The blockchain explorer just requires users to enter their Monero address + view key into the fundraiser form, which is sent to the database. Then a cron job executes the PHP code, which calls the blockchain explorer API.

In comparison, Monero RPC uses more bandwidth (even with a remote node), CPU/RAM, and you would need to create a new view-only wallet per user.

Since this will be open sourced, it means that users could run Bitvendo or just the fundraisers part on shared hosting (as it only requires PHP/SQL/cron), instead of requiring a VPS in order to download Monero RPC.

It's actually free electricity for mining if you think about it. (If you normally use electric heating).
