<starlord:starlord.zip> It's OOTB Win 11. Wife bought it to impress me and then she never used it so I put a mine on there to run whenever she's not playing minesweeper. I don't know what huge pages is.

<ravfx:xmr.mx> You did disable Core Isolation stuff right?
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> then you have to run the xmrig in admin the first time then reboot (it's going to take care of setting up the huge pages afaik) then next time you should be able to run it as a user and have them available for you
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Turn that Memory integrity thing off if you want to mine.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Else everything run in a glorified isolation VM and xmrig won't be able to patch the CPU MSR and you are going to lose a lot of performance

<kjeks:matrix.org> RavFX: I thought for msr one needed to disable secure boot
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> non, just disable core isolation on Windows.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Secure boot don't prevent you from messing with MSRs afaik, but secure boot do because you loss access to direct CPU register manipulation (you mess with VM one and they don't forward MSR patching to real CPU)

<kjeks:matrix.org> Hmm, I tried to mine on a live boot and msr couldnt be enabled, i thought it was because of secureboot
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> If it was windows 11, it could have been core isolation stuff.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> I did mine with Windows in the past and I was getting about the same perf compared to linux assuming you disable the VM thing and run xmrig in root the first time to get the hugepages going
-
m-relay
<kjeks:matrix.org> it was linux mint on live usb
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> oh, that's different
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> did you also ran xmrig in root? I don't know what interface xmrig use for MSR it it's possible that : 1> You need msr kernel module stuff enabled, 2>You need root to manipulate said MSR
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> "1" might not be available on a live CD, I can't say, I just use live cd to install usually
-
m-relay
<kjeks:matrix.org> i was running in root
-
m-relay
<kjeks:matrix.org> any tips to enable msr kernel module stuff? heh
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> be sure you have MSR access in root
-
m-relay
<kjeks:matrix.org> or if you know any distro that can live boot with msr access
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> can't say, sorry.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> I don't use live except when I install said OS.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Maybe ask in #xmrmine:matrix.org
-
m-relay
<kjeks:matrix.org> I was using it on live usb so I don't mess with the system installed

<syntheticbird:monero.social> where im coming from people are often angry when something is handled by the gov because its handled badly. and in other countries people are not happy that private companies are having monopoly on some things. So really depend how you trust your gov at the task
-
m-relay
<cubanlynx12:hackliberty.org> yeah both gov handling and company handling have had some bad outcomes

Why need integration in whonix if you can just install a wallet? Whonix is persistent anyway...
