"Be excellent to each other and welcoming to newcomers"
-
rbrunner
-
vdo
I was about to share this, wtf?
-
rbrunner
So I was 5 seconds faster :)
-
rbrunner
All the flowers for me
-
vdo
"concealing criminal financial flows and facilitating money laundering" doesn't sound like development to me
-
rbrunner
Yeah, it's a bit strange, only the title mentions that he should be a dev, in the text itself it's not mentioned or detailed further
-
rbrunner
I also wonder why out of all possible people the very first detention worldwide in connection with Tornado Cash should be a dev
-
vdo
because... russians ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
fluffypony
the headline could be misleading or incorrect
-
fluffypony
but also this is about him (allegedly knowingly) profiting from criminal activity
-
fluffypony
Monero doesn't have that problem - I guess you could argue that miners are profiting, but miners have been given explicit protections in some countries
-
gingeropolous
is this txpool gonna clear in < 72 hrs?
-
gingeropolous
oh yeah
-
gingeropolous
it will
-
gingeropolous
10 MB txpool! we're one of the cool kids now
-
garth
Wooo baby look at those full blocks
-
garth
Let's see that beautiful dynamic blocksize in action
-
garth
To be honest I haven't seen the blocksize expand once since we instituted Bulletproofs and cut tx size by 90%
-
garth
I wonder if this tx glut is related to the hardfork somehow, like it's all MineXMR folks withdrawing funds
-
garth
gingeropolous Is 72 hours the window for the limit to increase beyond 300k?
-
garth
16MB and growing
-
nioc
3 blocks 2687876, 7 and 8 were not even close to full
-
nioc
hmmm
-
dEBRUYNE
garth: Could be an exchange resuming withdrawals I suppose
-
dEBRUYNE
or MineXMR making final payout
-
sech1
It's minexmr
-
sech1
"<xnbya> quite a few of the recent TXs have been minexmr payouts btw"
-
garth
Kind of fascinating to watch the biggest pool in Monero have a final payout tx batch
-
garth
Gives you a small window into the mining world as a whole
-
garth
How many blocks does the mempool need to stay full before the max size increases?
-
sech1
it already increased
-
garth
I'm still seeing 300kb blocks
-
selsta
there are definitely still performance issues when the mempool is that full
-
sech1
Median block size limit: 294.93 kB
-
sech1
302000 bytes
-
selsta
starting the daemon took 40s for me
-
sech1
usually it's sitting at 300000 bytes
-
sech1
-
sech1
302042 bytes right now
-
gingeropolous
the size won't move much if no one is paying the premium
-
garth
A number is blocks over 300k now, one 307k one 308k
-
garth
Kind of fun to watch :D
-
garth
gingeropolous love the new mobile site for xmrchain but still wish links were at least a slightly lighter color like gray so that I can see what a link is and what non-link text is
-
merope
gingeropolous they are though, look at the fee/kb. Some big txes in the mempool are paying quite the premium for priority
-
gingeropolous
new mobile site?
-
garth
Yeah it seems it's fitting in my mobile phone screen differently
-
garth
But maybe that was not an intentional change
-
garth
Usually it's quite zoomed out and if I want to see something like the hash rate then I have to pinch to zoom
-
garth
Oh! I realize what happened. I forgot I increased the text size in my mobile browser.
-
hyc
backlog seems to be clearing up
-
hyc
hmm, or not. was down to 322txs, now back up to 1410
-
hyc
and the oldest ones are just getting older, must not have high enough fee
-
wyre
do you recommend me some wiki page for monero?
-
wyre
Mochi101, nothing in particular I was looking for something like bitcoin.it but for monero 🤔
-
moneromooo
I don't think there's anything that's directly editable. There was a wiki on github, but it predictably got abused.
-
Mochi101
Not sure anything like that exists for Monero. You can find a lot of information on getmonero.org under the resources tab though.
-
wyre
I see, thank you anyway =D
-
hyc
or monero.stackexchange
-
wyre
I'll give a check to getmonero.org
-
wyre
it has monero the same scalability problem than bitcoin? 🤔
-
wyre
d/it/
-
moneromooo
Yes... and no.
-
moneromooo
Its transactions are heavier to verify.
-
moneromooo
Its PoW is much heavier to verify.
-
moneromooo
Its block size is unlimited.
-
moneromooo
Its miner subsidy never reaches zero.
-
wyre
hmm, some people argues PoS is better than PoW
-
wyre
but not sure it this is true 🤔
-
moneromooo
Because it does not use much energy.
-
nssy2
PoS is centralization
-
moneromooo
However, it has much worse pathological failure modes.
-
wyre
nssy2, do you think so? I guess PoW is also susceptible to cause centralization
-
wyre
moneromooo, do you recommend me some resource where these possible failures are described?
-
wyre
I'd like to read about the topic
-
moneromooo
No, but such should be readily found with search terms "pow pos".
-
moneromooo
Basically, if you can 51% the network once with PoS, you can 51% it forever.
-
moneromooo
I'm not sure how that translates to a PoS/PoW hybrid though.
-
merope
The main issue with PoS is that it incentivizes the rich to get richer - and if you're not staking all your new coins all the time, you are cutting yourself off
-
merope
The onl way to "enter" the PoS system is if someone else sells you their coins, aka a share of their voting power
-
merope
So coin owners effectively become the gatekeepers of the system
-
merope
PoW is "immune" to that (assuming you're not dependant on asics): anyone with a functional cpu can start mining and earn some coin at any time
-
merope
Not a lot maybe, but they can
-
nioc
and exchanges stake the coins that they are holding in people's accounts and reap the reward themselves with no investment
-
wyre
merope, so I guess that's the point of making PoW immune to asics, right?
-
wyre
I mean of using those specific algorithms
-
wyre
what do you think about Ethereum then?
-
moneromooo
Howl's Moving Castle. Without the cuteness.
-
merope
Indeed: asic-resistance makes it harder to censor miners, because they are effectively indistinguishable from "regular" computer users
-
merope
(Unless you run a mining farm in your basement)
-
merope
Eth's memory-hard algo was a nice try - but as Cryptonight has proven as well, memory-hardness is only a partial solution
-
merope
Their intent to switch to PoS is purely driven by market hype and buzzwords. The fact that the switch has been "just around the corner, no really" for over half a decade shows just how problematic PoS truly is, if you actually care about fairness and true decentralization
-
Mochi101
-
nioc
wen fluffyponypool
-
garth
Wen fork?
-
nioc
The current block height is 2,688,260. Fork height is 2,688,888. 628 blocks to go, happening in approximately 20.93 hours
-
Torr
Holly Monero, nioc is "coin" backwards.
-
Torr
Never noticed it 'til now.
-
great_taste
shocking
-
nioc
it usually takes a while b4 that is noticed
-
great_taste
your secret has been exposed
-
nioc
doxxed 0_o
-
Mochi101
Torr, it took me 23 years hanging out here every day to realize that.
-
Steven_M
Hi All, are the fees going up or down after the new fork?
-
selsta
hi, fees are going up
