<thorstenscherbaum:matrix.org> Dear XMR-community
-
m-relay
<thorstenscherbaum:matrix.org> Can anybody recommend a physical credit card for anonymously (no KYC) paying groceries or other goods using XMR?
-
m-relay
<ct:xmr.mx> There are no non-KYC credit cards. You can get visa/mastercard gift cards that are accepted at many stores.
-
m-relay
<ct:xmr.mx> Note that you can't use a VPN/TOR when getting and using such a card, the card may be terminated without reason and because they have a fixed amount on them is likely you have some money left over.

<user0751:tchncs.de> I am currently running my own monero node in an old thinkpad and connect to it over a onion servixe on my personal laptop. But in case of a failure (corruption of the blockchain, internet connection problems etc.) i want to backup my node in a LUKS encrypted external SSD. Copying lmdb/ directory inside ~/.bitmonero to SSD is enough? Do i need to create new keys? Do you have any su<clipped message>

<user0751:tchncs.de> ggestions about backing up a monero node?

I think that lmdv/ would be enough, but copy all ~/.bitmonero to be sure

s/dv/db/

m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The lmdb is enough
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You might not want to copy the ssl keys, logs, etc. lmdb will copy only blockchain
-
m-relay
<user0751:tchncs.de> Thank you. Do you have a similar backup plan? Can you share your setup?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i dont
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Can probably run a cron job like
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> `0 0 */7 * * [stop monerod] && cp -r /path/to/lmdb/* /path/to/backup/. ; [start monerod]`
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Stop and start monerod depending on hlow you run it, like `systemctl stop monerod` if using systemd, or just `pkill monerod` if running manually

<syntheticbird:monero.social> hello

m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> why is your name a discord server link ?
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> To release state secrets on
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> of course it won't hurt to encrypt, but the blockchain database is public data so having it encrypted doesn't serve a purpose either
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> I think main use case of encryption is to hiding the type of information beyond restricting its access. I would be shy to say that my ssd contain monero blockchain for example.
