What is pony bait?

Apparently, oats are bait for mares (female horses) and does (female deer), while ivy is bait for lambs (young sheep) and kids (young goats).

I think perhaps Monero is bait for me.

Would Monero have any need for BitTorrent bootstrap?

This would obviate the need for DNS seed nodes, at the cost of instead requiring BitTorrent DHT seed node (which are by far more plentiful)

not sure if there is much gain in replacing monero seed nodes with bittorrent seed nodes

well, i think any harmonization of p2p seeding is worth exploring

so that's about 1 in every 170-430 IPv4 IPs

meaning, if you just randomly send out handshakes to a few hundred IPv4 IPs, you're bound to get at least one that does BitTorrent DHT

(and from there, you can get more nodes)

value is an IP

so to "join", you calculate e.g. sha-1("Monero"), then you announce to e9b74480ca5f07d9a30654ee0dbf96f3b423531e

and then, anyone who does GET("e9b74480ca5f07d9a30654ee0dbf96f3b423531e") will get your IP

as for the details of how the DHT works: each node has an ID (hash of IP, basically). Each node has neighbors. If I want to get a key K, I look through my neighbors, and I calculate the hamming weight of XOR(their ID, K), and then I ask the one with the lowest Hamming distance

rinse and repeat until found or nowhere else to look
