Hi
-
inlight_
i have a question
-
inlight_
Cryptocurrency is fine as long as we are trading virtual goods
-
inlight_
when it comes to real life goods, if government starts doing crackdown on vendors accepting cryptocurrency
-
inlight_
what will we do?
-
Inge
cry
-
inlight_
is there any solution for this?
-
Inge
if enough people have/use cryptocurrencies, they will impact policy
-
inlight_
lets imaging a country like china
-
Inge
-
inlight_
what will they do, is there any solution to this?
-
inlight_
like p2p exchange
-
inlight_
if they start doing crackdown on cryptocurrency - fiat exchange
-
Inge
if govt bans using crypto, then legal businesses will not accept crypto ...
-
inlight_
then cryptocurrency will not survive?
-
inlight_
Those who illegally accept cryptocurrencies as payment will incur fines.

<jonah_xd[m]> "1644447259408.png" <- That s bad!
-
hansams[m]
<inlight_> "if they start doing crackdown on..." <- I hear you. Then it is really important that there are local trust circles who can trade between each other with crypto. Important is that trust comes before trading in these cases. So, for example, if you have a small local shop and government shots everything down, then by this time you have circle of “friends” (people you trust), who are still buying from you and who can
-
hansams[m]
relay you still sell for them for crypto. Bust this trust circle you have to have before everything goes down. So, you better start organising your own local trust circles.

spirobel[m]
<jonah_xd[m]> "1644447259408.png" <- weird... local laws of the sender or the receiver? this is odd. I dont think turkey bans denying the holocaust.
-
surgeon_[m]
Would be ironic at least considering their stance on Armenia. But yeah dont use telegram. Especially as a euro who has his name and phone number associated with his account. And i dont believe the channels are E2EEd by default.
-
spirobel[m]
seems like web2 is already in a bear market. They will all get rekt in a political volatile situation. twitter is getting rekt, facebook is getting rekt and in the end telegram will get rekt too ... doubt they can weasel their way out of this whole situation without losing a lot of money.
-
surgeon_[m]
Definitely. Only permissionless and decentralized infrastructures have even a chance at surviving.
-
inlight_
how
-
inlight_
they can censor permissionless and ecentralized infrastucutre
-
inlight_
at least make it unusable
-
surgeon_[m]
As opposed to censoring permissioned and centralized things? Which of those two things is harder to do.
-
spirobel[m]
<inlight_> "at least make it unusable" <- no offense, but you sound like a doomer 😀
-
spirobel[m]
<inlight_> "they can censor permissionless..." <- for sure there is a way, but I still cant picture the government launching ddos attacks on decentralized protocols.
-
spirobel[m]
bureaucrats are more into laws and this kind of stuff. web2 companies are much more vulnerable to this stuff.
-
inlight_
spirobel[m]: no offense, but you sound clueless
-
inlight_
you cant even think about what i was talkin
-
inlight_
if they start doing crackdown on cryptocurrency - fiat exchange
-
inlight_
if govt bans using crypto, then legal businesses will not accept crypto
-
inlight_
it will be unusable, why will u keep crypto
-
spirobel[m]
<inlight_> "if govt bans using crypto..." <- legal businesses are kind of boring though. Educate yourself on the second realm. Focusing more on private individuals and entrepreneurship makes more sense for monero anyhow. I dont think institutional adoption and big companies accepting monero is the holy grail we are search for here. If you care about that just buy bitcoin or ethereum and call it a day.
-
spirobel[m]
s/search/searching/
-
hansams[m]
<surgeon_[m]> "Would be ironic at least..." <- End to end you can get on Telegram only for 1on1 messages (if you turn this option on).
-
surgeon_[m]
Yeah. telegram is literally worse than whatsapp
-
inlight_
spirobel[m]: im talking about govt. banning all cryptocurrency
-
monerobull[m]
<hansams[m]> "End to end you can get on..." <- telegram is horrendous for privacy
-
monerobull[m]
even the monero extremists buying a pound of stickers from me only have e2ee on in maybe 2/10 cases
-
monerobull[m]
and in the worst case their phone number is set to public
-
inlight_
you sell stickers?
-
bridgerton[m]
<Encore> I looked into it and the option to start a secret chat is pretty tucked away
-
bridgerton[m]
<Encore> nasty piece of software
-
bridgerton[m]
<Encore> (I say, on discord)
-
monerobull[m]
<inlight_> "you sell stickers?" <- yeah
-
-
snorch[m]
<monerobull[m]> "yeah" <- Worldwide? I'm in Europe
-
monerobull[m]
<snorch[m]> "Worldwide? I'm in Europe" <- jup

Scalability

where am I and how did I get here?
