is there a way to run multiple nodes using a single lmdb/ dir?

i tried making a read-only mount of .bitmonero with a writeable overlay for everything except lmdb, but it just hangs

Running more than one node off one lmdb file is theoretically possible. It should cause no issues, but I doubt it was tested much, so report anything bad happening if it does.
