<freddi99:matrix.org> just make sure to properly shut down the node when shutting down the pc. a crash or similar could f up the blockchain file, making you redownload the whole thing again
-
m-relay
<andrewjackson:matrix.org> Make sure it's a SSD drive or it will take forever to sync
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> it's a thousand times more convenient to use a pc that's running 24/7 if you can
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> depends
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> you need a power failure resistant filesystem (almost every fs on linux is)
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> once you finish syncing lmdb is put in durability mode so even under crash or power failure it won't corrupt
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> unless OS or hardware fucked up and decided to write over it
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> which is to say, extremely unlikely
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> --db-sync-mode=safe:sync
-
boldsuck
I used db-sync-mode=safe on all nodes. I now resync some with: db-sync-mode=safe fast-block-sync=0
-
boldsuck
On Linux I would recommend creating monerod as a system user & grop and creating a systemd script.

<ofrnxmr:monero.social> May i ask why you use fast-block-sync=0
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> And why you use safe from the beginning
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Only need safe after its synced, and fast-block-sync skips checkpoints, but doesnt change behavior at tip
-
boldsuck
fast-block-sync=0 bc I read yesterday:
monero-project/monero #8836
-
boldsuck
I simply copy and paste my monerod.conf from one server to another. Safe sync from the start doesn't hurt.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Safe performs more writes and is slower
-
boldsuck
OK, now it's too late and I've tortured my SSDs ;-)
-
boldsuck
Blockchain Sync with 2x10G and 256GB RAM took around16-18 hours, ~4 years ago
-
m-relay
<rucknium:monero.social> boldsuck: Without fast sync, syncing the node from zero on a powerful machine will take about a week. It's fine to do it, of course. I did it with one of my nodes.
-
ofrnxmr
It takes about 8hrs here to sync through the checkpoints, and another 8 to sync the next 100k blocks
-
ofrnxmr
s/next 100k/remaining 100k+blocks/

ofrnxmr
rucknium - unless you use cuprate, which takes like 24hrs
-
ofrnxmr
(just poking fun as monerod)

<rucknium:monero.social> :D
-
boldsuck
@rucknium OK, no problem, it's just one server for testing. I have 6 or more other monerods in use.
-
boldsuck
Yeah cuprate is on TODO list
-
boldsuck
@ofrnxmr is librejo.monerodevs.org down 4ever or a temporary pause?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> lmao
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> lemme check (i own librejo)
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> boldsuck should be good
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> test again
-
boldsuck
Yeah is back
-
boldsuck
Sorry for the confusion. I thought ofrnxmr & syntheticbird were the same person.
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> np, how did you come up with him and me being the same person tho?
-
boldsuck
someone wrote somewhere
-
boldsuck
I think kewbit ;-)
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> if kewbit said so that must be true
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> Debian node

m-relay
<aremor:matrix.org> I am deeply depressed anyone would believe anything that person said
-
m-relay
<monero.arbo:matrix.org> me and SyntheticBird are the same person
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> syntheticbird said it
-
m-relay
<321bob321:monero.social> I thought everyone was rotten

<aremor:matrix.org> I’m guessing the con to these is connecting directly from your isp.
