Any hardware wallet for monero? I heard about ledger wallet and I'm ditching it. I do know that some people are saying not to update, but at this point I ain't taking another chance. I do however use cake wallet, monerujo, and the GUI.
-
defisovereign[m]
xmrlover[m]: I use both Ledger and Trezor with Monero GUI wallet, they both work.
-
xmrlover[m]
defisovereign[m]: Thanks I'm gonna use Trezor instead

<bobbedbort> Quick question. How does Monero's difficulty work? Because going on xmrchain.net, the block hashes are going to be completely random, seemingly not compared to a difficulty. I searched in randomX's documentation for this, but found nothing.
-
bridgerton[m]
<bobbedbort> ah never mind, I found this comment in monero/src/cryptonote_basic/difficulty.h

<bobbedbort> A weird way of going about it, is there any reason as to why this method was chosen?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
1. Leave discord and join matrix or irc
-
sech1
block hashes are random, block PoW hashes have a lot 0's in the end
-
sech1
you can see it there
-
ofrnxmr[m]
:D i forgot sech as here
-
sech1
This method was chosen because it's mathematically correct, lol
-
bridgerton[m]
<bobbedbort> No I was just wondering because with Bitcoin the block hashes are something like... (full message at <

Monero has block hash and PoW hash, they are different things
-
sech1
"With Bitcoin afaik you just do a simple hash < difficulty" No, it's hash < target
-
sech1
and target depends on difficulty, same as in Monero
-
sech1
In Monero, target = 2^256 / difficulty

bridgerton[m]
<bobbedbort> aah alright I got it, thanks it was just me being dumb

This is my favorite theory about why XMR will win. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
-
-
scragglez[m]
louis.saberhagen: I agree it should help monero's case alot
-
scragglez[m]
esp in actual currency use case
-
louissignet[m]
It's an obscure critique of Bitcoin, yet my favorite one.
-
hyc
yes, many people have already written on the fact that tail emission will reach equilibrium
-
hyc
IMO there's no reason to expect that the number of coins lost will behave as a fluid
-
hyc
but whatever...
-
ceetee[m]
Being a good currency is not about winning, its about persisting. Having a stable supply certainly helps, but its just one of the many things monero does right?
-
ceetee[m]
s/?/./
-
louissignet[m]
<hyc> "yes, many people have already..." <- Yeah, first saw it referenced on Monerotopia Peter Todd talk. However the obscure part is the Bitcoin critique that the "circulating supply is going to zero due to a never non-zero rate of lost coins"
-
louissignet[m]
Short term people never see a problem with this due to obvious appreciation of the currency, but they don't take into consideration that a future, effective price discovery in the market needs a healthy liquid circulating supply
-
louissignet[m]
s/a future, effective//
-
hyc
nobody can use an endlessly deflating currency anyway
-
merope
<louissignet[m]> "This is my favorite theory about..." <- You're just mashing together similar words from completely different contexts...
-
louissignet[m]
merope: Aren't we all
-
merope
I hope not
-
hyc
bitcoin is a collectible, not a currency
-
hyc
it'll be like Tiffany lamps
-
hyc
cabbage patch dolls, pet rocks
-
hyc
either it will only ever have interest to a niche, or it will have a popularity boom and bust
-
hyc
because there's nothing you can actually do with it
-
hyc
good *investments*, like stock shares, don't depend on decreasing supply to increase their value
-
hyc
increased adoption requires ample supply. not diminishing supply...
