whitequark has a setup within NixOS they posted recently (and is being shared in #libera-matrix) github.com/whitequark/catircservices.org

both for synapse and the irc bridge, so can probably get a few tips from there

the bridge part is a bit more complex given it won't be as automatic as this one

long term seems like a good solution for monero.social but people from other homeservers cannot use that... but at least they get to join the matrix room, no idea what happens then but maybe it "just works"?

I will probably setup one of these myself for the p2pool related rooms at least, specifically for mini as we have no OPs there to do the plumbing with, though if Monero.social runs their full one later on (many to many) that won’t be an issue

This is a questionable decision, this project is subject of CCS proposal, so I don't see why we shouldn't discuss it.

Could you explain what do you mean by that? What makes Monero different? Who are those people who might be discouraged by GPL license? And why developers of closed-source software should be allowed to take code from community-funded project?

imo monero core code should be MIT, especially if an alternative implementation is being paid by the monero community

Monero is probably the only popular cryptocurrency project that still remains unaffected by such influence. Other major players have been largely assimilated into the system. I think that instead of pandering to venture capitalists and twitter NPC crowd, people working within Monero ecosystem should align themselves with the broader FOSS movement, because it's the only way to remain independent.
