I think I might need to charge interest rate after all of this finishes.

Excuse me what is this I'm seeing in my logs? "2023-08-03 14:06:42.593 I ###### REORGANIZE on height: 2943923 of 2943923 with cum_difficulty 296414540707750474" --> cum difficulty? <--
-
zerglingman[m]
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
zerglingman[m]
It's probably short for cumulative.
-
MaddieKalan
But my teen brain is telling me someone has testicular disfunction, LMAO :table flip emote:
-
rbrunner
Yup, it's "cumulative"
-
rbrunner
Because if you have 2 chains that compete for being the one "true" chain, you do not simply compare which one has more blocks, but you compare the cumulated difficulty

They need to sync their monero wallet with Sri Lankan DSL internet

Thank you guys

I've just uploaded my first prototipe of Monero web app

does anyone run a node on aws? what is the avg cost
-
lza_menace8
Depends on your instance size, disk configuration, and typical bandwidth each month. AWS is generally pretty expensive
-
edge7[m]
-
wrightpt1[m]
lza_menace8: how do you recommend running one if accepting monero for payment through ecommerce?
-
wrightpt1[m]
are there enough nodes?
-
wrightpt1[m]
data from 2019 "We show that Monero’s network
-
wrightpt1[m]
is highly centralized — 13.2% of the nodes collectively maintain 82.86%
-
wrightpt1[m]
of the network connections. We have identified approximately 2,758 active nodes per day, which is 68.7% higher than the number reported by
-
wrightpt1[m]
the MoneroHash mining pool. "
-
wrightpt1[m]
-
lza_menace8
old doc, i regularly see 20,000+ nodes running in a day
-
lza_menace8
always could use more
-
lza_menace8
bite the bullet and pay for a large enough machine or use a public node
-
wrightpt1[m]
lza_menace8: can i run the machine from home with non business internet connection? vs cloud
-
Rucknium[m]
lza_menace8: Do you have a methodology for the node count on monero.fail?
-
lza_menace8
brute force :D
-
lza_menace8
I get an initial list of peers from my source node (singapore), then ask them for their peers, then ask them for their peers, ad infinitum until I cannot find any more
-
Rucknium[m]
wrightpt1: Yes. Easy. A pruned node is about 70GB of storage. The only hard part is if you want to have incoming connections (connections that other nodes initiate). If you want that, you need to open ports on your computer and network device (probably a router).
-
Rucknium[m]
lza_menace8: Thanks. Do you refresh the list every 24 hours, i.e. remove nodes that do not show up in a new scan?
-
lza_menace8
the script is very resource intensive (poorly written + python), so i scan once weekly to prevent sluggishness on the site. nodes not seen on current scan are removed
-
lza_menace8
*nodes in the database that are not seen in each scan are removed
-

I am using the cli wallet and try to connect to a public node. get this error message:
-
wrightpt1[m]
"This is the command line monero wallet. It needs to connect to a monero
-
wrightpt1[m]
daemon to work correctly."
-
wrightpt1[m]
are the urls on monero.fail not daemons?
-
wrightpt1[m]
--daemon-address --wallet-file and --trusted-daemon
-
lza_menace8
suspect your arguments are being incorrectly passed
-
wrightpt1[m]
monero-wallet-cli --daemon-address
bunkernet.ddns.net:18089 --wallet-file /home/wallet/file --trusted-daemon

lza_menace8
i just did the wrong thing :D
-
lza_menace8
--generate-new-wallet /tmp/test
-
lza_menace8
s/wrong/same/
-
wrightpt1[m]
one has to put the actual name of the wallet in the file path
-
wrightpt1[m]
I still get this error though: Wallet password:
-
wrightpt1[m]
Error: failed to load wallet: basic_string::_M_replace_aux
-
wrightpt1[m]
Error: You may want to remove the file "/home/p/Monero/" and try again

wrightpt1[m]
wallet works with gui
-
wrightpt1[m]
sudo apt install monero
-
wrightpt1[m]
install the older version
-
wrightpt1[m]
it worked
-
wrightpt1[m]
thank you so much
-
wrightpt1[m]
how efficient is the Cli mining? assume not much bc its so generalized for any hardware
-
wrightpt1[m]
anyway, thank you all for the help
-
lza_menace8
it's not
-
lza_menace8
xmrig is much more performant
