<kewbit:matrix.org> I did an eth txn like a few days ago was like $10. Not as bad as BTC last time I checked it was $230!! <<>> I overpaid for a recent btc tx at 65 cents which was a good thing as it was a 40+ minute block :D so it still got included
-
nioCat
montero tx was 1/2 cent
-
nioCat
btc is not backlogged now but ofc it can get that way and then ......

<alexandrahr:matrix.org> Is there any point to atomic swaps?
-
m-relay
<ammortel:monero.social> I think it's trustless
-
nioCat
good way to get tainted btc
-
m-relay
<dave.jp:matrix.org> If you have no access to cex, you would look at dex/atomic swaps
-
m-relay
<dave.jp:matrix.org> Only if xmr was worth more than those tainted btc 😅
-
m-relay
<alexandrahr:matrix.org> I bought them on a KYC exchange though 😥
-
m-relay
<alexandrahr:matrix.org> I'm crossing my fingers they won't get used for drugs and traced
-
nioCat
if you have cex btc then no problem
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> but the moment you exchange them, if they're used for illegal activities later on, lexie may be on the hook, no?
-
plowsof
if you a transparent coin with questionable history, or wish to transact in large amounts that would otherwise trigger AML alarms in most centralised services/exchanges then atomic swapping is an option. it would become a problem when clients can perform checks on the transparent coin they are getting in return for their monero.
-
plowsof
aaand we must not forget the whole trustless / anonymous thing which is another huge plus point
-
plowsof
brings us back to the 7?% mark up iirc that knowledgeable swap providers add on to their obtained coins (presumable they have to mix them)
-
plowsof
to make it sustainable and profitable

<preland:monero.social> A concern I’ve been thinking about for a while now—
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Imagine a future where Monero becomes acceptable in certain jurisdictions, but only under the condition that you provide your view key to the government. If enough users give their view key to the government, it will then significantly reduce the anonymity of the entire network.
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Thoughts?
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> isn't the introduction of fcmp going to increase the effective ring size from 16 to almost a million (or something like that)?
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> in that case, it shouldn't be much of an issue imo
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> could be wrong
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> I’ll have to check; if so then it wouldn’t be as big an issue
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Though if an entity were to have access to let’s say just 20% (would likely be more) of all outputs known for an extended period of time, it would reduce the amount
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Though even then you’d still have millions to guess from
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Tbh I should probably research more into what fcmp actually *is*
-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> It kinda seems like magic ngl

m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> this is my source... direct words from luke himself

-
m-relay
<preland:monero.social> Is there a testnet for fcmp currently?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> nicevps had all of their servers seized because of breachforums allegedely using them
-

<atori_0xbdc3ab4e:matrix.org> Does monero use encryption of RPC connections by default?
-
m-relay
<atori_0xbdc3ab4e:matrix.org> Is there a way to find out what the defaults are BTW when running monerod?
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> from my testing, `monerod` deploys SSL certificates for RPC automatically (self-signed certificates)
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> however, how you want to connect to the RPC is up to you
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> in my testing, I was able to invoke JSON RPC calls and sync my wallet through both HTTP and HTTPS
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> to use HTTPS, you have to explicitly mention it in the URL of the node, for example, 127.0.0.1:18089 will be using HTTP by default and
127.0.0.1:18089 will use HTTPS

<dufebo98:monero.social> The U.S. government has cracked down on the privacy wallet samourai wallet. Does Monero have similar risks?
-
m-relay
<dufebo98:monero.social> In fact, Monero is more suitable for money laundering than Bitcoin‘s coinjoin
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> monero, by design, is quite resilient to government crackdown imo
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> as long as internet and peer-to-peer isn't banned, monero should be working just fine
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> the worst I can think of is probably enforcing deep packet inspection through ISPs... but then, monero would change their packet structure and be fine
-
m-relay
<blax123:nope.chat> what about their domains?
