hello, anyone knows something about crypto in latvia/riga? searching for companies who accept crypto/xmr and/or searching for p2p trades maybe. thx
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> btcdwed: Veesp do
-
btcdwed
thx ravfx, but i am in riga this week and i am looking for spending crypto at the city

<ravfx:xmr.mx> Oh, have fun then!
-
btcdwed
thx :P
-
plowsof
maybe Stnby / Siren know?
-
btcdwed
never heard of both
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> You don't spend enough time on the chat!
-
btcdwed
sorry :P

-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> Quick search and it seems to accept BTC LN.
-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> Maybe you would be able to brainwash them to do XMR
-
btcdwed
hello stnby :P
-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> btcdwed: If you take a train to Vilnius I can maybe trade you some cash to XMR
-
btcdwed
my friend is coming vom vilnius to riga, fuack :D
-
btcdwed
are you in other channels too, or only here stnby?
-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> Any events happening in Riga?
-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> btcdwed: Most of the channels I am in

btcdwed
we just going there with 5 boys, one had bday
-
btcdwed
his wife is from vilnius
-
btcdwed
but we are all friends living in .de
-
br-m
<stnby:kernal.eu> You can give
solanabaltics.com a shot. There are some crypto people in Riga as well. And not particularly ones only interested in scamming people with SOL.

btcdwed
:) thank you

<isaac_newton:matrix.org> Do you guys prefer dashes or underscores
-
br-m
<thomasbuilds:matrix.org> everyone here loves em dashes ofc
-
br-m
<isaac_newton:matrix.org> That's what I suspected, I'm on the wrong side of the tracks
-
br-m
<isaac_newton:matrix.org> I think Torvalds prefers underscores tho

recpar
the daemon keeps throwing me "bad malloc" errors, but only once the chain is like. >97% synced
-
recpar
no corresponding errors in dmesg, my RAM (8gb) and disk (500gb) were both checked separately and are free of hardware faults afaict. this has happened on multiple different drives, across multiple different syncs, and even after manually exporting the chain from my old node and importing it to the new one. without fail, monerod throws bad mallocs once the chain is up to a few months ago
-
recpar
it's stopping sync cold and preventing the node from working so i can't decommission my old one.
-
recpar
any ideas?
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Is it using too much memory?
-
recpar
idts, watching htop concurrently and it looks like it's only ever using about 3-4 gigs at peak. and no other services running on the machine except tor
-
selsta
recpar: OS/CPU architecture? disk file system? latest monerod?
-
recpar
arch, x86 (7th gen i3), ext4, yes latest monerod
-
selsta
binary from package manager, or from getmonero?
-
recpar
i've tried both, same error each time
-
recpar
also tried building myself, same issue
-
recpar
it's been an irksome couple weeks lol
-
selsta
can you start with log level 2 and share 30 log lines before and after that malloc issue?
-
recpar
yup
-
selsta
3706880 is the last checkpoint, does the issue happen before or after that height?
-
recpar
lemme look
-
recpar
right after that checkpoint it looks like
-
recpar
gonna do log level 2 now, was just lessing through the old logs for that
-
selsta
You can also try with `--block-sync-size 1 --prep-blocks-threads 1` after the logs to see if it continues.
-
selsta
right I did not ask yet, do you have an obscure config?
-
recpar
no not really, just TOR
-
selsta
setting parameters too high?
-
recpar
they're left at defaults for the most part
-
selsta
with --tx-proxy, --proxy or some external tool like torsocks for Tor?
-
recpar
the former
-
recpar
p2p bind to localhost, in-peers and out-peers limited for resource reasons but both reasonable values
-
recpar
i set dv sync mode to safe as well this morning to see if it'd help, no dice
-
recpar
db*
-
recpar
and have been using xmr since 2017 fwiw
-
selsta
it must be something non obvious since we did not get any other reports about this
-
» moneromooo leaving now but suggests checking cusom OS config like memory quotas, jails, etc.
-
selsta
yes I was about to suggest that next
-
selsta
do you use systemd to run monerod?
-
selsta
and did you set things like MemoryDenyWriteExecute?
-
recpar
right after loading lmdb checkpoints the error hit. lemme get the logs into a pastebin
-
moneromooo
And valgrind, since it seems to be failing fast now.
-
recpar
ohh, looks like large pages failing
-
selsta
should still continue with large pages failing
-
selsta
does starting monerod with MONERO_RANDOMX_UMASK=8 work?
-
recpar
i'll try now
-
recpar
-
recpar
log level 2 ^
-
selsta
nothing in the logs so far
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Using master?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Db percent used > than threshold, so it should be about to do a resize
-
recpar
it was doing resizes fine before. and the rx umask did not fix it @selsta
-
selsta
this rules out JIT related issues
-
recpar
ofrnxmr: have tried binaries from OS package manager, getmonero, and self-compiled. all same issue
-
selsta
I would try to sync without `--proxy` to rule out Tor related network issues as the next step.
-
selsta
downloading gigabytes of blocks over Tor is likely slow
-
recpar
i have already tried that, same issues
-
recpar
first two syncs trying to get this node up were over clearnet last month
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> the resize could be a red herring, but ive had segfaults and such over failed resizes. and from my experiences, only master would let you get to the threshold before the resize, and release will resize by far more than necessary
-
selsta
for next step I need more log lines, they did not show enough, like 500
-
selsta
or 1000
-
selsta
and also a sync_info output
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> so the 90% makes me think this was synced to current height using master, and its strange that the log doesnt show an attempt to resize, since it should
-
recpar
i synced to current height with release a few times, but this specific copy this time is synced via blockchain-import from my old node (the one i am trying to replace with this one) because i wanted to see if that'd circumvent the bad alloc.
-
selsta
bad_alloc is unrelated, it's not the issue here
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> .. also worth a shot, is testing a fresh sync ./monerod --data-dir=no-checkpoints --fast-block-sync=0 --log-level=2 to see if that dies much earlier
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> But try selsta suggestions first, im juat shooting in the dark
-
recpar
it looks like the chain import has resulted in the same bad alloc errors BUT now the sync is continuing anyways?
-
recpar
about 50 blocks/min
-
recpar
this was not true previously, filtering for "Synced" in the logs would yield nothing after the bad allocs, but now i'm seeing continued progress even after. so i am gonna wait for sync to finish before bothering y'all more :)
-
selsta
I'd remove Tor, you are getting bandwidth throttled
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Oh, wait. The node stopped syncing but didnt crash?
-
recpar
correct
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> sync_info output in that state tells the story there
-
recpar
selsta i'm <10k blocks behind so it barely matters, and i have other stuff to do today anways
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> next time it stops, run sync_info and upload to paste plz & thx
-
recpar
will do, tysm for y'all's help
-
urnik
hello, i am mining with very low hash rate, for about a week straight, is there any chance of gaining moneroj???
-
palinuro
urnik how much time do you have?
-
urnik
p.s. i am newbie
-
palinuro
it may take months
-
urnik
i use p2pool mini and xmrig
-
plowsof
there is p2pool nano for even smaller hashrates
-
plowsof
there are some p2pool rooms on here lik #p2pool-log
-
palinuro
oh ok, so you aren't solo mining. with a pool is way easier and all depends on the average success rate of that specific pool
-
urnik
yea i saw that, i think is more appropriate for my rate
-
palinuro
look at their website and check if they publish any statistics
-
urnik
i am in #p2pool-mini
-
plowsof
ah okay nice

<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> Hi, do you know a reliable way I can buy Monero (p2p) then transfer it to my personal wallet from Philippines?
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Buy another coin and swap it into Monero using Haveno/Trocador/etc.
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org>
coinatmradar.com
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> ^ You can often purchase BTC/LTC with cash at an ATM
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> will this approach work via binance? I have binance acc, tho binance is blocked in the ph, so we just use VPN
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Sure, as long as you have some way to acquire another coin. After that, it's pretty easy to swap to XMR
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> @jpk68:matrix.org: have you tried it? You think binance will allow me to withdraw/transfer XMR to my personal wallet?
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> No, that's not what I'm saying. You can purchase a different coin, like Bitcoin, withdraw that to your personal wallet, and then swap it for XMR (not in Binance).
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> As always, please follow all the local laws in your jurisdiction ;)
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> @jpk68:matrix.org: ok, because I'm thinking to receive Monero using the GUI wallet.
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> So what kind of wallet do you recommend? one that can receive bitcoin/usdt and convert it to Monero?
-
br-m
<yahniukov:matrix.yahniukov.com> @zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org: Fiat -> binance usdc -> cake wallet polygon usdc -> swap via trocador to cake wallet monero (-> optionally send received monero to another monero wallet - this way money will be practically untraceable)
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> @zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org: 1. Purchase Bitcoin on Binance
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> 2. Download the Monero GUI and create a new wallet
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> 3. Send Bitcoin to Trocador, who will then send Monero to your wallet in exchange
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> The route suggested by the other guy above could work as well :)
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> ok, thanks thanks, will try this
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @yahniukov:matrix.yahniukov.com: this involves holding a bunch of coins to pay gas
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> just use btc or ltc ..
