Finally got my money back from changenow, never using them again.
-
uncle_rae
Siren[m]: how long did it take for th refund?
-
Siren[m]
uncle_rae: 4 days and dealing with their ridiculous support
-
uncle_rae
sorry to hear that

when utilzing the cli wallet, if i misplace my keys. How can I retrieve them? public and private? the wallet produces a seed phrase but can it do keys as well?
-
rbrunner
try "apropos key". Should give you a list of all commands that deal with keys one way or another. As far as I remember to can query keys.
-
rbrunner
However dealing with seeds is much easier in almost all cases. You can restore from secret key, but not in every wallet.
-
wrightpt1[m]
hero status. got it. view key is the command
-
wrightpt1[m]
okay, gotcha
-
wrightpt1[m]
its all one word
-
wrightpt1[m]
viewkey
-
wrightpt1[m]
sorry about that
-
rbrunner
And, well, the view key is the less important key. The spend key is more important ...
-
wrightpt1[m]
<rbrunner> "And, well, the view key is the..." <- The spend keys provide full control over the funds in the wallet, allowing the holder to both view and spend them.
-
wrightpt1[m]
While the view keys allow visibility into the wallet's incoming transactions but not the outgoing ones. It is also unable to sign transactions, so it cannot spend the funds
-
wrightpt1[m]
seems like added complexity but Im assuming the view keys are used by some type of third parties in the blockchain
-
wrightpt1[m]
that only need to view something about transaction

Rucknium[m]
wrightpt1: If I am a merchant, do I want my employees to be able to confirm that payment has been made for goods and service, yet not be able to spend the wallet funds to themselves?
-
Rucknium[m]
If I am a mediocre sysadmin (which I am), do I want my VPS and any attacker with access to have control over spending my wallet's funds?
-
tfazofficial[m]
isn't that what read only wallets are for
-
Rucknium[m]
View keys have been a part of Monero since the beginning. Anyway, view and spend keys do not scratch the surface of Monero's complexity unfortunately.
-
Rucknium[m]
tfazofficial: That's what I am saying. The only way to read what's going on in the wallet is to have the view key. You can't figure out what's going on in the wallet from the blockchain data alone since it's encrypted, basically, unlike bitcoin and other transparent coins.

I had the idea of helping out a kids football school in my neighborhood in Buenos Aires to pay for jerseys so all of the kids have one. If I raise enough to cover most of the cost I can put Monero as the sponsor on it, which I think would be super cool. I wrote more about it at

If you want, I fixed some bugs on Kuno recently, so you could use it to display fundraiser progress:
kuno.bitejo.com It's just a frontend for an address + view key. Non-custodial and zero fees.

wrightpt1[m]
<Rucknium[m]> "wrightpt1: If I am a merchant..." <- Excellent point, spend keys should be protected with the highest level of security.
-
wrightpt1[m]
<anhdres[m]> "I had the idea of helping out..." <- Would it not be more valuable to focus on developing products that truly leverage the product's capabilities rather than concentrating on marketing?
-
anhdres[m]
wrightpt1[m]: I would hardly consider this marketing, it's more of a good will effort. But if we're talking about products, I've dedicated more hours on Monerujo support and testing for the upcoming release than to my "actual" job.

anhdres[m]
<anarkiocrypto[m]> "If you want, I fixed some bugs..." <- damn it I should have thought about it before posting the subaddress!
-
anhdres[m]
I've already started to receive a couple of piconeros, I guess I'll share it manually this time, but Kuno looks great!

anhdres[m]: I wonder if how much the bridge is working. I don't have a twitter account so if the address was posted there I cannot see it
