<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Mysu beta i2p is working again, polyseed, trusted node toggke, many more fixes and improvenents
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Im excited lol
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Get a room

<ofrnxmr:monero.social> 5⭐?
-
gingeropolous
i think the idea (well, an idea) of kovri was eventually baking into monero, so that everyone who runs a monero node would be running an i2p node
-
gingeropolous
because the problem with those networks is they are slow, and they are slow because not enough people run the nodes
-
gingeropolous
wait. is that why they are slow?
-
gingeropolous
.ai why is i2p slow?
-

i'll give *you* an account!

m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> yeah, but i2pd is light, fast, and easy af to install alongside.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> the dumb thing about having a private anon network, the endpoints are known. you can block i2p ports just like you can block monero ports
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> so.. that basicslly just hides the traffic, but not who is running them, which can be found monero.fail style
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I think bitcoin has a good way of handling things. Nodes with i2p or tor have to also have clearnet
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I2p or tor blockchain sync*
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> (i might be remembering wrong :/ )
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Either remembering wrong, or remembering old news
-
gingeropolous
"easy af" .... have you witnessed noobs using the monero GUI.... these folks aren't gonna get i2pd alongside
-
gingeropolous
wish it was like bisq. i always thought it was so cool how it just did tor for yah
-
gingeropolous
like bloop.... we're doin tor stuff so you can do your bisq stuff.
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Unless you have install options like bitcart
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Tor yes or no
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> -onlynet=onion Make automatic outbound connections only to .onion addresses.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Inbound and manual connections are not affected by this option.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> It can be specified multiple times to allow multiple networks,
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> e.g. onlynet=onion, onlynet=i2p, onlynet=cjdns.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Im not completely senile yet
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Easy afffff
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Dw ill fix up plowsof bash script and make her a 1clickr
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Also, termux node (unreleased haha) has i2pd and tor built into setup prompts
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Just yes yes yes ty done
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> (in laughing because im a slacker and its been like a year since i added it lolol)
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> What i2p ports? The proxy ports?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> No, the outbound port
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> It changes on each startup
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> Then it can't really be blocked right?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Inbound 🥴
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Inbound would be the problem i would say
-
m-relay
<ocean:matrix.thisisjoes.site> so --anonymous-inbound doesn't work 🤔
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Thats tx relay-only
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> I mean you dont need port forwarding for i2p
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Anon inbound broadcasts your onion address, so tx-proxy ppl have peers to relay to
-
m-relay
<ocean:matrix.thisisjoes.site> dang
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> You do, or upnp
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> We should holepuch to plowsof node
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> Mine works without? I can reach my b32.i2p
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> We should holepunch to plowsof node
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Maybe upnp?
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> CGNAT'ed too
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Hmm
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> upnp.enabledEnable or disable UPnP, false by default for CLI and true for GUI (Windows, Android)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> On my other i2pd, it has upnp working and shows "OK" and on my other device on my CGNAT network I got "Firewalled - symmetric NAT"
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> If you can reach other routers, you can be reached as far as I can tell
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Must do holepunch with introducer?
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> Definitely the introducer
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Ssu has a port too
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Or is that local
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ssu2.port
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Port to listen for incoming SSU2 connections (default: auto - 'port' from general section)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ```
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org>
geti2p.net/en/docs/ports
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> probably just like xmr.. you can make an outbound connection, and send AND receive traffic over it
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> But the limitation is that you can only make outbound connections to routers that have inbound enabled
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> So if nobody has inbound, nobody can connect to anybody
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Maybe ofrnxmr is needs to RTFM for a while. I might be wrong, but idk
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> Yolo
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> Tor does it similarly right? I dont have ports forwarded and I can reach my onion just fine as well
-
m-relay
<rails11326206827:matrix.org> Thats the beauty of i2p. I can install it on any device and expose a local service without any port forwarding. All private (and secret if needed)
-
m-relay
<endor00:matrix.org> Tor is different, because it has different types of nodes. If you just want to use the network, you can do so without relaying traffic for other people - you only need to make an outgoing connection to an entry node
-
m-relay
<endor00:matrix.org> In i2p, everybody is a relay
-
m-relay
<k4r4b3y:karapara.net> i2p's model is better imho.
-
m-relay
<k4r4b3y:karapara.net> we are the users. we are the bandwidth providers. we are the routers. we are the whole network.
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> we are one
-
m-relay
<k4r4b3y:karapara.net> it do be like that
-
gingeropolous
have there been any hard discussions on the next hardfork date? i want to get a new server for my seed node, so hoping to do it around a hard fork so i don't have to pay for both for too long
-
gingeropolous
i wonder if it'd be good to start another "cycle" as it were, where a hardfork happens every n months, so that the ecosystem gets practice in preparation for seraphis
-
tidux
Is there any workaround for slow sync on cake? I'm running my own pseudo-public node (inside a Wireguard mesh) which my phone is syncing from and it's still not syncing more than ~100 blocks/sec
-
lenny1337
cake has never worked for me so i think cake is just bad
-
tidux
ok
-
lenny1337
monero-wallet-cli loads in 30 seconds and cake doesn't load at all for me

gingeropolous nothing concrete yet
-
Inge
gingeropolous: and here we have just gotten used to laughing at people who claim Monero hardforks every 6 months
-
Guest9119
can anyone help me with this fatal error I'm getting: "Exception in main! Failed to initialize p2p server", I am trying to setup p2pool according to git readme instructions and can't even get monerod to run with 'zmq-pub' set. I am using v0.18.3.1-release in a docker container
-
Guest9119
the monerod options I am using (as per the p2pool git readme): "./monerod --zmq-pub tcp://127.0.0.1:18083 --out-peers 8 --in-peers 16 --add-priority-node=p2pmd.xmrvsbeast.com:18080 --add-priority-node=nodes.hashvault.pro:18080 --disable-dns-checkpoints --enable-dns-blocklist"
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Do you already have a daemon running
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Add `--log-level 1`
-
gingeropolous
Inge, the best part of that is that people think we hardforked every 6 months for PoW
-
Inge
didn't we though, a few times?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> We should start hard forking every 6 months, so that when seraphis comes, people just upgrade on schedule and dont even realize haha
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ../s maybe
-
m-relay
<gfdshygti53:monero.social> Sound good
-
m-relay
<123bob123:matrix.org> fork u!
-
gingeropolous
Inge, yeah a few times. but we were hardforking before the PoW hardforks, but critics never seem to know that
-
m-relay
<ranger_emdin:matrix.org> ok then is moneromerch.com a good website then. who runs it?
