devduck the only bias i've seen is people knowing of my alias because of the contributions i've made to the ecosystem over the last year+ and moderating the meeting itself (but people had a week to complain about that), we need proposers to be able to speak / defend their idea (as they always have). One of the ideas discussed which i don't like personally i pushed for a fair compromise

as for 'whats happening with the atomic swap gui' the last push to their main branch on github was august 10th, and this update was provided 1~ month ago , ill message binarybaron and see where the team is at repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/c…als/-/merge_requests/321#note_18171

if i remember, the feedback from this community was ' can it be easily adapted for Farcaster / comit is dead though / will we have to raise funds again for Farcaster gui when its finished / the comit swap UX sucks when things go bad, but the GUI will help (main reason for needing it)' but the proposal is very marketable / donator friendly, people are still using comit while we wait for Farcaster.. its just 'overdue'

Well, I checked, and there is Blu-ray RE which is something like CD-RW, but yeah, such a disk would not only be terribly slow, but past its maximum number of rewrites before sync can terminate ...

Monero daemons can even wear out SD-cards in smartphones with the blockchain on it, if I remember some reports from hyc correctly.

The assumption that the blockchain is a file that just grows at the end is wrong. It's a database, and it has indexes that are stored all over the place and change with each added block

That's also the reason why corruption can occur, which you wouldn't expect if data just get added at the end, which would of course be trivial to do

But well, if you have a BD writer, and rewritable disks, please do try, it would be interesting to hear the result nevertheless.

You could use SSD cache to make it faster but if you can spare SSD space, why can't you spare HDD space

BR seek time are over 100ms on average

HDD seek time are like 7ms on average

SSD seek time are 0us on average

If SSD take 8HR and HDD take over a week to sync, I expect blueray to take a few months to sync.

There is also no way to use LVM2 on blueray disk so the trick I posted on #monero:monero.social to make HDD sync a few order of magnitude faster, won't work.

And some BD-RE that can last from 20 to 50 years but that's the theoretical maximum.

like LTO Tape, can get use older unot for decent price but of course you gonna pay if you want LTO-6 or LTO-7. (That later have 6TB capacity per tape)
