<karano:poddery.com> hello

m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> i am trying to download the blockchain , so as ro run a local node.
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> but i think its progress is really slow
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> at the current rate it might take even a month to finish just downloading the blockchain and finish syncing
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> my internet speed is 100mbs , but still its taking like 1gb per day to download

<karano:poddery.com> i am trying to download the blockchain , so as to run a local node.
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> Where is the blockchain stored? Using anything but an SSD slows it down a lot
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> ohh

m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> i currently have an hdd , but i am thinking of upgrading it.
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> A 1TB M.2 SSD costs as little as 40€
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> I think its well worth the investment, not only for your node, but also for all other applications running on the same device
-
moneromooo
Is this a good one or one that goes poof with your data within half a year ?
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> you can get a Samsung 970 Evo for 40€ on sale
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> cheap ones are usually reliable too, but can have high standby consumption, I measured up to 3W (vs. 0.1W for a Samsung 980)
-
moneromooo
That's basically mine. I paid like 10 times that two years ago :S
-
moneromooo
OK, not 10, but...
-
moneromooo
Wait. Was more like 5...

m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> will increasing ram , also necessary ?
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> currently ram usage seems ok
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> but i am getting high disk usage
-
m-relay
<ctrej:matrix.org> I am currently running a full node, and the entire system including remote desktop is taking just about 2GB. I'd say 4GB fine, and 8GB is enough for the foreseeable future
-
m-relay
<karano:poddery.com> currently my system just freezes on running monerod

<edge7:matrix.org> Breaking monero about mining pool. Can I sum up the above saying that the problem shows up when mining pools makes additional transactions (beyond the payout ones) as mining pool output are well known so if the decoys are just non pool output plus one, the non pool one can be identified as the real one and so 'tagged as used' and excluded in the future. This can be bad if this edg<clipped message>
