m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> hi, I am syncing my monero GUI and its taking forever any tips to make it faster?
-
moneromooo
Use a SSD to hold your blockchain.
-
moneromooo
If you never mined, set your wallet to ignore coinbase txes (though this really only matters for early chain data).
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> how do I do that, also I just realized I never updated my GUI does it need manual updates?
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> version 0.18.3.3
-
moneromooo
Make sure your "refresh-from-block-height" (or similarly named) is set right before when you first used your wallet.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yes, needs manual updates
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 18.3.4 is the current release
-
moneromooo
IIRC the GUI tells you when an update is available, but doesn't update automatically.
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> I just put 2024 because I dont remember
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> link to monero site please?

-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> In my testing, the upcoming release (18.4.0) is much faster than 18.3,4
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> does this mean I need to make block height way smaller?
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> sorry I mean bigger
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> I had many TXs im looking for my history rn
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> how do I move it to SSD
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> dont need it on ssd
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It says your daemon (or the one you are connected to) is synced
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It has 480k blocks left to sync for the _wallet_ (not node). The thats about 2 years of blocks
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Are you intentionally syncing back to beginning of 2023?
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> yes
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> im actually changing it to 2022, I need my full history
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Ok, thenbyeah. Just wait it out
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> am I cooked?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> No
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Will speed through the first 2.8m

<rucknium:monero.social> Goatskey: Are you using a local node on your own machine or a remote node?
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> how do I know?
-
m-relay
<rucknium:monero.social> Goatskey: Settings --> Info. Then look at Wallet mode. If it is "Simple", then you are using a remote node. If you are using a remote node, you don't save the blockchain to your computer, so the choice between a SSD/HDD doesn't matter. If you are using a remote node, probably there is nothing you can do to speed up your sync.
-
m-relay
<orion_midast:matrix.org> simple yes
-
plowsof
Follow steps here to change to advanced mode
getmonero.org/resources/user-guides/remote_node_gui.html you can then choose the node you connect to

Is antimoonboy in here somewhere?
-
jamaljr6000
I heard he's contemplating a dualboot with Windoze to use ableton, just want to say he should checkout Bitwig instead (
