<micheal72726377:matrix.org> so how do u purchase monero anonymously
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> Haveno,basicswap,mine
-
m-relay
<key_brolin:matrix.org> trocador, exolix, haveno. there are many options to buy monero without creating an account
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> hi
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> i need a monero wallet and to not wait 10 days for the wallet to sync
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> can anyone help me out
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> a fresh wallet will be ready to use in seconds. with the official GUI use simple mode or in advanced mode choose your own remote node. I also like feather for desktop
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> could be confusing "wallet to sync" with "node to sync" angelicvs , the above comment from Lyza will help if you mean "node to sync"
-
m-relay
<mark:chat.nicecrew.digital> As Lyza said if you don't use your own node and don't restore a wallet from low height it should be almost instantaneous. Creating a new wallet from [current height] at a remote node (already synched) is the quickest way
-
BlueyHealer
Even over Tor it's pretty quick for me.
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> yes thank you i was probably being imprecise. i am not sure how to do that with monero gui, however
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> it insists on syncing with the entire blockchain
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> ohhh you also mean with a remote node though
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> are the security risks worth it? seen some concerning things about monero remote nodes recently
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> depends what you are concerned about. You can use tor or a VPN to mask IP. I don't think e.g. poisoned outputs are a big concern. You can always use a a more well known / 'trusted' node or, feather wallet ships with a curated list of fairly trustworthy remote nodes, both clearnet and onion
-
m-relay
<mark:chat.nicecrew.digital> You can use a trusted node, use a vpn/Tor to not leak your IP, or make sure to not do something pretty illegal while using a remote note
-
m-relay
<mark:chat.nicecrew.digital> But having your own node is the best way to have a node you trust, obviously.
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> running your own node is a great idea, there's just no way to avoid the sync time
-
BlueyHealer
What I do with my XMR is very legal, and a drive for a local node would cost more than the balance in my wallet))) So using a remote for now.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Avoid simple mode
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Far more if you use simple mode
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> really? it's only 100-200 GB iirc
-
BlueyHealer
Still a few dozen dollars for a drive.
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> i do have some wallets on this computer, i just had to reinstall everything
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> if you decide to use a remote node, manually specify one that is run by someone (or some company) that you trust. Not a random one found via crawling (simple mode)
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> ah, i see haha
-
BlueyHealer
I do have a terabyte one, but it is an HDD.
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> would it be advisable to make a new wallet anyway though
-
BlueyHealer
ofrnxmr, yeah, you even just can choose in the preset list.
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> and yet, the GUI still defaults to simple mode doing exactly this D:
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> where could i find more info about trustworthy nodes, and what that strictly speaking even means haha
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Bluey, yeah. Feather has some "good" nodes, and also built-in tor
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Trustworthy means what it sounds like
-
BlueyHealer
Ye, I use this one
-
m-relay
-
BlueyHealer
I mean "trustworthy" as in you can recognize where it comes from and you know the source. And that the source is not in your jurisdiction)
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> from my perspective as someone overall unfamiliar with monero that's a hard qualification for me to assess
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I mean trustworthy as in "do you trust them?"
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> fair tbh
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> makes sense, thank you
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Even in feather i dont just use _any_ node from list (i use my own node tbh). But it i did use a node from the list, they arent all equal
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> Me*
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Only some of those nodes run the banlist, only some of them have tx-proxy (tor/i2p relaying), and only some offer onions
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> when all i know about a party is that they assert that they're "safe" that tends to incline me to believe they're not. not to contradict anyone here, just saying in general haha
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> i remember riseup.net
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> yeah that's why I try not to be like 'here use this specific node' -- it's tricky when someone is asking who to trust heh
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> ok i trust you
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> ill look into feather, thank you everyone
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> ugh actually the wallet is on a windows laptop. i can spin up a VM but honestly, if anyone has a well-known trusted node or list, i'd be obliged
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> dont need a vm
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> oh nevermind there is a windows installer
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> List herr
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> thank you!
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> hi! so i sent a few bucks to my feather wallet via remote node, and nothing yet.
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> the wallet on feather is syncing as well, i don't know why
-
m-relay
<angelicvs:matrix.org> 82 confirmations
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> recipient wallet is still syncing?
