DaveFreeman
hello team
-
DaveFreeman
i have a question about acquiring monero. anyone available to chat
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> always
-
DaveFreeman
Hey folks, I've been wanting to buy XMR but I'm not sure if I should purchase XMR with crypto I've purchased from a CEX. I'm concerned my CEX account can get flagged I'm using swap services on my main crypto address
-
DaveFreeman
Am I being overly cautious?
-
Cindy
you should
-
Cindy
move the crypto out of your CEX then do the swap
-
Cindy
CEX companies are known to freeze your account immediately and ask questions later in cases of "suspicious activities"
-
DaveFreeman
its out of the CEX, but my crypto address is certainly linked with my account.
-
DaveFreeman
I have Ether for context
-
DaveFreeman
and small (really tiny) amounts
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Id use something aside from cex eth
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> like ltc or btc, since at least those have rotating addresses
-
br-m
<kiersten5821:matrix.org> how would that make any difference, they still know the addresses are his
-
DaveFreeman
hmmm so its even worse to use ETH than BTC?
-
Guest69
safe bet XMR -> USDT
-
DaveFreeman
feel like thats even worse lol
-
DaveFreeman
using a ERC20 token?
-
Guest69
nopes
-
Guest69
bsc token
-
DaveFreeman
ahh I've yet to use bsc
-
DaveFreeman
isnt it just another evm?
-
Guest69
cheaper on the gas and lot ffaster
-
Guest69
yes
-
DaveFreeman
sure but is there any improvement to anonymity or privacy to making a transaction like this? (which honestly fuck the feds for making such a basic thing difficult)
-
Guest69
sure it does
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yes > <DaveFreeman> hmmm so its even worse to use ETH than BTC?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Eth wallets have a single address with all funds flowing thru them
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You can create accounts, but youd still be using tje same static addresses repeatedly
-
DaveFreeman
I see I didn't know it was different for BTC. Thanks for the heads up
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If you withdraw to youe btc address then send it to a new random address, the cex cant be sure that the new addresses are yours
-
DaveFreeman
thats not perfect, but definitely better than ETH
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> With eth, you end up using the same addresses repeatedly.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Currently most cexes dont really care what you do with the funds after you withdraw them to self custody, but coinbase has flagged accounts for sending funds to bisq or darknet markets after you took custody of it
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> but you can always just use an atomic swap like eigenwallet or basicswap if youre converting btc or ltc to xmr, respectively
-
DaveFreeman
Yeah I guess I'm concerned they'll eventually crack down on XMR users in the future, since they have a ledger of transactions it should be fairly easy.
-
Guest69
br-m got a question though...what if you swap using a monero wallet and then push it off chain, nobody cares
-
DaveFreeman
Its more of I didn't want to flag my ether address that has all my defi stuff etc to the irs etc
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Xmr is private. They dont have a clue what you did with your btc
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> They knkw you sent a btc transfer, they dont know you bought xmr
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> DaveFreeman: Yeah, so i wouldnt use kt
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Id use the cex to convert the eth to btc or ltc
-
DaveFreeman
When you do the atomic swap on BTC, can they tell your doing a swap?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Then swap the btc or ltc to xmr
-
Guest69
br-m i am thinking the other way round xmr -> btc
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Depends where you get the btc
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> There are plenty of centralized swappers (like fixedfloat or changenow) that only hold clean btc, so you should be ok there, as long as they accept xmr
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Otherwise you use something like retoswap or basicswap to convert the xmr to btc, and risk getting dirty btc
-
DaveFreeman
Yeah that was my intent
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Or use ltc and run it thru mweb first to try to break whatever link it had to the previous owner
-
Guest69
planning to use stack wallet to do the initial swap & then move it offchain
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> Multiple hops after mweb or else txs will be suspicious
-
Guest69
so you mean to say convert it to LTC and then do multiple hops?
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> Guest69: After mweb
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> Why would you swap xmr though?
-
Guest69
need to encash, private reasons
-
Guest69
LTC on ltc network or BSC network?
-
Guest69
the wallet i am trying to use doesnt support mweb
-
Guest69
point me to an wallet that supports mweb
-
Guest69
is there a private pool to swap the XMR to LTC using mweb
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> Guest69: cakewallet , nexus wallet
-
Guest69
cake wallet doesnt support mweb
-
Guest69
i mean they have vendors but not available in my geo
-
Guest69
see my preferred path to encash to Tether on BSC chain, is there any way to go about this
-
Guest69
specially if there exists a pool to feed in, XMR feed in USDT(BSC) feed out
-
Guest69
if i could tap into that pool feed
-
Guest69
it would be cleaner, faster and gas efficient on all sides
-
Guest69
nexus wallet doesnt help my cause
-
Guest69
or a privaye buyer looking for xmr might help
-
br-m
<mrslab:tchncs.de> I've seen some good offers on retoswap at the current price
-
br-m
-
Guest69
-
Guest69
retoswap might work
-
Guest69
checking it
-
br-m
<mrslab:tchncs.de> You can try their new phone app if you're on android, It worked as expected so far for me
-
br-m
<mrslab:tchncs.de> If you don't find any suitable offers for you, you could just create one and keep the app in the background
-
Guest69
okay
-
Guest69
i dont see options for USDT(BEP20)
-
br-m
<demycode:mehdibekhtaoui.com> I put a + on retoswap
