bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> youtube.com/watch?v=gjMQ8FEPNwY&ab_channel=TimcastIRL look at 7:35,the guy is trying to introduce private crypto in the mind of Tim.
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> so they mention Monero
-
freestatemag[m]<bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> www...." <- Trudeau is much worse than I ever imagined...sad thing is biden is just the same
-
mossfoldlotterDid that Bitcoin laundering couple really use Monero? I didn't see that mentioned anywhere
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> yes they did to launder the btc.
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> it was in the paper on the graphs
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> dash was also mentionned
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> but they had no trails of the xmr transactions
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> what i think they did, is exchange the dirty btc for monero, and then deposited the xmr into exchanges to get btc.
-
bridgerton[m]<π²π΄πππ»π΄πΎππ> so they traced the XMR?
-
bridgerton[m]<π²π΄πππ»π΄πΎππ> going from one exchange to another?
-
bridgerton[m]<ian.niculescu> they only traced the bitcoin to exchanges with KYC from what I understand. And on those exchanges the feds saw deposits in xmr, comming from nowhere. The likely answer is that the criminals used some sort of btc-xmr swap to get xmr. and then deposited that xmr on exchanges. So the feds only tracked btc.I might be wrong about this, but this is what i understand.

sgp_[m]1The monero.social Matrix server will have downtime as well today, starting in approximately 1-2 hours. It is being moved to a dedicated AMD EPYC server. Apologies for the short notice. It should take less than 4 hours for the transition to occur. The Monero group chats will remain accessible from other Matrix servers during the downtime, including matrix.org. Thank you.

nikg83[m]<bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> they only traced..." <- They probably saw xmr withdrawals to exchange from alphabay logs
-
selstanikg83[m]: they had all exchange login details
-
nikg83[m]selsta: Yep, but hacked-btc to xmr to exchange was provable if they transferred directly (or eabe) and found the same from alphabay logs
-
nikg83[m]Some news articles do point to alphabay logs being used
-
selstathe government didn't do any tracing how the XMR got into the exchange
-
selstaif they did tracing the PDFs don't disclose it but there was no reason to in the first place
-
sgp_[m]1also they didn't seem to decrypt the monero wallet, because "unknown about of monero"
-
sgp_[m]1the simplest explanation is just that they traced the bitcoin backwards
