Guess65
when trying to a dry run wallet says Error: Ring size must not be 0 - however file with rings exist
-
Guess65
wonder what can cause it
-
Guess65
/join #security
-
Guess65
ok I will try to simply re create a wallet from the seed
-
Guess65
i presume it was caused by running a daemon with rpc restricted
-
Guess65
re checking
-
Guess65
I am trying transfer and getting an Error: Ring size must not be 0 however user have access to its home and file exist..
-
Guess65
what might be causing it?
-
plowsof
Guess65 are you using latest version of monero-wallet-cli from getmonero.org . if i want to send 0.1 monero to bob. and bob tells me his address is 123BobsAddress. then in the cli i type "transfer 123BobsAddress 0.1"
-
Guess65
yes
-
Guess65
it keeps saying Error: Ring size must not be 0
-
Guess65
ok retrying - i am sending to same wallet sub address
-
Guess65
its just a command syntax is wrong :)
-
Guess65
my command syntax
-
Guess65
Error: Invalid last argument: do_not_relay hmm
-
Guess65
is do not relay still enabled?
-
plowsof
what do you want to test / do. show me the entire command you are entering into the cli , replace the send to address with ADDRESS or something
-
Guess65
I am playing with all possible scenarious to make transfers 100% anon :)
-
plowsof
yes it will be a syntax issue
-
plowsof
do_not_relay is a start up flag command IIRC?
-
Guess65
I simply think how to transfer funds from a to b in a way that b is unlinkable to a
-
Guess65
what so ever
-
moneromooo
How would you know whether something is more or less anon if you're poking around without knowing what you are doing ? I'd just follow best practices and not deviate unless you're sure you undertand the consequences of those deviations.
-
plowsof
./monero-wallet-cli --help | grep relay
-
moneromooo
For best practices, make sure to find more than one corroboration for any you find. Many people are wrong in the internet.
-
Guess65
we can discuss it here
-
moneromooo
Discussion implies knowing how to ask questions. State clearly what you did, what happened, what you expected instead. You're missing the first step.
-
moneromooo
In any case, --do-not-relay is a command line parameter. Your line mentioning it looks suspiciosly like you tried to use it in a transfer command (but again, no clear statement of what you did so I'm guessing).
-
Guess65
reading how monero works, checking code
-
moneromooo
OK. I kinda meant at a lower level...
-
Guess65
yes in transfer command idea was to transfer without relaying :)
-
Guess65
also maybe it is best to simply use something like sweep single every time?
-
Guess65
zero change
-
moneromooo
(unless it got added as a transfer param recently, also possible)
-
moneromooo
sweep_single will not create "real" change, but will also send all your output. If you're paying yourself, this is ok.
-
moneromooo
Note that there's no settled best practices about churning. It might help, be neutral, or hinder, depending on the circumstanes.
-
Guess65
surely there is one size fit all best practise?
-
moneromooo
You're new at life, aren't you ? :)
-
moneromooo
Or older and adept at sarcasm :D
-
moneromooo
There's seldom a one size fits all for problems worth solving.
-
moneromooo
One size fits most is more common, but dangerous when you want to avoid privacy leaks while experimenting.
-
moneromooo
Sorry if this read a bit curt but it is very easy to fuck things up without realizing in security/privacy. Happens to me and I've been around for ages.
-
Guess65
-
Guess65
monero seems to be fairly complicated when it comes to understanding it 100%
-
Guess65
maybe some animated video on the subject could help. to visualise it all
-
Guess65
is there some math proof that under certain conditions transfer from a to b is 100% unlinkable?
-
m-relay
<matrixuser2175:matrix.org> is there a reason to use retroswap vs cake or any other noncustodial transfers over tor?
-
m-relay
<matrixuser2175:matrix.org> *retoswap
-
moneromooo
Decentralization ?
-
Guess65
when sweep all is used - there is zero change?
-
Guess65
was looking into sweep single too yet to work :)
-
Guess65
as to privacy open shared privacy is stronger
-
moneromooo
There is zero change. It gets sent to a random address, which is exceedingly unlikely to be yousr.
-
moneromooo
That is, a second output of amout 0 is created and "lost". So the tx looks "normal" to an outsier.
-
Guess65
if user sweeps multiple sub addresses - and fee is a bit lower at the end wont change be send back to that address?
-
Guess65
very new to monero so yes many questions
-
Guess65
it seems that is it better to use sweep single yet to see how to make it work. send one single output
-
Guess65
it needs at very least index the input? the sweep single command
-
Guess65
Error: usage: sweep_single [<priority>] [<ring_size>] [outputs=<N>] <key_image> <address> [<payment_id (obsolete)> sweep_single key image address can work? yet to dig the key image out
-
m-relay
<alexandre:uii.pt> Hmm, I'm getting a bunch of "ZMQReader disconnected from ..." on p2pool with gupax, unstable connection?
-
ruidx
`Guess65 | if user sweeps multiple sub addresses - and fee is a bit lower at the end wont change` <- you first build tx, it calculates it size and gives you fee amount, then you broadcast transaction to the network, already built tx can't change it's fee
-
ruidx
actually, if you don't relay it instantly, but under the hood it's how it works, fee is paid by transaction size in bytes, that's the point
-
Guess65
ok ty

<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Benefit of doubt was given to quantum, leading to him ignoring me (and now i don't have to help him). Now getting himself on mooo's ignore list, and also ignoring 17lifers, means quantum has lost the help of 3 people and is still running in circles weeks later

<sbt:nope.chat> No such thing on matrix.

<ravfx:xmr.mx> It work but the reply of ignored messages show differently depending of the client
-
m-relay
<eddie:oblak.be> But I think you would ignore the whole IRC bridge
-

<ravfx:xmr.mx> yes, actually, the irc bridge here don't do a 1:1 mapping
-
m-relay
<sbt:nope.chat> Well, I mean for IRC. Yeah, ignoring the whole bridge is moot.
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> so yes, it will ignore whole irc if you block it from matrix

-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> you mean, the fact that you can't subsribe to a home server?
-
m-relay
<ravfx:xmr.mx> you have to use a client for adult, subscribe, then you can login with element x
