That definitely posed a threat to the government
-
cockliuser[m]
It's definitely not a crime because it threatens human life
-
cyberdogg[m]
Just want to say “fuk the state”!!
-
cockliuser[m]
cyberdogg[m]: Saying fuck the state isn't going to help anyone. Participate in major human rights protests against the government, worker unions, and self-sufficiency to actually "fuck the state"
-
cyberdogg[m]
Makes me feel good

walraven[m]
<c0w[m]> "crime is whatever the state..." <- They made you a criminal if you didn't wear a surgical mask in a national forest. Like every other totalitarian takeover they'll make you a criminal for anything against the narrative. And in this one your esg score will go down and you'll be subjected to exclusionary measures if you have the wrong views on abortion/tranny's all the way to if you don't dust off the picture of the fuhrer they

cyberdogg[m]
Workers unions? What are you some sort of communist?

Why can't small merchants accept 0 conf transactions
-
cockliuser[m]
It wouldn't be worth it to do a network wide attack to purchase a chicken wing
-
cockliuser[m]
So should small merchants be using zero confirmation transactions
-
geonic
Yes, they should
-
narodnik
gm
-
raas[m]
<cockliuser[m]> "So should small merchants be..." <- For coffee? Sure. I would feel comfortable doing that the bad thing is I don't sell shit.
-
raas[m]
<narodnik> "gm" <- So dark over here... Good night!
-
plowsof11
im not sure if fooling a 0-conf merchant requires a network attack - rather - that you just know the node the merchant is using (with other steps i wont provide a bad explanation for)
-
Siren[m]
<walraven[m]> "They made you a criminal if..." <- Funny because most governments are anti-abortion and anti-LGBT. But yeah people will choose to exclude you if you don't respect their rights or discriminate against them.
-
raas[m]
<plowsof11> "im not sure if fooling a 0-..." <- How easy can be to know the node he's using? You need to literally look to his computer or phone?
-
Siren[m]
<plowsof11> "im not sure if fooling a 0-..." <- How long does the first confirmation take again?
-
Siren[m]
raas[m]: Either by doing that or looking at the network traffic
-
raas[m]
Siren[m]: Quite easy then. Still I feel it will be safe to accept 0 conf for coffee. Not much people will be scanning your traffic for two or three free coffees.
-
Siren[m]
Perhaps that 1 confirmation will happen by the time the coffee is ready?
-
raas[m]
First confirmation should take only like 3 minutes. Usually you'll need to drink fast
-
Siren[m]
I think it's slightly longer now but I might be remembering wrong
-
Siren[m]
Coffee shops take well over 3 mins to serve coffee so it's ok
-
plowsof11
1st confirmation could be 12-17 seconds (lower if the node you broadcast from is using tor and not doing something else i wont badly explain, ofrnxmr knows)
-
plowsof11
sorry, 0conf*
-
plowsof11
merchant thinks : lets make it faster and tell the customer my node
-
Siren[m]
I guess we would start bookmarking nodes of shops and food places if monero was very common
-
plowsof11
sharing the node of our local kebab shop in secret 0conf chats
-
Siren[m]
Local kebab shop node > cake wallet nodes
-
plowsof11
time to first confirmation is now reduced by ~30 seconds (assuming all pools have started updating their block templates (the 0conf transactions / mempool) recent stats analysis by Rucknium gave shed more light on this / pushed them to improving
-
plowsof11
in the case of in purchase payments, i wouldnt be too concerned with 0conf (unless the person buying from you is holding a thinkpad laptop without windows OS on it sending you piconeros over and over and saying ' did you see that?... did you get that one? this one? '
-
plowsof11
merchants could also let people 'pay first' before they make the kebab - and when its done , confirm theyve got 1-3 confirms
-
plowsof11
in person*
-
plowsof11
do not tell / show customer that a zero conf was received until after a minimum of x seconds perhaps to mitigate this 🤔
-
Siren[m]
<plowsof11> "in the case of in purchase..." <- I'd refuse them at that point
-
sech1
relax, no one's going to double spend a kebab
-
DanIsnotthemanBr

ive been trying to double spend to buy kebabs, i have failed - my moneros are gone and i have gained weight

<plowsof11> "sharing the node of our local..." <- Local outgoing-only node?
-
patsavoura[m]
Newbie question. I decided to test monero again and eventually host a node. I did install the monero gui app fpr a quick review before I delve into VMs etc. I did get synchronized and wanted to test the mining feature. Since it allows p2pool I decided to try my luck there and I have left it running for a couple of days now. When I type status in the log window at some point it says "not mining" while the status says mining at a low hash
-
patsavoura[m]
rate. Which is it?
-
patsavoura[m]
I thought it may be due to me not opening any ports since everything runs on the same computer but I wanted to make sure, before opening random ports on my main machine.
-
selsta
patsavoura[m]: p2pool mining uses a separate program
-
selsta
status would only show if you are mining with the daemon built in miner
-
patsavoura[m]
<selsta> "patsavoura: p2pool mining uses a..." <- can i query p2pool from the same machine to see more stats?
-
selsta
sech1: ^
-
patsavoura[m]
and if there is a calculator to see what i shiuld be mining on average?
-
sech1
use "--data-api path/to/api/folder" in command line and you'll get a bunch of auto-updating json files there
-
sech1

-
betcryptocr[m]
Also US politics hahaha
-
hypervillain[m]
betcrypto.cr: so US sports? what feed are you using to verify the results?
-
betcryptocr[m]
hypervillain[m]: We have also European sports
-
betcryptocr[m]
We have a provider to verify the results via API
-
hypervillain[m]
what provider is that, if you don't mind me asking?
-
-
betcryptocr[m]
hypervillain[m]: Hehehe yeah we don't disclose the sportsbook api provider sorry
-
betcryptocr[m]
Since anyone can google the result of the sport is not important with API provider we use
-
hypervillain[m]
betcrypto.cr: so, tell me. how do you plan to treat sharp bettors? the tradfi bookies seem to ban people who actually make a profit
-
betcryptocr[m]
We manage our sportsbook like is supposed to we just take the VIG we don't care if anyone wins a lot
-
hypervillain[m]
so you're an exchange like betfair, not a sportsbook?
-
betcryptocr[m]
hypervillain[m]: We are a sportsbook the sportsbook is supposed to make money with the VIG
-
betcryptocr[m]
The thing is some sportsbook take alot of risk in order to make more money
-
betcryptocr[m]
And the are no happy with only the VIG
-

get this shilling out of here hypervillain betcrypto.cr

-
hypervillain[m]
plowsof: you're right, it's time to cease & desist. but for the record, sportbooks absolutely need to make a profit on bets, betting exchanges make their profits elsewhere. this is elementary stuff, if you find people trying to get you to sign onto a platform where they don't even know this - well, that's suspicious

Oh so it's a technical problem. Cool thanks. I'm not sure what I think about it. I do think it needs to be viewed by community. Be it by donors and/or through a monerokon cinema sesión.
