<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Reddit is wild. How do they even still have users
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You can post porn on reddit, but cant create an acct using tor or a vpn
-
as2333
where would the users go? is there anything worse than reddit?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Twitter has porn and allows tor
-

<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Reddit has strange priorities
-

twatter is worse than reddit?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i dont think so. Most regular people dont use twitter
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Well, they dont use reddit either. But i mean, twitter is like, for old ppl or smthn
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Old ppl that still live at home and want to post pics for the world to see but aren't cool enough for insta

<jeffro256:monero.social> This is basically "binning", which was going to be the decoy selection strategy when Seraphis was the planned consensus upgrade and we had >= 128 ring size to play with
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<jeffro256:monero.social> Koe links some papers which talk about clumping decoys around the true spend versus emulating the real spend age distribution
-
m-relay
<jeffro256:monero.social> If an adversary knows the approximate time of when they think the input was created, then clumping tightly is much better for anonymity. Conversely, if the adversary has no special timing information, then emulating the real spend age distribution is better
-
m-relay
<jeffro256:monero.social> Ring binning would basically combine these two techniques, almost fractal-like: big pattern was real spend age distribution, small pattern was tightly clumped

<norvegan:nope.chat> Question: I generated a subaddress a while ago, but I can't remember from what wallet I generated it. I'm pretty sure I generated it in cake wallet but I can't see it there (probably because I have restored it from seed when switching phones)... is there a way to confirm that the subaddress belongs to my cake wallet?
-
moneromooo
Assuming they do not do anything nonstandard, monero subaddresses are deterministic. If you generate another after wiping existing ones out, the same will be regenerated.
-
moneromooo
So generate as many as you think you might have done before, and compare.

<norvegan:nope.chat> The reason I wanted to know is that I had made a graphic for the subadr. QR code and didn't want to redo the graphic, but I did it anyway now just to be sure...

that post isn't that informative. are they saying the hashes don't match?
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> Yes
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> But no commits have changed ?
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> i am not saying anything
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> i am putting this here just in case there is something going on but at the same time i am too lazy to check myself / i dont have the correct hashes on hand
-
midipoet
the hashes are on getmonero.org, are they not? it's just a process of downloading and then checking each image
-
midipoet
both the Mac OS images verify correctly for me

<monerobull:matrix.org> well
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> if the site is compromised, you can still just swap out the hashes on the site with the hashes of your new, infected download
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> someone who regularly deals with the hashes will probably have them somewhere on hand
-
midipoet
-
midipoet
shows teh hashes were the same on 2nd March (at least for Mac OS GUI images)

there is also the pgp signed .txt file

<monerobull:matrix.org> anyways
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> my whole point was, i didnt think there is a high probability something happened and maybe someone has it on hand and can check real quick because I did not want to go on a treasurehunt for keys and hashes
-

fair

<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The correct hashes will be on git
-

<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> binartfates key is available on git as well

<monero.arbo:matrix.org> I believe I've set setups where the hashes are hosted somewhere else and the download website simply points to them. You can obviously change the link, but it's more obvious
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> we hope! =p
-
plowsof
right after a monero client update, due to caching, people may download a previous version and hashes will not match. No idea what happened here. everything seems fine
-
m-relay
<basses:matrix.org> they would have to compromise github too

<freddi99:matrix.org> time to add hashes somewhere else to have an independent source to cross check?

need the signing keys. i searched for binaryf8's 1 on github & couldn't find it

Hi. I'm new to Monero. I take that downloading the entire blockchain means turning your device into a full node. Can I do this on my everyday PC that I shut off regularly, or should I do it on a device running 24/7? I don't mind syncing. I also have the space (a 2 TB drive).
