I did plan on getting a HAM license - then realized it was just not my cup of tea. Like, you have to deanon yourself and cannot combine it with cool stuff like encryption.

I like prctical usage of the technology more - I would think it would attract the more "cool", "lawless" type, but no. And I am a bit too scared to break the law to be a pirate)

Like, you're unlikely to get in trouble for this - but I don't know how soon the carrier or the real owner would disable it.

IMEI can be changed at least on some devices, seen threads on that, but the most straightforward - of course you'd want to use a secondhand or a "clean" phone.
