Use a SSD to hold your blockchain.

If you never mined, set your wallet to ignore coinbase txes (though this really only matters for early chain data).

If you are using a remote node, you don't save the blockchain to your computer, so the choice between a SSD/HDD doesn't matter. If you are using a remote node, probably there is nothing you can do to speed up your sync.
