i have a old data.mdb and lock.mdb file for the gui wallet and i pointed the wallet's blockchain location to it. is that all thats needed to re-use an older copy of blockchain and resume adding to it? does it need to be checked? what kind of statuses should i expect
-
azizLIGHT
i see "waiting for daemon to sync" with no progress on the bar and "daemon blocks remaining: xxxxx" with slowly increasing progress on the progress bar
-
TrasherDK[m]
<azizLIGHT> "i see "waiting for daemon to..." <- So, what is unclear ?
-
azizLIGHT
what is the next step after this status
-
azizLIGHT
are there more steps
-
azizLIGHT
and is it working, what i did
-
azizLIGHT
or will it error out once it reaches the end
-
TrasherDK[m]
Wait for the daemon to finish syncing the blockchain, which might take a while.
-
plowsof11
It will need to complete before you can use it. Please confirm the version you are using e.g. in gui go to settings -> info
-
azizLIGHT
are there copies of the blockchain i can download myself (and verify) and plug into the dir
-
azizLIGHT
0.18.2.2-release (Qt 5.15.10)
-
azizLIGHT
when i went to sleep yesterday it seems like it did get stuck and didnt move. what was that about. i restarted the wallet and now the number is moving
-
azizLIGHT
why are there 2 progress bar
-
TrasherDK[m]
One is the wallet, waiting for the other, the daemon, to finish syncing, a that point the wallet will start syncing, after which you can start using the wallet 😆
-
plowsof11
Perfect, version is good. The daemon needs an up to date version of the blockchain. Your wallet then checks for transactions belonging to it. 2 separate processes that take time
-
azizLIGHT
TrasherDK[m]: thanks, that makes a lot of sense. wish it was labeled a bit better
-
azizLIGHT
Wallet: waiting for daemon to sync Blockchain: blocks remaining
-
azizLIGHT
maybe. idk
-
TrasherDK[m]
Yup, that's the one.
-
TrasherDK[m]
Oh, I don't remember the actual message in the wallet 😳

If I added tor onion monero node sites from monero.fail with the flag --add-exclusive-node would that then force syncing through those .onion websites and other traffic? or would other traffice not go through those nodes?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
No
-
ofrnxmr[m]
1. Those are rpc node ports
-
ofrnxmr[m]
2. Onion p sync isnt a thing
-
ofrnxmr[m]
onion blockchain*
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Add-exclusive for onion and i2p only works to add anonymous-inbound configurd nodes
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Reading the readme on monero-project/monero ctrl-f exclusive
-
ofrnxmr[m]
It explains that if you use exclusive flag for anon-inbound nodes, you also require clearnet
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also require ie you also must use add-exclusive for clearnet nodes
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Is it technically possible for monero to sync over onion? Yes. But its not (currently) designed or implemented to support that
-
wizeguyy[m]
I'm curious who would want to _sync_ over TOR. Syncing over normie-net only reveals that you are running a monero node. I wonder if some users find that an unaccepatble risk
-
MajesticBank
Last time I did some deeper dive into monero over tor sync, I've noticed it worked best in feather wallet

since tobtoht did some serious optimization on his end
