cornfeedhobo
there is no rule against multiple accounts, but it seems interesting :)

m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Monero.social breaks, irc is more reliable
-
cornfeedhobo
yeah, good moderation will do that
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> So i have a second matrix acct since monero.social is often unreliable, and irc is much faster
-
cornfeedhobo
syntheticbird: curious what the threshold is for #991 ?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Demoting you
-
m-relay
<diego:cypherstack.com> This is not possible. Libera Chat, who runs the IRC network we use, has limitations.
-
nioCat
wait, I see matrix in offtopic
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> And we didnt break the rules
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Niocat, the mute was turned off
-
cornfeedhobo
you break the very first rule constantly. be nice.
-
m-relay
<diego:cypherstack.com> No
-
cornfeedhobo
there is no civility to the way you engage
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Cry me a river
-
cornfeedhobo
you rely on being louder and typing faster
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> you reported me for not being nice to an overreaching mod?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I dont type fast. Im on my phone, thumb typing
-
nioCat
so there was a temp mute?
-
cornfeedhobo
that's some devotion. imagine if you put that energy into something else
-
nioCat
pitchforks
-
cornfeedhobo
nioCat: yeah. the channel can be made moderated, where only voice and above can chat or there is a per user mute
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Cornfeed, imagine if you paid attn
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> i can only imagine what youd do without your ops. Leave the chat? Mute the bridge for your own account? Who knows. What do you do?
-
cornfeedhobo
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Niocat, he muted the bridge bcuz he didnt like our subject matter. Idk why or who reversed the mute.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> He calls it "good moderation"
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> He's not opped in offtopic, so i assume he has ops beyond the channel
-
cornfeedhobo
Without jumping to /ignore, how would you like to handle situations when people are asked to follow a rule and go off about it instead of listening?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> What rule "dont talk about conspiracy theories"? When tf did just become a rule
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> And who died and made you our mom? touch grass
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> What rule did you ask us to follow? "dont speak about the vaccine"?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> "<cornfeedhobo> it is an offtopic channel, but not a free for all. I've let the discussion about vaccines go long enough. your opinion is known. let's move on to different topics please :)" nice rule

m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> and "conspiracies theories" can endup as fact at the end
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> off topic is off topic
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> bridge mute was unwaranted
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> We broke rules according to cornfeed

m-relay
<clarck__amberson:matrix.org> Mf thinks he is watching a youtube video
-
m-relay
<clarck__amberson:matrix.org> "I'm tired of this part let me skip this part"
-
m-relay
<clarck__amberson:matrix.org> You are not kim jong un
-
m-relay
<clarck__amberson:matrix.org> You cant just force people to skip topics when you want
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> off topic should be off topic
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> aka everything not faling in other channels bucket
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> off topic should be off topic
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> aka everything not failling in other channels bucket
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> mf reported me to libera for not being nice, and in the same breath told ppl to go to -pools. but doesnt report -pools for breaking all of libera rules.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Core should remove this larpers ops if doesnt remove them himself
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I'm not saying -pools is acceptable. I am saying that cornfeed is the exact opposite of that monero needs for leadership, mediation or moderation
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Monero need a Monero IRC server
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> I can host if needed
-
badjabber
why is pools catching strays over here. pools dindu nuffin
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> cuz pools, last i checked, has lots of racism, sexism, etc stuff, and no moderation. But its been a while since i was in there
-
badjabber
I can see your point but I see it like the difference between being mean and harrassing/assaulting someone/ doing something illegal. I think it doesn't merit banning (being mean rather than criminal)
-
badjabber
it's up to libera to decide (they've paused the channel in the past when someone was talking about "pdf files" so to speak and was maybe accusing someone else can't remember)
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> -pool is a thing
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> -offtopic is another thing
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> "Libera has rules" is what they say
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> And cornfeed reported me for libera for "being mean"
-
cornfeedhobo
and you took that to saying that you were reported
-
cornfeedhobo
riddle me this, how does one report to libera staff about a user that isn't using libera? i didn't even know you had an irc account until you used it here.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Its why I said we need our own IRC servers
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> You literally said you reported me
-
cornfeedhobo
lol where?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> "<cornfeedhobo> you did break libera rules and i did have a conversation with libera already"
-
nioCat
assumation :)
-
cornfeedhobo
there were three people talking at that point. rest assured, you were not "reported"
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> who did you report?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> i sleep good, dw. I spent 7 month behind weaker mods than you
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> But! Monero needs to remove your type from positions of power
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> dw, youre not the only one on a growing list of ppl who need to logoff and touch grass
-
vthor
Wanted first to write that in #monero-community, but I think it's only spaming that channel full and here is the origen... although #monero-beef would be probably the better fit. cornfeedhobo, serious question how go statism with monero together? This blows my mind. I mean, I was not involved in the conversation and does not even like a person involved, but I would never have the idea to tell somebody shut up in a public space even I dislike the said. In
-
vthor
my personal space another story, but in public space an adult person woud simply ignore or walk away IMO, and for me it is distrubing that somebody censors in an offtopic room because of offtopic talk you don't like. For me that do only people I would not expect in a privacy coin community showing the big middle finger to any gov. So please can you tell me what is the motivation to defend the obvious gov/pharma industry fake narrative in a channel called
-
vthor
#monero-offtopic?
-
vthor
sorry, please ignore the message here, didn't realize that I switched back to #monero-community
-
cornfeedhobo
vthor: I see the message in both channels, where would you like to continue this?
-
cornfeedhobo
ah okay. taking it there.
-
vthor
offtopic I think is better, my fault.
-
cornfeedhobo
no problem :)

m-relay
<recanman:kernal.eu> I was never a mod for anything
-
m-relay
<recanman:kernal.eu> Why am I in mod list? I was never added as a moderator...
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I put you down as a potential mod of events
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Though, i dont remember why
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> (Was 11 months ago)
-
m-relay
<recanman:kernal.eu> Odd
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> the list wasn't active mods, but potential new ones
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> Gooooooooooooooooood morning wonderful people.
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> What a nice day it is, indeed.
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> too much energy
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> dont be cheerful, we need to be gloomy
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> stop watching anime and get a girlfriend that loves you and you will be cheerful. Also transforming negative thoughts into positive my friend.
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> I like your cat ears, digital anime girl.
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> my girlfriend is borderline abusive
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> well...*cough*
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> *hugs*
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> smug girl why you gotta make me watch the others pump and never do it yourself
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> see, i got you
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> I've just turned this place into hugs and positivity.
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> this whole convo was about price from the start
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> Image loading is slow with dead starlink in the middle of nowhere.
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:monero.social> I am not much familiar with wallets. Trying different wallets right now. StackWallet is secure?
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> yeah
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:monero.social> Can be considered one of the secure wallets?
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> btw. when will monerod finally work with non glibc OSs like alpine linux?
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> right now all wallets are built on the reference wallet2 implementation
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> so they are all pretty much equally safe
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> except for stuff like exodus or mymonero which have your viewkey
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> you could run it in docker
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:monero.social> Thanks.
-
m-relay
<umask777:decred.org> looks like monero is already packaged for alpine linux:
pkgs.alpinelinux.org/package/edge/community/x86_64/monero
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> Are funds safu in Docker? I never managed to compile Docker myself and it has this suss vibe.
-
m-relay
<umask777:decred.org> you probably just need to enable the community repository
-
m-relay
<umask777:decred.org> if you do choose to containerize, podman is generally considered more secure than docker
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> Thanks umask777. I've just found it in the alpine community repos. Also thanks for the tip with podman.
-
m-relay
<umask777:decred.org> no prob good luck have fun!
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> It already works
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> I'm using monerod on alpine linux succesfully
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> I'm using monerod on alpine linux successfully
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> It always supported musl target btw.
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> huh. I guess not I forgot I had to pull up some easylogging patches when I compiled it
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> My benchmark for whether a piece of software might be good, is to check whether it runs natively with musl libc objects.
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> I've asked like two years ago in the monero irc and someone told me that it's not supported.
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> But that's in the past. Now I've found it in the community repos and got confirmation that it works. That makes me happy.
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Yeah I forgot I had to pull up some patches for compiling it. Know that the version in the community repo is outdated and there are still no MR on alpine gitlab. If you can compile it yourself, I invite you to. Pull the patches from the gitlab alpinelinux and clone master branch or v18.3.4.
-
m-relay
<nerap:matrix.org> the version in the `latest-stable` community repos is `18.3.3`, which seems recent enough for me.
-
m-relay
