exCAT
hello all
-
exCAT
I'm having trouble with my XMRig config
-
exCAT
I found out how to choose specific threads to mine on
-
exCAT
but I can't find how to make it keep changing threads so it dosen't stress a single thread at all times
-
merope1
That's the opposite of what you want
-
merope1
And also, there's no harm to the cpu by pinning threads
-
exCAT
I want it to use a single thread, but keep chaning which thread it's using
-
merope1
As lont as there's good cooling, the cpu doesn't really "wear out"
-
merope1
What benefit do you expect from constantly changing this single thread, exactly?
-
exCAT
I found that it helps with thermals
-
exCAT
when I use a single static thread my cpu gets to 75c
-
exCAT
but when it's dynamic I hover around 60
-
merope1
The only reason it (slightly) helps is because it's actually killing the mining performance
-
merope1
75°C is plenty fine
-
merope1
Let your cooler do its job
-
exCAT
so is changing threads not an option in xmrig?
-
k4r4b3y[m]
exCAT: interesting.
-
merope1
It's not, and for good reason
-
exCAT
got it
-
merope1
And as long as you don't exceed the temperature limit of your cpu (typically >95°C for most models), the cpu doesn't care
-
exCAT
I just imagined that stressing a single thread wouldn't be good for the CPU
-
xfedex[m]
Yeah, I imagined that too
-
xfedex[m]
I use a custom script that modifies config.json to change threads randomly every 15 minutes
-
sech1
whhaaat, why?
-
xfedex[m]
sech1, because otherwise vents keep going at full speed even tho i'm mining with 2/4 threads
-
xfedex[m]
when changing threads, they don't go that fast
-
plowsof11
buy a bigger cooler
-
xfedex[m]
on a laptop?
-
plowsof11
oof
-
xfedex[m]
anyway i think it improves CPU health
-
sech1
stable load and good cooling is what improves hardware health
-
sech1
changing load (=thermal spikes) wear out hardware
-
plowsof11
"just" take your laptop apart clean / reapply thermal paste and buy a new fan
-
xfedex[m]
why does the OS usually make each thread switch between CPU cores every 5 seconds or so?
-
xfedex[m]
(not on xmrig, xmrig seems to be locking the thread to a specific core)

Hi, I'm student doing his Thesis on Monero Price Prediction using Machine Learning. I have been looking online for datasets with plenty of features but haven't found anything reliable. If anyone knows of such a dataset, would you mind to share it with me? I would really appreciate it.

get some advice from your lecturer on your thesis

jefazo92: I think there are a couple of papers on that. Have you read those papers?
-
jefazo92[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: If it is updated (up until today's date), it'd be amazing. But if you know of a dataset with a decent time period, that'd be great

Rucknium[m]: The point is that they have their datasets publicly available. I searched yesterday on Google for datasets and only found one with plenty of features but not sure if reliable tho. Other 2 feature sets I found only had data on Open, High and Low, volume and change % values

<Rucknium[m]> "If you want prices, coingecko..." <- Thanks a lot. But is that enough for price prediction? I mean, I have seen that some paper analyse up to 12 or 15 features and don't focus price data exclusively. I'd like to find a dataset with, at least, 10 or more features with which I can make a prediction which is as good as possible

If it's a formal research paper you must read the research papers that already exist. It's one of the first steps
-
Rucknium[m]
Or skim them at least
-
jefazo92[m]
Rucknium[m]: No. Initially I was trying to know what to focus my project on as it was too broad and I wasn't given a specific focused direction. I also got really sick and have been having many job interviews for once I finish my Masters
-
Rucknium[m]
If this is a Master's thesis, you have a ton of work ahead of you. You _must do a comprehensive literature review.
-
jefazo92[m]
Rucknium[m]: Done it already. I have to look specifically for Monero tho. But when I searched for "Blockchain" AND "Machine Learning", the main papers and Thesis that showed up where on Bitcoin and Etherium price predictions. Of those, I have read tons of them as they are plenty and have tons of info.
-
Rucknium[m]
There are several papers that try to do price prediction of Monero. Usually to compare with other coins. I think researchers do it since Monero has a longer price series than most (almost 9 years long now)
-
plowsof11

Rucknium[m]
^ Actually useful machine learning
-
plowsof11
a large enough portion of the monero community doesnt care about price or predictions

I don't know what your skills or field are, but getting data is a routine first step of any statistician/data scientist/machine learner
-
Rucknium[m]
So you should be able to program an API price scraper.

How did you get from cybersecurity to trying to forecast XMR price with machine learning? That makes no sense to me.

That way I don't have to go through the struggle of data acquistion and pre-processing, and just focus on the algorithm development and training. It doesn't have to be a perfect prediction but one that is good enough. I can always describe the limitations in one of the sections

Rucknium[m]: It was one of the projects available
-
jefazo92[m]
I guess as long as you do something technical, they allow you to do it. And I guess there's a way to orient the study towards Cyber depending on how the Thesis is written
-
Rucknium[m]
First, get a dataset of sunspot activity. (If you are familiar with financial research, this will be an amusing suggestion to you.)
-
Rucknium[m]
jefazo92: Here is an interesting research question: Is the XMR/USD exchange rate less correlated with the BTC/USD exchange rate than other major cryptocurrencies?
-
fr33_yourself[m]
IMO, the best explanation for Bitcoin being #1 in marketcap is people believe Bitcoin is serviceable as a Store of Value. They haven't considered the issue of halvings and monopoly without a monopolist.
-
fr33_yourself[m]
They use backward empirical data of Bitcoin's price to justify their belief instead of considering forward looking fundamentals of Bitcoin's protocol
-
Rucknium[m]
fr33_yourself: That doesn't really have anything to do with what I said.

fr33_yourself[m]
I know. My comments were more so toward the other guy. The one wanting to do a statisical analysis
