I could move monerod and p2pool to my router
-
hyc
2GHz quadcore ARM64
-
pauliouk
damn, probably push a good 300-500h/s out of it too while its running p2pool and monerod
-
hyc
yeah, pretty powerful for a router
-
pauliouk
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of the new systems the Russians are setting up with their new ARM cpus
-
abberant[m]
why would you want to run nodes on your router? no other home server/vps?
-
pauliouk
its never to reason why, only to reason why not? :)

DataHoarder
"router"

pauliouk: fair

hyc
that sounds pretty usable

8 core, 1.2ghz, 8mb cache. Could run a decent node and miner on one board
-
pauliouk
and if they make them en-mass, could build a fairly decent mining net
-
pauliouk
I imagine they'll keep the boards small, just needs somewhere to plug a monitor keyboard mouse and network into
-
hyc
8 core and 8MB cache is not enough cache
-
moneromooo
Any cache is not enough cache :P
-
hyc
lol

back in the 80s and 90s my rule of thumb was a computer should have as much RAM as it can POST in 1 second
-
hyc
deviating from that means either too much RAM for the CPU speed, or too much CPU power for the RAM
-
hyc
these days that would be cache and not system RAM and the time unit would probably be 1 microsecond
-
moneromooo
POST ? I can only map to boot time diagnostic.
-
moneromooo
cs
-
hyc
yes, power on self test
-
moneromooo
Odd comparison. Why ?
-
hyc
it means the CPU can read every byte of memory within X time.
-
hyc
if your CPU had a memory bus bandwidth of 100MB/sec then you should have 100MB of RAM
-
pauliouk
jesus, you're dating yourself a bit here hyc :P
-
hyc
I said 80s and 90s didn't I?
-
pauliouk
I remember maxing out a ZX81 with 128kb of ram
-
pauliouk
also remember paying like $400 for 4MB of ram from a guy that worked at the factory
-
pauliouk
and $800 for a 5.2GByte hard drive
-
moneromooo
I remember getting $800 for 4 MB of RAM from someone who didn't realize hty could get it from $40...
-
hyc
the first portable HDD I saw was a 5MB shoebox
-
moneromooo
*getting $400
-
moneromooo
Crap. Joke fail.
-
gingeropolous
"POST in 1 second" is that because we used to have to watch the memory test during post? ... when we used to turn our pcs off ...
-
gingeropolous
that always did seem to take a while... considering i had demons to slay and dos prompts to swear at
-
hyc
yeah that too, sitting there watching it POST ..
-
pauliouk
its almost nostaglic when you hear an old machine from the early 90's spin up
-
pauliouk
the clicks and beeps... its almost like hearing a modem dialup for Millenials
