<gug68hes:matrix.org> I tried using the Cake Wallet on iOS. Where should I get Monero from, and how can I deposit Monero into the wallet?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> do you know how to get any other crypto?
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> no
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Are you looking to buy XMR using fiat currency or any other crypto currency?
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> im new in crypto
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> If you have access to a laptop, you can buy XMR on Haveno exchange.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> If you are new to crypto, it may be better to first buy USDT on Binance/Bybit/BingX.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Then use the USDT to buy Bitcoin. Withdraw Bitcoin to Muun wallet.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Then swap the Bitcoin to XMR on Cake wallet.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> In some countries you can buy Bitcoin directly in Cake wallet.
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> exchange?
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> Can XMR still be obtained through mining now?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Not usdt
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Are you looking to buy using US dollars, Indian Rupees, GBP or any other fiat currency?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Everything here from usdt is convoluted. Ignore
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ignore bitcoin lightning, muun wallet, and all of that waste of time
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> In some countries you can only buy USDT using fiat. You cannot directly buy Monero.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Also ignore bitcoin. Expensive, slow, and highly scrutinized
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Buy whatever you want on the exchange, if you can buy litecoin directly, buy litecoin
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> You cannot. You will first need USDT.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> says who?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> kraken for example has a usd/xmr pair
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> you can buy xmr (and many other coins) on kraken
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Says me. On some exchanges you get the option to buy BTC using fiat but the premium is very high.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Kraken is not available everywhere.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> If you have USD you can buy on Haveno.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Usdt-only, what exchanges do that?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You can buy btc directly on, afaik, most if not all of them
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Name an exchange that only has usdt available for purchase? And that doesnt also have btc or ltc availabke for fiat?
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> I can buy Bitcoin on Binance using INR but the premium is over 20%. Earning 20% is not easy.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> but you can buy ltc (using usdt)on binance at 0.1%? And cant buy ltc directly?
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Yes. This because the P2P sellers only want to sell USDT.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> They have a clear earning while selling USDT. They have a 5% markup.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Nobody is talking about p2p
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> were talking about buying from the cex
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> if were talking about p2p, why even go through binance? Skip it and go straight to haveno
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> You can only buy on exchanges using P2P. Reserve Bank of India does not allow payments to Binance/Bybit/Coinbase etc.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> We cannot go to Haveno. There are no sellers in INR.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> is @666 in india?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If not, then your restrictions dont at all apply to this conversation
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @666 *
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> That's why I asked him. It's the same in most countries. Haveno only has sellers in a few currencies.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> most countries can buy btc/ltc/etc directly from the cex
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> India is an exception
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> In north america, most of the population can buy many coins directly from kraken, coinbase etc
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> In non-usa, many can buy directly from mexc, kucoin, or even noones
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Kraken still services europe, just not for xmr
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If youre in russia, china, or india, then you might to use need something else
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> in order of fastest / easiest
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> A) buy xmr directly from a cex like kraken
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> B) buy ltc directly from a cex like kraken/kucoin/binance -> withdraw it to cake wallet -> swap it for xmr using cake wallet, trocador.app, or orangefren.com
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> C) buy xmr directly from haveno
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> D) do B but buy btc and then swap it to xmr using unstoppableswaps atomic swaps (some setup required)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> E) do B but swap the ltc -> xmr using basicswap atomic swaps (some technical knowledge required)
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> I’m not, I’m Japanese.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Just download Binance app and check if you are able to buy Bitcoin/Litecoin/USDT on it. Before placing any orders make sure to check the conversion rate.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> I think you should be able to buy USDT directly from Binance Japan.
-
NorrinRadd
gug68hes there might be offers to buy bitcoin using your fiat currency on robosats or bisq. I cringe whenever I see people recommend kyc services. You can try moonpay and cake wallet as well.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i didnt recommend anything
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You just said to try moonpay, isnt that kyc
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 🪞
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 🍲🫖
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Japan has banned exchanges from selling xmr. You will have to purchase crypto (ltc, btc) and then swap it to xmr. Option a) wont work for you. All of the other options do
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> and quite honestly, norrinradd, if someone doesnt care about kycing, then there is 0 problems with them putting buy pressure on a cex. Without cex buyers, were just allowing cex's to accumulate xmr. Of course, i wouldnt suggest for anyone to sell xmr TO a cex
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If kyc is an issue, then you have
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> A) haveno (direct xmr, desktop app)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> B) bisq (direct btc -> trade for xmr, desktop app)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> C) robosats (has a mobile app)
-
NorrinRadd
wasn't talking about yo uq
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The shoe fit tho :P
-
NorrinRadd
literally don't remember what you said. I was talking about the reference to binance
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> what is kyc?
-
NorrinRadd
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> Real-name authentication?
-
m-relay
<gug68hes:matrix.org> Can XMR still be obtained through mining now?
-
NorrinRadd
gug68hes very slowly
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Slowly but not if you have botnet
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> 8 coins a day this hashrate produces from my calculations
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> (Not my screenshot)
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> How is this achievable? Some suoer computer with an AMD thread ripper?
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> How is this achievable? Some super computer with an AMD thread ripper?
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Quantum computer
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Just kidding
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Idk, it is botnet using home pcs afaik
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Idk, it is botnet out of home pcs afaik
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Maybe 0.8
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 60k kh isnt getting you 8xmr per day
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Or 0.08
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> No, it’s not 60 Khs it’s 60.000 khs
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> It’s 60mhs
-
m-relay
<elongated:matrix.org> Even that won’t get you 8xmr/day
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Yea you will get it with 72mhs 24/7, my bad
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> But I guess this hashrate can achieve 5 xmr a day
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> But as we know botnet hashrate isn’t stable and looks like nanopool hashrate graph =)
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Man i need some of this in my life..
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Old machine i could use is a 2013 amd Samsung laptop.. probably achievable os 0.000001 xmr per week
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> *SIGH*
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Yea you see guy from screenshot hash 53k miners connected, maybe they all yield a little bit of hashrate but all together it’s a huge number
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> A lot of stale shares there
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> A good peace of monerooceans pool whole hashrate
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Yea I told this guy the same
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> Told him to lower diff but I think it didn’t helped him
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Lowering diff wont change anything
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Probably make it worse
-
m-relay
<x3cc:nope.chat> So what would help him get less stale shares?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> solomine instead of directing it to a pool
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> In some countries it is not possible to avoid KYC. NO-KYC services don't buy crypto. So when you want to sell, you have to go to a KYC enabled CEX and you are marked as a suspicious account as your crypto cannot be traced back to a KYC completed source.
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Haveno, Bisq etc. do not have many currencies and they are also not easy to use. As of now, in most countries the easiest way to convert fiat-crypto and vice versa are centralized exchanges like Binance.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> to submit the shares directly to the node + And using the full difficulty to lower the latency of sending new jobs often
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Use haveno / bisq when you want to sell 🤯
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> There will never be liquidity if you all just make excuses to avoid using the services.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I have not used a kyc cex in at least 2 years, maybe 4 or 5
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Even though i technically can, i get much higher value for my xmr if i sell on not-a-cex
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Just as an off ramp?
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> There is a reason why there is no liquidity on these exchanges in India. If I sell on these exchanges, the very next day my bank account will be frozen. Other payment methods like cash by mail are not really very desirable.
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> Is there some effective way to make a monero node to output a message in the user's wallet? i want to insult people who try to connect to my node via clearnet
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Do you purchase, for example, LTC to trade for XMR - or do you buy XMR by other methods.
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Im genuinely interested as i would love to learn how to move away from CEX even though it is for LTC purchase
-
m-relay
<elongated:matrix.org> The reason is ppl doing cash txs don’t use dex, go find a local crypto dealer
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Can you not password a clearnet monero node?
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> Are you asking me to remove password from my current tor-only node or are you suggesting to insult people via the password prompt?
-
m-relay
<themisplacedphilosopher:matrix.org> Well, I have some reliable traders that I trade with. I identified them on centralized exchanges and connected with them on WhatsApp. Initially I had to use CEX.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Sounds like u have a problem w dealing with shit ppl
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> > trades monero via chat that has flawed E2EE encryption
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> why not just use bitcoin at that point
-
m-relay
<void.cc:mozilla.org> why you don't want ppl to use clearnet version of your node?
-
m-relay
<elongated:matrix.org> Bcoz taint is risky
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> I recommend SimpleX-only via a lineageOS phone without google services with invizible from neostore that makes sure that simplex is not routing traffic via clearweb and disable link previews as it leaks IPs
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Haha i am just wondering if it is possible to password your clear net node?
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Therefore, not having randoms connect to your node, as well as not having to insult anyone for doing so 😅
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> i want to provide a non-functioning node that spreads awareness about the stuff i have mentioned in the README of nixium
github.com/arcanyx-org/nixium?tab=readme-ov-file#monero-node so that people don't end up vulnerable to chainlysis deanonymization attacks
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Ya, simplex leaking via link previews is sus
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> you can password a node yes
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> but mine is a public service
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> it's not simplex it's anroid webview and no good way to fix it reliably
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> *android
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Its simplex
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> thus lineageOS and making sure you use sane webview that respects tor
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> if you don't like upstream then run your own server
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> or contribute that to nixos and imma deploy that for you
-
m-relay
<void.cc:mozilla.org> it's true but checking balance is safe using spy node, only sending using spy node is vulnerable
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Can do link previews like element - load the preview on the server
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> So i am assuming a public node can not be protected with a password, to allow people of your choice to be able to connect?
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Apologizes for the questions.. I'm here to learn!
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> i don't consider anything safe on compromised node and encourage people to run their own node instead, but it's not an option for everyone thus why i provide it publicly
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The issue is that the link preview bypasses the socks proxy. Even my twitter link previews dont
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> public node can be protected with password here is a configuration including the tor-only settings go host one yourself:
github.com/Arcanyx-org/NiXium/blob/…machines/mracek/services/monero.nix
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 1 password rules all of the rpc endpoints
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> inviziblePro/webview bug not much simplex can do about it and they document this being an issue
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> you can try to patch it but it's kinda weak way of fixing this issue
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> I have saved your link for a read in the not too distant future.
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Thank you for the source.
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> feel free to ask anything relevant i do my best to answer
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> if you find an issue in my config then also please let me know so that i can fix it, that node is used by a lot of people
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If i force simplex over tor using inviz, it includes link previews afaik
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> no, invizible doesn't handles that well i should mention that in the readme
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> and file a bug
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Im afraid I won't be much help in regards to finding issues in the config.
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Unfortunately i'm not as clued up as you guys and i am doing my best to educate myself with the help of this channel.
-
m-relay
<5m5z3q888q5prxkg:chat.lightnovel-dungeon.de> the link previews bypass the inviziblepro setting as it's doing the link previews via webview and android is stupid and doesn't respect it's own implementation for proxy

hi

m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Random question here.
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Old device is kaput, luckily got a spare.
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> When I sign in it tells me 'unable to verify device - you won't be able to access encrypted message history. Reset your secure message backup and verification keys to start fresh'
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> I done this many many moons ago and ended up with a green shield. Now I never ever see anyone else with a green shield (to show verified device)
-
m-relay
<xmrpatchwork:matrix.org> Does no one really back up keys or what ever?
-
m-relay
<17lifers:matrix.org> nope, aint bothering juggling with keys lol
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> You should be using a server-side backup secured with what is called a "recovery key" in the Matrix specification (historically also "security key" or "security phrase"). This keeps an encrypted copy of a session key on the server, only decryptable with the recovery key.
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> The reason you don't see anyone with a green shield is because you need to re-verify them, because your new session wasn't able I believe authorised by a previous existing session (either your old device or the recovery key).
-

<barbell5589:matrix.org> hello
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> I've downloaded Haveno (reto swap), and tried to buy Monero
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> but it wants me to deposit Monero to buy Monero?!?! Which defeats the whole purpose??
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> What am I doing/thinking wrongly here lol?
-
m-relay
<freddi99:matrix.org> afaik you can make a safety deposit with PayPal or sepa, right?
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> I only want to buy about $20 worth. I want to make a completely anonymous donation to something
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> it feels like i'm being slowed down or pushed back
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> at every stage
-
m-relay
<ct:xmr.mx> yeah that why the "get your first monero" room exists 🙃
-
m-relay
<ct:xmr.mx> afaik haveno now supports small amounts without deposit. With higher risk sellers may tale higher fees, so its better to hold on to some
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> the software isn't very intuative, it wants me to specify the amount BOTH in XMR and GBP simultaneously
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> shouldn't it be one or the other?
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> its indicating it has to be in XMR, not FIAT

<jivan:opaline.uk> Unfortunately, this is just the state of things these days, since regulation has crept in more and more over the years. About 10 years ago, it used to be easier. LocalBitcoins only started requiring KYC in 2018 or 2019, I believe; I certainly used it before that without needing to provide ID.

<barbell5589:matrix.org> Its a shame, because making a little £20 donation to something is how someone like me begins using it more. I.E., get my feet wet
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> my plan was: FIAT > Monero > Eth/Sol (or something low fee)

<jivan:opaline.uk> Robosats is another decent option, but like Bisq, it's Bitcoin-only in principle, so you have to use Bitcoin as a go-between if you want Monero. People there will let you buy/sell Bitcoin for Monero, so you don't have to go off-platform for that part.

m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> yeah but for a £20 donation i'd be spending $70 in fees
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> Haha, wouldn't be that high, but I appreciate the sentiment
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> on BTC? these days? its quite high
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> It really isn't
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> Even on-chain, it's like 300 sats
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> ahh yeah i just looked, $1.27 currently... don't know where i got that from lol
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> maybe i looked during a bad time
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> It does have periods of high demand, and thus high fees
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> great so I can do XMR --> BTC
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> But Lightning is pretty solid these days. There's still the liquidity issue, but for most people and most use cases, it just works.
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> just need to get the XMR. i only want $25 ish
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> about £20 in my money

<jivan:opaline.uk> I'm also in the UK. Perhaps we could do an exchange anonymously on your end? Coincidentally, I have about £70 of Monero that I want to sell.
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> sure
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> I mean, if we do bank transfer or PayPal or whatever, I'll know the name on the account you're sending from, but the Monero side will be anonymous. Depends what you're comfortable with.
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> yeah thats fine
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> I'll DM you my details then. Happy to send you half the XMR, then you send me the GBP, then I send you the rest of the XMR.
-
m-relay
<barbell5589:matrix.org> yeah that sounds excellent
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> Do you know the exact amount of XMR you want/need?
-
m-relay
<jivan:opaline.uk> Woops, wrong chat
