<basses:matrix.org> Hello
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> is the Monero Translations chat server is held hostage by Erc? or still managed by monero team?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> cuz the git repo is archived
github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-translations
-
plowsof
Still managed by 'monero team' but progress is slow
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> when the progress will be fast?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> cuz a year sounds like usual
-
plowsof
At this point i can only ask a volunteer if he has time (as the person before me has done)
-
m-relay
<rottenwheel:kernal.eu> Do better plowsof, we pay you! 😂
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> that volunteer will have to sysadmin too?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> weblate server had issues
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> my understanding is that there where hardware issues with the previous server that weblate was hosted on. the general fund has provided a better server now and we're waiting on the sysadmin/fixy/magic thing to be done
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> we can't wait forever so if it's not resolved actually soon then we need to figure out the steps of hiring someone to do it for us
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> good 🫠
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> CCS is rich, it's ok to spend somtimes
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Imo it is a time where we need to spend this fund and stimulate developments
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Not a time for sleeping and being lazy
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> its not so much about funds its more so about what level of "security clearence" / trust is required... e.g. is the weblate server isolated from everything else? or is it on the same box? some questions we would need answering
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yeah, if it was me I would choose an easy hosted service with proper Role-based access control
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> It's not critical
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Easier to use
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Also with AI this work can be much less manual. We need reviewers more than translators
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I would be interested to be part of the new translation team btw
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> ok ive offered to figure it out rottenwheel , wish me luck
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Might as well get rid of weblate and have a no bullshit system (aka pull requests) for translations.
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> but im waiting for my weblate/basic admin onboarding session
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> ah yes, its sad when people make direct translation PR's and are pointed to weblate
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> has the turkish translations improved since your most recent push if i may ask? jut wondering
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> No, nothing ever changed. They never incorporated the weblate translations.
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> We don't live in 90s, just use chatgpt or gtranslate if you're worried about trolling
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Accept PRs because it is just ridiculous
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> ideally yes, everything should be AI'd out of the gate for a bare minimum - which is then improved upon
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> No like double check PRs with online translators if you don't trust the person
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I also translated quite a lot of French that never got merged, because I think nobody peer reviewed it
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> online translate to prove nothing sus and then merge
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Yes no need for brain gymnastics
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> This ^^^
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> ChatGPT and PRs is probably enough
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Astro starlight devs run translations through google translate and check if they make sense and relevant. This is their way of reviewing
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Weblate is really handy
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> And this bitch of AI is even translating better than humans :/
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> nope
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> At least better than me then
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Ai and online translators sucks
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I can tell from the translation if it was generated by some machine or by person
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I translate .po files in Django project with Github Copilot, I just review the result. The sentences are better than what I could come up
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I have my tools
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> this includes online translators and improving on it
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Copilot is smart enough to understand the whole context, remember your chosen technical terms...
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I have been impressed by a lot of websites on Tor that works with no JS
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> many talented individuals
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Like which ones?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Pitch
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> twitter clone
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> No JS Twitter clone?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I just use Tor browser to check how websites fucntion
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> yep
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I just use Tor browser to check how websites function
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> it is a hidden service website
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Doesn't mean it has no client-side js tho
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> hmm
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> It works great with Tor on maximum security settings
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> It works great with Tor browser on maximum security settings
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> also how bad is the IRC spam when I edit in matrix?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> I didn't realize I edited twice
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> If it's like Firefox, you enter `about:config` in url, type javascript.enabled, toggle to false
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I don't see any spam
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Except our useless conversation
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> :)
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> A chat room is to talk right?
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> yes
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> playing with config isn't something you want to do
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> on Tor browser
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I agree, but if you want to do a quick check, this is the best way to disable js completely
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I actually don't know if max security means that JS is disabled completely
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> hmm
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Safest
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> This level only allows website features required for static sites and basic services. These changes affect images, media, and scripts.
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> Javascript is disabled by default on all sites; some fonts, icons, math symbols, and images are disabled; audio and video (HTML5 media) are click-to-play.
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yep need safest on https websites
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> image.png
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yes makes sense
-
nioCat
when you edit even one letter of a matrix post irc sees the entire post again
-
nioCat
it looks particularly spammy when it's a long post
-
nioCat
editing this "I just use Tor browser to check how websites fucntion" is not necessary as my brain doesn't notice and auto corrects
-
nioCat
we won't think that you can't spell :)
-
nioCat
editing "It works great with Tor on maximum security settings" to "It works great with Tor browser on maximum security settings" is meaningful
-
nioCat
but whatever, appreciate the input and work
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> lol, that's very bad
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> idk why it is like that on IRC
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> other bridges for diff platforms work fine
-
nioCat
Libera stopped their support for bridges so someone made this one with its limitations
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> ah
