IanNiculescu[m]
Hello everyone ?
-
IanNiculescu[m]
Do you think the price of monero going up in the future and fees doing the same will be a problem and how to solve it ?
-
assratatouille
depends how full the blocks are by then
-
assratatouille
so depends how much price action we're talking of
-
assratatouille
but assuming we're past the threshold for adaptive block size, fees per transaction will be lower as more transactions fit in a block
-
IanNiculescu[m]
i meen if a block reward stays 1 monero but a lot more people are paying fees that should drive fee prices down
-
IanNiculescu[m]
that makes sense thank you bro
-
assratatouille
thats how i understood it at least
-
assratatouille
im still not quite sure thats exactly how it works
-
IanNiculescu[m]
-
IanNiculescu[m]
i look there to visualize the amout of transactions that are happening compared to btc or eth

Dumb question. Since 14 word seeds can't be converted into 25 word seeds due to KDF on the Feather docs, does this mean that there are theoretically less Monero wallets created using the 14 word seed derivation?

Not sure if anyone is interested in having printable Monero QR code gift cards , but I just filed a feature request with Cake Wallet to help make it happen (on the redeeming side):
cake-tech/cake_wallet #196 . Poke vik (Cake) if this is something you want.

Really cool idea/request, grampy!

Rektflip made a similar script, if this helps:
github.com/rektflip/claimxmr (People deposit Monero to the website, then generate a gift card URL, and the recipient can redeem it to their wallet.)
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
-
crypto_grampy[m]
I don't have too much of a problem with the gift card giver knowing the seed... it's the same with a regular gift card. The person buying it could certainly decide to spend it if they wanted and they could also replace that scratch off stuff with nail polish or something... and that probably does happen π
-
crypto_grampy[m]
i was thinking it would be cool if the card was printable, and had a little dashed line with a deposit qr code on one side, and a redeem qr with seed words/simple instructions on the other side. You print out, make your deposit(s) and tear off the deposit qr, and just give someone the simple card with qr/seed and simple instructions

For anyone who is willing and able to implement this into Monero, I will give a 5XMR bounty for it's inclusion into the codebase via an accepted PR:
monero-project/research-lab #73

This is the best way to get over a key UX hurdle in Monero, and seems to have no drawbacks other than the implementation work necessary.

Hello, I am a new comer to the world of monero, and I have been reading around the various implementation details but I have to admit I am still a little confused about what makes randomX asic resistant on a fundamental level. Would someone be kind enough to help me understand ? Thank you
-
aberdeenik[m]
Hi, how can we promote monero mining among government university students as they usually have free cpu and electricity access?
-
aberdeenik[m]
However these students have no motivation to do mining as they may not appreciate their contributions towards a decentralized pool
-
SerHack
I'm not sure if students can exploit free cpu and electricity access to mine Monero
-
SerHack
E. g. in my university, it's severely forbidden, and if you get caught your student career ends there.

If you have more technical questions try digging through the code or ask in #monero-pow:monero.social

aberdeenik: lol literally going to uni on monday i'm definitely mine and promote it Lets goooo
-
aberdeenik[m]
So what strategy can be used to motivate and publicise among govt institutions to do this across all countries as mostly govt resources are wasted.
-
IanNiculescu[m]
maybe doing a video and posting it on youtube

Isn't it the case that Intel et al. are constantly building optimized CPUs?
-
just_looking_0xb
CPU designer that are payed like shit ?
-
crypto_grampy[m]
Rucknium[m]: yes
-
crypto_grampy[m]
Monero driving R+D and improvement of standard CPU's is a great thing
-
crypto_grampy[m]
Certainly better than driving improvement of ASIC space heaters that have no other value in the world
-
just_looking_0xb
That makes sense, thanks again crypto_grampy , but do you guys not think monero is getting interesting enoght to motivate such investement ?
-
aberdeenik[m]
When will randomx be deprecated to another algorithm?
-
crypto_grampy[m]
I think Howard discussed that it was likely that the randomX algo would likely need to be updated in the future (could be wrong on that) on a regular basis. If Monero gets that popular, there will be a massive amount of brain power to help work on this. So long as the community intent is to be ASIC resistant, i don't see any problems
-
just_looking_0xb
Perfectly makes sense, and now to prolong this to a tangent domain, what about fpga resistant ?
-
aberdeenik[m]
just_looking_0xb: Since random algorithms are generated to run its fpga resistant as well.
-
crypto_grampy[m]
-
crypto_grampy[m]
maybe?

crypto_grampy[m]

<IanNiculescu[m]> "bro you are so rigth" <- So any one here has any plan on how to promote xmr mining on govt computers?
-
Rucknium[m]
In some places that is considered theft because you are using electricity that doesn't belong to you for private gain.
-
crypto_grampy[m]
Rucknium[m]: sir, these xmr moneys go straight back to the department. they keep cutting the budget every year
-
aberdeenik[m]
Rucknium[m]: Then we can also ask them to dedicate it to the department welfare.
-
aberdeenik[m]
Maybe canceling out the govt tax theft.
-
carrington[m]
You could indeed build a CPU optimized for RandomX, but it would likely only achieve x2-5 efficiency improvements. That is much lower than the difference between CPUs and BTC ASICs
-
carrington[m]
Probably not worth the investment, as CPUs constantly progress anyways
-
aberdeenik[m]
How can monero completely replace cash, what property it should be given such that it becomes a full substitute for cash. One area is the fluctuations in price need to be stabilized. Can't it be tethered to say gold reserves?
-
entry1[m]
