Just realized we haven't had Community Workgroup meeting in like 4 weeks. Should I create one for this weekend or next?
-
phillip[m]
Coming from someone who has never been in a workgroup yet but is really looking forward to joining one, this weekend is hard for me with Halloween plans. So, with the little weight behing my voice, I vote for next weekend

I created/moderated a few community/dev meetings but unfortunately I've had some very busy weekends recently, including this coming weekend. Am I wrong in thinking that people are generally more available mon-thur for these sorts of things? I guess different timezones and working patterns throw a spanner in the works on those days

If the meetings in this channel are mostly being used for CCS discussion, it might be better to that in a more ad-hoc way by posting discussion threads on reddit or forum.Monero.space, or even just starting a convo about a specific proposal in this channel at any time
-
carrington[m]
For example, does anyone have strong opinions about the "Monero Community Anthem" and "Italian Mastering Monero" proposals?
-
carrington[m]
I think Ruck's proposal is awaiting a document release and the dev proposal by mj is likely uncontroversial

all I can say about a monero anthem is.............. lolololololol

also no reason to translate an out of date book

a new version of Mastering Monero has been coming out soon™ for I believe over a year

Goddamnit, ProtonMail. It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them!

I think ProtonMail saw someone write something libelous about ProtonMail on a blog hosted by Njalla. Then a ProtonMail lawyer sent Njalla a letter saying "give us info about this person", presumably so ProtonMail could issue a cease-and-desist letter to the blogger or something. Or even sue the blogger.
-
phillip[m]
I thought the same thing. We only see a part of half of the conversation
-
Rucknium[m]
Of course the biggest threat to ProtonMail's reputation comes not from a small-time blogger, but from ProtonMail's own actions.
-
carrington[m]
The tweeter seems to say njalla were not even hosting the block, just registering the domain. Or am I misunderstanding that? Makes the situation even dumber if so
-
carrington[m]
Block -> blog
-
xmrscott[m]
<carrington[m]> "The tweeter seems to say..." <- Njalla is basically a proxy for purchasing domains so they would have the PII, if any, not the domain
-
xmrscott[m]
So PM is 'right' to go after Njalla
-
xmrscott[m]
If PM's main goal was to remove the DNS record tho they should actually be going after the registrar for whatever
-
xmrscott[m]
* registrar for 'libel' or whatever
-
xmrscott[m]
* Njalla is basically a proxy for purchasing domains so they would have the PII, if any, not the domain registrar
-
xmrscott[m]
IANAL tho, so maybe it's easy to go after individuals than servicers for C&D's

I really like Kolmisoppi's point about a few privacy services having too much of a monopoly. Assuming everything that Kolmisoppi said is true, ProtonMail feels like it can pull this kind of move because any unsatisfied customers don't have a lot of choices.

I use Njalla, they just require an email address and Bitcoin/Monero payment for domains and VPS – no (fake) name/address, no credit card or Paypal, no government ID KYC. At most, Njalla could know your IP address, which is useless if you use Tor.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
Plus free markets require free speech, i.e. if you don't like a business, you are free to criticize it.

> If PM's main goal was to remove the DNS record

Sounds like monopolistic censorship against a decentralized and freely accessible network...
-
Rucknium[m]
Njalla also offers VPSs, so it might not be a DNS issue. The blog server itself could be hosted by Njalla.
-
netrik182
Either way Njalla would only have an email and IP address of the blogger
-
netrik182
Pointless if using disposable mail and Tor
-
Rucknium[m]
Seth For Privacy asked and apparently it _is_ about domain registration, not server hosting

>Proton sent a message asking njalla to take down a blog post and give out all personal details of the registrant of the domain. worth noting that the site is not hosted with njalla.
