bootstrap requires javascript for its navbar collapse and dropdown menus to work :)

Cindy
i actually learnt that EU's legislation not only bans "anonymity-enhancing coins", it also allows the EU to IP block decentralized exchanges
-
Cindy
i wonder how they'll block haveno
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> we call it the EUSSR
-
Cindy
also they target crowdfunding services
-
Cindy
(basically like kuno or gofundme)
-
Cindy
especially crowdfunding services that accept cryptocurrencies :P
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> well, is it surprising from a bunch of countries that treat their inhabitants as terrorists? :P
-
Cindy
-
Cindy
i don't know where kuno is hosted but like
-
Cindy
if they're hosted in the EU, they better move before they get seized in 2027 lol
-
Cindy
helene: not surprised, EU sucks
-
br-m
<17lifers:mikuplushfarm.ovh> Cindy: pools are next

br-m
<17lifers:mikuplushfarm.ovh> +1 happi
-
midipoet
> it also allows the EU to IP block decentralized exchanges
-
midipoet
can you reference where you think AMLR allows that?
-
midipoet
AMLR does seem to cover crowdfunding platforms (gofundme, etc) and crowdfunding intermediaries (kuno, etc). << it is not clear whether the CCS is an obliged entity. this was raised as a potential threat sometime ago.
-
midipoet
Cindy: ^^
-
Cindy
midipoet: maybe i misread :P
-
midipoet
for anyone interested in the crowdfunding bits, it starts in Recitals 16 and 17, and then into Articles 2 (definitions) and 3 (obliged entities), and further
-
Cindy
should getmonero.org be hosted outside of EU?
-
midipoet
it wouldn't ultimately matter, as it "serves" EU based persons/entities.
-
midipoet
i suppose we could restrict all EU based entities from engaging. that might work as a short term measure
-
Cindy
oh i see
-
Cindy
so we could just ban someone if we suspect that they're from the EU
-
midipoet
Article 19 (due diligence measures) are probably the most problematic for CCS (aside from the reporting obligations).
-
midipoet
> so we could just ban someone if we suspect that they're from the EU
-
midipoet
yes - but you'd have to ban the proposer and the funder
-
midipoet
so no donations from Europe either
-
midipoet
honestly though - i don't think the AMLR is gonna come after the CCS
-
midipoet
they have other things to be worrying about
-
midipoet
^^ that's my hot take on the matter
-
Cindy
midipoet: what about kuno?

br-m
-
Cindy_
you can detect if a XMR miner is running in a process even if it's heavily obfuscated
-
Cindy_
by checking if the floating-point rounding mode changes a lot
-
Cindy_
(of course, processes can emulate floating-point to prevent being detected like this, but they'll lose out on 85%+ of hashrate

i'm glad they designed RandomX to be easily detectable

helene: maybe like use transmission
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> @aillia:matrix.org: i don't see the link here, people trust distros to build secure environments
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> transmission gets their official builds and packages hacked, not much better :P
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> (also supports less features overall nowadays)
-
Cindy_
i use it because it's easier to use as a daemon
-
Cindy_
i just use a client that connects to it over a RPC API
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i use qbittorrent with the built-in web ui myself, and I give it a SOCKS5 proxy for all connections (for bad technical reasons)
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i used to use transmission... more than a decade ago?
-
Cindy_
i just use wireguard :P
-
Cindy_
SOCKS5 sucks
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Socks5 are useful if you want to route your torrent to another "vpn"
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Other than that how do you do, VM?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Because other peer are all on some other variable port so you can't make a rule in the router (that dst-port = that gateway)
-
Cindy_
yeah, but it's not a good proxy protocol
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> No for sure it
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> Cindy_: yeah i would but i get mullvad over tailscale for convenience, i should get another subscription just for that lol since it doesn't matter all that much, it's just to not get funny government letters
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> it's arkaic but it's like the best proxy protocol
-
Cindy_
why do you use tailscale
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> because hand-managed wireguard is cool but annoying after some time, and tailscale's DERPs are useful when you need to bypass weird ISP blocks in some places
-
Cindy_
you can use wireguard over I2P
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> but why?
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> Overkill++
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i could also use Tor for everything... but why?
-
Cindy_
anything to avoid a SaaS
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> you can self-host it if you wish; or use the hand-managed wireguard
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> I2p sometimes don't have clearnet endpoint
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i'm just not interested in doing that anymore especially since it's just to like... access my NAS sometimes, and to have basically no administration to do on any of those machines
-
Cindy_
I2P can anonymize users of your wireguard VPN
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> and wireguard doesn't give you the convenient ACLs eh :p
-
Cindy_
and i guess i use it to host a site in a homeserver, but keep the IP of my homeserver a secret from my VPS :P
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i2p is pretty awful to run on anything that isn't x86_64
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> even the C version?
-
Cindy_
the C++*
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> the C++ version even more so
-
Cindy_
i use I2P because it can route over UDP packets
-
Cindy_
unlike tor
-
Cindy_
which is important for wireguard
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> i mean i can see the point, i just don't need that :p
-
Cindy_
fair :P
-
br-m
<helene:unredacted.org> consider also that i share my tailscale tailnet with my wife :p
-
Cindy_
i like to anonymize my homeserver
