Is anyone except me concerned that getmonero site uses CloudFlare? CF have been sketchy lately:

<syntheticbird:monero.social> sech1 I'm not too much into conspiracy but I too feel like cloudflare is a liability
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> but we're already using several other highly centralized services (github and netlify)
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> So, unless we decide to switch those services too, there are not much sense at removing cloudflare, for the website at least

as for github, there is a backup gitlab instance with Monero repositories
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Yes, I would honestly prefer the monero project to just switch over their own repository but I agree with the sentiment that users will be too lazy to create an account and report issues
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> over their own gitlabi instance*

m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> maybe it was never backup
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> i guess several trusted members have mirror

Anyone who cloned the repo, has it up until some point in time. It's how git works, right?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Yes. If you want the new commits you need to fetch
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Tho I've a private gitlab instance and I just mirrored monero repo, so gitlab automatically (6 hours iirc) fetch new commits and branches

selsta
core team pays for a service that backs up github
-
selsta
afaik there were also a couple CCS that tried to back things up but the people behind it vanished (plowsof do you remember the details?)

plowsof
"moneroarchive" who scammed us for 1 monero lol
-
plowsof
We have a community member Arkal (4rkal) hosting a copy of the github repo. Funded via kuno iirc
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> Lmao I can make one for free
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> oh good if Arkal already do one

Sech1 should we enable a backup on our gitlab instance?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> If you do, would you mind backing up Cuprate was well?
-
plowsof
Im in the 'we dont need any unofficial back up that wont be trusted if we actually needed it anyway.. we'd ask the handful of.monero devs / trusted contribs with local gits'
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> not sure they fetched metadata of all branches tho
-
plowsof
Issues / comments / emojis from github on the other hand
-

tbh I don't fetch Monero repo that often. Maybe once a week
-
sech1
So my local copy is outdated most of the time

plowsof
