet[m]
<merope> "Nope" <- Well, in effect you are storing your view keys in a vps and running the wallet 24/7 albeit in a computer instead of an android.
-
louissignet[m]
Sure it can be done. I never said it couldn't be done. I just wrote two different ways of doing it. Doing it via a server would be a third way.
-
merope
You do realize that "a server" and "a vps" are equivalent in this case, right? Nothing stops you from running that on a local machine within your control. You don't need to hand your viewkey to a third party - even if you're relying on a remote node
-
DanrdarkIsnotthe
They found me!
-
louissignet[m]
<merope> "You do realize that "a server..." <- Sure if you have a computer at home, it would still need to run 24/7. The second scenario I described, doesn’t matter if it’s an android, a server, a local machine, a laptop.
-
k4r4b3y[m]
<louissignet[m]> "prime_trust_keys_underscore.jpg" <- What's the source for this?
-
louissignet[m]
Twitter, search for prime trust
-
k4r4b3y[m]
thanks, just found an article about this
-
dudeitwasntme2
louissignet: yes, I am running my own node and daemon, which I talk to via RPC
-
dudeitwasntme2
merope: i dont see anything tx_notify in the docs but that is exactly what im looking for
-
dudeitwasntme2
-
dudeitwasntme2
nothing there
-
merope
-
merope
Though it might not be complete ^
-
merope
-
merope
^ this shows --tx-notify (it's a startup flag for the rpc wallet)
-
dudeitwasntme2
merope: ah thanks, i was expecting to attach the notify url to each individual wallet address like you do with Electrum
-
