To not miss a Saturday meeting I carefully checked the topic of this chatroom yesterday which stated next meeting in September. It seems I still missed a meeting, did I?
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
Yep
-
devduck[m]
plowsof: during meeting you shouldn't have commented or replied during the discussion of your own ccs proposal
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Why? devduck:
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Every proposer is allowed to pitch / explain / converse
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Why would plowsof ccs be any different?
-
devduck[m]
biasness
-
ofrnxmr[m]
He is currently a volunteer. He's not the coordinator
-
devduck[m]
okay
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also, he had 0 input
-
ofrnxmr[m]
- Monerobull even "said it for him"
-
ofrnxmr[m]
And the vote was unanimous
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Do you have any issues with the ccs?
-
devduck[m]
not really :)
-
rbrunner
I like how the GUI wallet will probably get some more "love" if this proposal is successful.
-
rbrunner
Good idea from selsta, if I read the meeting backlog correctly
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yeah, Plowsof be able to dedicate time/resources to gui
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Ive only used gui once ๐

people still crying for time machines on old bitcoin videos while the next big thing is passing by
youtube.com/watch?v=YmPg4V-YE0k
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
I told my friends to buy Monero when it was 7 USD per coin
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
today it's still heavily undervalued at only ~144 USD
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
People don't see Monero because their eyes are blurred with tears from watching old Bitcoin videos
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
PS. none of my friends purchased Monero but they were considering Bitcoin after it blew up in price lol
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
Price of Monero would shoot up if we had more sorry ass stories about lost hard drive with thousands of coins and videos like this, people just love to dream but never really think.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
ypavtv97lx[m]: You need better friends
-
ofrnxmr[m]
๐ฎ yeet
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
Now I know how those early Bitcoin guys felt ๐
-
rbrunner
Just 1 minute ago I told my son about that video and mused that such a "possibly 100,000 times profit" situation will not repeat for a long time, anywhere, be it crypto, be it something very different
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
For sure Bitcoin will not multiply so much again at current price, in fact it's losing it's dominance for a long time now in the market cap against other projects and currently seats at ~39% according to coin360.com
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
s/seats/sits/
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
but people in /r/bitcoin still believe that owning 1 BTC is enough to be millionaire in future ๐คฃ
-
ypavtv97lx[m]
maybe if hyperinflation hits, but then 1 million USD will be worth 1 cheeseburger
-
plowsof
devduck the only bias i've seen is people knowing of my alias because of the contributions i've made to the ecosystem over the last year+ and moderating the meeting itself (but people had a week to complain about that), we need proposers to be able to speak / defend their idea (as they always have). One of the ideas discussed which i don't like personally i pushed for a fair compromise
-
plowsof
as for 'whats happening with the atomic swap gui' the last push to their main branch on github was august 10th, and this update was provided 1~ month ago , ill message binarybaron and see where the team is at

-
ofrnxmr[m]
Isn't comit unmaintained? I swear we rejected thus proposal
-
ofrnxmr[m]
This is why we need a coordinator
-
plowsof
if i remember, the feedback from this community was ' can it be easily adapted for Farcaster / comit is dead though / will we have to raise funds again for Farcaster gui when its finished / the comit swap UX sucks when things go bad, but the GUI will help (main reason for needing it)' but the proposal is very marketable / donator friendly, people are still using comit while we wait for Farcaster.. its just 'overdue'
-
ofrnxmr[m]
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Bull had said it is maintained to some degree
-
ofrnxmr[m]
But, im still against the proposal. My view: waste of time and resources. While ive never used an atomic swap (does anyone here use em?), my understanding is that farcaster and others are superior to Comit and are actively developed
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Thats one thing that needs to stop.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Proposals should never be merged without confirmation that it is to be merged.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
We have meetings twice a month for these things.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Future example: moneromoon ccs gets merged sometime this week without any further conversation
-
ofrnxmr[m]
That was _not_ what consensus said. We said _close_ without further info. Not _merge_.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
๐ฑ I'll be blaming you plowsof:
-
ofrnxmr[m]
(Moon is a hypothetical example)
-
monerobull[m]
Hehe plowsof is now ccs customer support and gets the blame for everything
-
DanIsnotthemanBr
One man band
-
plowsof
yes that is the idea, the coordinator should have an incentive to please the community (if there's nothing at risk then we get trash)
-
DiegoSalazar[m]
<monerobull[m]> "Hehe plowsof is now ccs customer..." <- Happy to pass the torch.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Dw Diego, I can still aim the flamethrower at you ๐
-
DiegoSalazar[m]
Yes. Give me that nostalgia!
-
plowsof
The first question was 'do you like being punched in the face?' before the role was introduced to me

(Me being the donkey)
-
Martin77[m]
Hello
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Morning
-
Martin77[m]
how much minimum storage to run a node?
-
RavFX[m]
<Martin77[m]> "how much minimum storage to..." <- Current storage for a unpruned node is 142GiB
-
Martin77[m]
RavFX[m]: is it possible to sync with BD?
-
Martin77[m]
RavFX[m]: oh wow nvm
-
Martin77[m]
i don't have that much storage
-
nioc
a prune node is about 1/3 of that
-
nioc
Martin77[m]: ^^
-
ofrnxmr[m]
About 50gb right now for a pruned node
-
Martin77[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: thanks for the info , btw is it possible to use BD?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
BD would be what?
-
Martin77[m]
<ofrnxmr[m]> "BD would be what?" <- Bluray Disk
-
ofrnxmr[m]
RavFX: might know
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Id assume br is a hard no. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
-
rbrunner
Well, I checked, and there is Blu-ray RE which is something like CD-RW, but yeah, such a disk would not only be terribly slow, but past its maximum number of rewrites before sync can terminate ...
-
rbrunner
Monero daemons can even wear out SD-cards in smartphones with the blockchain on it, if I remember some reports from hyc correctly.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
rbrunner: Going on 8 months or so here :P
-
rbrunner
And probably failing any minute now, just to prove you wrong :) Believe, the card knows what to do for maximum effect and drama.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
One thing that matters is the available free space
-
ofrnxmr[m]
The smaller the card, the faster the rewrites get burned up
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Also Hyc recommended changing the sync mode to lower the amount of writes
-
Martin77[m]
<ofrnxmr[m]> "Id assume br is a hard no. ๐คทโโ๏ธ" <- is an optical disk , it can store up to 50gb of data
-
Martin77[m]
since the blockchain doesn't modify data i think it might work
-
Martin77[m]
a lil bit of info once a data is burn into it , it can't be modify
-
rbrunner
Makes sense
-
rbrunner
The assumption that the blockchain is a file that just grows at the end is wrong. It's a database, and it has indexes that are stored all over the place and change with each added block
-
rbrunner
That's also the reason why corruption can occur, which you wouldn't expect if data just get added at the end, which would of course be trivial to do
-
rbrunner
But well, if you have a BD writer, and rewritable disks, please do try, it would be interesting to hear the result nevertheless.
-
RavFX[m]
<Martin77[m]> "Bluray Disk..." <- Can you use, yes.
-
RavFX[m]
But it will be slower than HDDs.
-
RavFX[m]
Probably not worth the trying
-
ofrnxmr[m]
rbrunner: ravfx has done some. . Things
-
RavFX[m]
You could use SSD cache to make it faster but if you can spare SSD space, why can't you spare HDD space
-
ofrnxmr[m]
I think most info was in #monero:monero.social
-
RavFX[m]
BR seek time are over 100ms on average
-
RavFX[m]
HDD seek time are like 7ms on average
-
RavFX[m]
SSD seek time are 0us on average
-
RavFX[m]
If SSD take 8HR and HDD take over a week to sync, I expect blueray to take a few months to sync.
-
RavFX[m]
There is also no way to use LVM2 on blueray disk so the trick I posted on #monero:monero.social to make HDD sync a few order of magnitude faster, won't work.
-
Martin77[m]
i think i will just use the BD for Archives
-
Martin77[m]
they lasted pretty long 100+ years
-
RavFX[m]
> <@martin77:matrix.rabbit-company.com> i think i will just use the BD for Archives
-
RavFX[m]
>
-
RavFX[m]
> they lasted pretty long 100+ years
-
RavFX[m]
5-10 years
-
RavFX[m]
100 years was marketing whohaa
-
RavFX[m]
You can get BD-R that last 20 years.
-
RavFX[m]
And some BD-RE that can last from 20 to 50 years but that's the theoretical maximum.
-
RavFX[m]
Want long term storage for backup?
-
RavFX[m]
Use TAPE
-
RavFX[m]
like LTO Tape, can get use older unot for decent price but of course you gonna pay if you want LTO-6 or LTO-7. (That later have 6TB capacity per tape)
-
RavFX[m]
s/use/used/, s/unot/unit/
-
RavFX[m]
Oh, they have LTO-9 now, 18TB uncompressed and up to 45TB compressed ๐ (220$ per tape)
-
RavFX[m]
* per tape / 405$ for a pack of 5)

anonymous payment gateway for Monero?

coinpayments work well but customers required to register email and i think they used your transaction data for analytics based on their Privacy Policy
