Plantfish
hi
-
Plantfish
I have a question about the sourcecode of monero on github monero/src/cryptonote(files), what are the uses of these files?
-
Plantfish
I know that cryptonote was a fork of bytecoin which has been used as a basis for monero
-
Plantfish
however since monero has evolved so much, I wonder what the purpose of these files are
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i think you may need to ask ai to clarify that statement
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The "i know that.." part
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> some guesses:
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> 1. even if monero evolved it still has to support everything that exists on the blockchain, that uses old cryptonote algorithms. Don't wanna end up in a situation where someone sleeps for a decade then comes back to their money becoming unspendable (i.e. gone)
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> 2. maybe things changed but the internal names didn't.
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> s/even if/even though/
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> All of them?
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> i go by many IP addresses.
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> (not really)

Plantfish: "I know that cryptonote was a fork of bytecoin which has been used as a basis for monero" Well, not exactly.
-
rbrunner
"CryptoNote" is the name of a technology. ByteCoin was the first cryptocurrency going life with that technology.
-
rbrunner
Monero forked from ByteCoin, like many other coins did around the same time. Almost all are not around anymore, however.
-
rbrunner
It's like root:kimapr.net said: A Monero daemon must be able to understand and verify for correctness and validity *all* Monero transactions ever done
-
rbrunner
And Monero still uses some aspects of CryptoNote, e.g. the 2-key sytem with spend key plus view key, and the address format.
-
rbrunner
Oh, I always forget, it's not "ByteCoin" with capital "C", it's "Bytecoin" ....
-
Infinity8
Is anyone else banned off #monero-pools for some reason?
-
Infinity8
Nvm, it's moved to Rizen apparently
-
m-relay
<rottenwheel:unredacted.org> Infinity8 everyone's banned. The channel was shut down by libera staff.
-
m-relay
<rottenwheel:unredacted.org> Yes, it's on Rizon now.

<moneromaster:matrix.org> A talk with Alaskanon on Financial Reformation. If Christians started to use Monero for missions it would greatly help with XMR adoption. If you know any Christians consider sharing this conversation with them

<googlemozilla:matrix.org> Don't pay attention to this person as they are trying to spread FUD and misinformation in this community in an attempt to dump the price of Monero after feeling salty that their privacy token was cracked in 10 minutes by kayaba.
-
m-relay
<googlemozilla:matrix.org> Monero isn't perfect. While there are vulnerabilities addressed in the Breaking Monero series, as well as recently reviewed by xenu's videos, none of these issues are catastrophic. What's truly concerning is the price of Dero, which is unfortunately approaching zero after its privacy was compromised.

plowsof, so your running an xmrchain instance and have lots of connections? whats the question?
-
plowsof
ah yes, because mine is not well known, and only stagenet, theres no reason for anyone to care to make so many connections
-
plowsof
feels like some background internet noise sniffing for xmrblock instances? for reasons unknown?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> When i ran stressnet explorer, there was a lot of ppl autoconnected 24/7
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i only ran it on onion, so dw, they all looked like localhost

<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Github actual warns that the maintainer of the repo will have access to your info

<syntheticbird:monero.social> Seems like NymVPN app just got released recently
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> gotta give NymNet a try
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Maybe they will take over the defunct Oxen/Lokinet
-
BlueyHealer
Defunct? Lokinet shut down?
-
BlueyHealer
Also, how can you shut something like this down?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Its run on crypto nodes that nobody runs
-
BlueyHealer
Ah, in that sense. I know that Session replaced them with another coin - so that was just for Session, not Lokinet in general?
-
BlueyHealer
Not really interested in the project because a normal person cannot run a node anyway. That's not Sybil protection, that's kind of the opposite.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Lokinet was oxen
-
BlueyHealer
Yes, I know. So Session moved to its coin without taking Lokinet with it?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> nah Session is still based on Lokinet
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Oxen is the new name of Loki, the original crypto used for Lokinet
-
m-relay
<root:kimapr.net> Isn't oxen gone or smth
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> not gone but no one uses it so dead in that sense
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> almost no nodes
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> updates are stalling

<17e:matrix.org> Hello. A little poll. What CPU do you use for mining and how much do you earn with it?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> r/moneromining for these questions
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> not off-topic just that people mining here are mainly not doing it for profit
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> also #monero-pools but I think it got banned
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> zero proof of work shown in the build up to that question
